DATE: December 11, 2023
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On November 21, 2023, the Public Safety Commission considered and subsequently recommended to the City Council the installation of red curb parking restrictions pursuant to Bellflower Municipal Code (“BMC”) Chapter 10.04. This action would approve the installation of red curb parking restrictions on Ramona Street east of Bellflower Boulevard.
RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL
1) Authorize the Director of Public Works, or designee, to install red curb parking restrictions on Ramona Street east of Bellflower Boulevard; or
2) Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to this item.
FISCAL IMPACT
The estimated cost for the installation of the red curb parking restrictions listed above is $200. Funds are budgeted in Account No. 010-43170-3100 (Street Maintenance Traffic Paint).
DISCUSSION
The City recently received a request for the installation of red curb parking restrictions on Ramona Street east of Bellflower Boulevard. Currently vehicles parked in the proposed red zone impede the line of sight for vehicles exiting the adjacent parking lot onto Ramona Street. The City Engineer conducted a line-of-sight assessment and concluded that parked vehicles do impact visibility. Hence to enhance safety the City is proposing to install an additional forty (40) feet of red curb parking restrictions. The location of the proposed change is illustrated in the attached aerial photograph. -1-
