Staff Report – Amendment to Public Works Contract for Specifications No. 20/21-03 September 25, 2023
DISCUSSION
On September 26, 2022, the City awarded a contract to LCR Earthwork to reconstruct the City-owned parking lot located at 9818 Artesia Boulevard as part of the City’s efforts to improve City-owned public parking lots. On February 13, 2023, the City approved Amendment No. 1 to include additional work for the recently acquired property adjacent to the City-owned parking lot. On March 27, 2023, the City approved Amendment No. 2 to include additional excavation and replacement of the poor-quality soil with porous base material. The additional concrete work under Amendment No. 3 was requested by City staff to fill in a void between the concrete curb and the parking lot that otherwise would have resulted in a section of dirt.
The total additional cost of $3,500 represents an increase of 0.74% from the current contract amount. Following the $9,065 credit for Bid Item No. 14, the proposed final amendment would result in a total contract amount of $469,285, which exceeds the City Manager’s signature authority. Consequently, Public Works recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute Amendment No. 3 with LCR Earthwork for the Project.
