SUBJECT: Consideration and possible action to authorize the Director of Public Works, or designee, to install red curb parking restrictions at 17220 – 17228 Downey Avenue (C.E. #22-15).

DATE: November 14, 2022

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On October 18, 2022, the Public Safety Commission considered and subsequently recommended to the City Council the installation of red curb parking restrictions pursuant to Bellflower Municipal Code (“BMC”) Chapter 10.04. This action would approve and authorize the installation of red curb parking restrictions fronting 17220 – 17228 Downey Avenue.

RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL

1) Authorize the Director of Public Works, or designee, to install red curb parking restrictions at 17220 - 17228 Downey Avenue; or

2) Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to this item.

FISCAL IMPACT

The estimated cost to install the red curb parking restrictions is $200.00. The required funds are contained within the current fiscal year budget.

DISCUSSION

The City recently received a request from City staff to install red curb parking restrictions at 17220 – 17228 Downey Avenue. In response to this request, the City is proposing to install three (3) sections of red curb parking restrictions for a total of approximately two-hundred and eighty feet (280’). DISCUSSION – Continued

On October 4, 2022, the City provided notice to area residents of this request and that this matter would be brought before the Public Safety Commission at its October 18, 2022, meeting. To date, the City has received no response to the notifications.

There is not sufficient roadway width to provide both a travel lane for vehicles and a parking lane. Hence to ensure a safe and standard travel lane width, the restriction of on-street parking is recommended.
