Staff Report – Installation of Red Curb Parking Restrictions at 10145 Walnut Street fronting Woodruff Avenue
December 12, 2022
DISCUSSION – Continued
In response to the request, the City Engineer conducted a sight visit and a line of sight assessment. The assessment determined that vehicles parked on Woodruff Avenue just north of Walnut Street do obstruct the view of oncoming traffic. Hence, to enhance safety while minimizing the loss of on-street parking, staff recommended the installation of twenty-five (25) feet of red curb parking restrictions on Woodruff Avenue which would have resulted in the elimination of one on-street parking space. The proposed red curb parking restrictions are illustrated on the attached aerial photograph.
On April 5, 2022, the City Engineer provided notice to area residents of this request and that this matter would be brought before the Public Safety Commission at its April 19, 2022, meeting. Prior to the Commission meeting, the City received two responses to the notification - one in support of the red curb restrictions and one opposing the restrictions.
The City Engineer presented an overview of the staff report at the April 19, 2022 Public Safety Commission Meeting and answered questions from the Commission. There were no comments made by members of the public in attendance. Following discussion among the Commission, a motion was made to approve the recommended installation of red curb parking restrictions; however, the motion failed due to lack of a second.
At the request of Mayor Dunton, Public Works staff has brought this item before City Council for discussion and possible consideration.
