14-F
TO:Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council
ATTENTION:Ryan Smoot, City Manager
FROM:Len Gorecki, Assistant City Manager/Director of Public Works Jerry Stock, City Engineer
SUBJECT:Consideration and possible action to authorize the Director of Public Works, or designee, to install red curb parking restrictions on Ryon Avenue at Harvard Street (C.E.# 24-08).

DATE:June 10, 2024

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This action would approve and authorize the installation of red curb parking restrictions on Ryon Avenue at Harvard Street pursuant to Bellflower Municipal Code (“BMC”) Chapter 10.04.

RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL
1) Authorize the Director of Public Works, or designee, to install red curb parking restrictions on Ryon Avenue at Harvard Street; or
2) Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to this item.

FISCAL IMPACT
The estimated cost to install the red curb parking restrictions is $300.00. Funds are budgeted in Account No. 010-43170-3100 (Street Maintenance Traffic Paint).

DISCUSSION
The City recently received a request to install red curb parking restrictions where Ryon Avenue meets Harvard Street. Specifically, the request was for red curb parking restrictions on both sides of the street. Currently vehicles parked in those areas impede 2-way traffic due to the narrow character of the roadways. On the south side, staff proposes to install approximately eight (8) feet of red curb parking restrictions to provide a wider turn area for vehicles traveling south on Ryon Avenue turning onto Harvard Street. On the north side of the street, staff proposes to install approximately forty (40) feet of red curb parking restrictions. Hence to enhance vehicle safety and improve line of sight, staff requests that the installation of red curb parking restrictions on both sides of the street be recommended for approval.
