SUBJECT: Consideration and possible action to contribute $5,000 in Cannabis Education Funding for the 202 4 Christmas with a Cop Event to take place on December 19, 2024.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Staff is recommending using Cannabis Education Funding for the 202 4 Christmas with a Cop event – scheduled for December 19, 2024. The funding will be utilized to acquire gift cards and/or other appropriate gifts for underprivileged children in the community.
Any marketing of the event would include a drug prevention message targeted to vulnerable youth at risk of illicit drug use.
RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL
1) Approve $5,000 in Cannabis Education Funding for the 2024 Christmas with a Cop event; or
2) Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to this item.
FISCAL IMPACT
$5,000 in Cannabis Education Funding (Account No. 037-43036-2510).
DISCUSSION
Public Safety is hosting for the fifth year our Christmas with a Cop event which supports underprivileged children in the community. We work with Caring Connections to select fifteen Bellflower Unified School District students for participation in the event. Deputies from our SAO team will be on hand to distribute the gifts to the students.
With funding coming from cannabis education, various “drug free” educational material will be included in the gifts provided to the students. 1: BELLF
