FROM:Susan Crumly,Human Resources and Risk Manager
SUBJECT:Consideration and possible action to adopt Resolution No.22-68 – A Resolution adjusting the salary table for the ranges impacted by the January 1, 2023 minimum wage increase.

DATE:November 28, 2022

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The proposed resolution authorizes an adjustment to the current salary range table and movement of Intern II position from Range 11050 to Range 05550 to implement the new minimum wage.

RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL
1)Adopt Resolution No.22-68;and
2)Authorize the City Manager to implement the proposed changes to the salary range table;and
3)Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to these items.

BACKGROUND
On January 1, 2023, the minimum wage will increase from $15.00 to $15.50 per hour.

The City currently has three salary ranges that are tied to minimum wage. Range 05450 is a single step range that is equal to the current minimum wage and increases automatically when minimum wage is increased. Range 05550 is a five-step range with step A equal to minimum wage. The resolution will adjust Steps B to E to ensure that the next step is approximately 5% above the previous step. The Intern II position at Range 11050 has two steps (A and B) that equal the minimum range. However, the rates of the remaining steps are lower than Range 05550. The resolution will remove Range 11050 and place the Intern II position at Range 05550.

FISCAL IMPACT
The estimated total annual payroll cost increase including taxes is about $31,000.
