EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This action would approve and authorize the installation of red curb parking restrictions at the northeast corner of Palo Verde Avenue and Artesia Boulevard pursuant to Bellflower Municipal Code (“BMC”) Chapter 10.04.
RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL
1) Authorize the Director of Public Works, or designee, to install red curb parking restrictions at the northeast corner of Palo Verde Avenue and Artesia Boulevard; or
2) Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to this item.
FISCAL IMPACT
The estimated cost to install the red curb parking restrictions is $100.00. The required funds are contained within the current fiscal year budget.
DISCUSSION
The City recently received a request to install red curb parking restrictions on Palo Verde Avenue and Artesia Boulevard. Specifically, the request was to install red curb parking restrictions on the east side of Palo Verde Avenue just north of Artesia Boulevard. Currently vehicles parked within the proposed red zone obstruct vehicles turning right onto Palo Verde Avenue from Artesia Boulevard. In response to this request the City is proposing to install twenty feet (20’) of red curb parking restrictions. The proposed change is illustrated on the attached aerial photograph. -1-

DISCUSSION – Continued
On May 2, 2023, the City provided notice to area residents of this request and that this matter would be brought before the Public Safety Commission at its May 16, 2023, meeting. To date, the City has received no response to the notifications.
The City Engineer presented an overview of the staff report at the May 16, 2023 Public Safety Commission Meeting and answered questions from the Commission. There were no comments made by members of the public in attendance. Following discussion among the Commission, a motion was made to approve the recommended installation of red curb parking restrictions; however, the motion failed due to lack of a second.
Public Works staff feels that this is a valid request and therefore has brought this item before the City Council for discussion and possible consideration.
