EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On May 17, 2022, the Public Safety Commission considered and subsequently recommended to the City Council the installation of one on-street disabled parking space (blue curb) pursuant to Bellflower Municipal Code (“BMC”) Chapter 10.04. This action would approve and authorize the installation of one on-street disabled parking space (blue curb) in front of 10402 Nichols Street.

FISCAL IMPACT
The estimated cost to install the on-street disabled parking space (blue curb) is $100.00. The required funds are contained within the current fiscal year budget.

The City recently received a request from the homeowner at 10402 Nichols Street to install one on-street disabled parking space (blue curb). Americans with Disability Act (ADA) requirements. In addition, although the homeowner does have an attached garage; it leads to a sunken den with steps, a portion of the home the resident does not use. Due to the limited mobility of the homeowner, and the aforementioned CVC and ADA requirements, the shortest accessible path of travel is on-street parking. Hence to provide a more accessible path of travel the installation of a (20’) long on-street disabled parking space is recommended. The location of the proposed blue curb is illustrated on the attached aerial photograph.
On May 3, 2022, the City provided notice to area residents of this request and that this matter would be brought before the Public Safety Commission at its May 17, 2022, meeting. To date the City has received no response to the notification.
