SUBJECT: Consideration and possible action to authorize the Director of Public Works, or designee, to install red curb parking restrictions fronting 16225 Clark Avenue (C.E. #22-02).

DATE: February 28, 2022

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On February 15, 2022, the Public Safety Commission considered and subsequently recommended to the City Council the installation of red curb parking restrictions pursuant to Bellflower Municipal Code (“BMC”) Chapter 10.04. This action would approve and authorize the installation of red curb parking resrictions fronting 16225 Clark Avenue.

RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL

1) Authorize the Director of Public Works, or designee, to install red curb parking restrictions fronting 16225 Clark Avenue; or

2) Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to this item.

FISCAL IMPACT

The estimated cost to install the red curb parking restrictions is $100.00. The required funds are contained within the current fiscal year budget.

DISCUSSION

The City recently received a request to install red curb parking restrictions at 16225 Clark Avenue. The basis of the request is to improve line of sight for vehicles entering Clark Avenue off of Olive Street due to vehicles parked along the west side of Clark Avenue. In response to this request, the City Engineer conducted a line of sight assessment. The assessment determined that vehicles parked at the northwest corner do obstruct the view of oncoming traffic. Hence to enhance safety, staff recommends the installation of twenty (20) feet of red curb parking restrictions. Twenty feet represents one (1) parking space. The proposed red curb parking restrictions are illustrated on the attached aerial photograph.
