DISCUSSION
The City recently received a request from a business located in the 8800 block of Artesia Boulevard requesting the removal of the 20-minute time-based parking restrictions on the north side of Artesia Boulevard in an effort to establish more unrestricted on-street parking near their business. As part of the right-of-way improvements for the new Woodsprings Suites at 8827 Artesia Boulevard, a section of the curb was painted red thus eliminating a portion of on -street parking.
1 Staff Report – Removal of Time-Based Parking Restrictions (green curb) on the north side of Artesia Boulevard just west of Lakewood Boulevard July 10, 2023
DISCUSSION – Continued
The Public Safety Director spoke with the business owner at 17251 Lakewood Boulevard regarding the request to remove the 20-minute time-based parking restrictions. The business owner has no objections to the removal request. Hence to provide additional un-restricted on-street parking, staff recommends the removal of the existing 20-minute time-based parking restrictions (green curb) on the north side of Artesia Boulevard, just west of Lakewood Boulevard . The locations of the proposed changes are illustrated on the attached aerial photograph (i.e., 2 segments of green curb: 65 feet and 42 feet totaling 107 feet, which translates to a gain of approximately 5 on-street parking spaces).
On June 7, 2023, the Public Works Director provided notice to area residents of this request and that this matter would be brought before the Public Safety Commission at its June 20, 2023, meeting. To date the City has received no response to the notifications.
