COKE AVENUE PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS
1 5-YEAR CIP PROGRAM
Pedestrian Right-of-Way Improvements (51611)
As part of the City’s CIP Program, the Coke Avenue project was approved by City Council during FY 25-27 budgeting sessions FY 25-26 - $150,000 for design
FY 26-27 - $400,000 for construction
Strategic Plan Objectives
1. Enhance Public Safety – Proposed improvements will allow pedestrians to safely walk along Coke Ave, establish ADA compliant sidewalks and curb ramps and connect adjacent street sidewalks to Coke Ave.
4. Improve Quality of Life & Visual Appeal in the City – The project will clean up the west side of Coke Ave. adjacent to LADWP/nursery fence line and establish defined curb lines curb ramps at all intersections, particularly at Coke/Rose.
2 COKE AVENUE DESIGN PARAMETERS
City partnered with Willdan Engineering to determine the best suited design for the project.
Due to varying properties lines, tree and utility conflicts along the east side, the most viable path for sidewalk installation is the west side adjacent to LADWP/nursery boundary.
Willdan has presented 2 design options for consideration Option 1 – Typical street design with a single travel lane in each direction (north & south) where sidewalk and appropriate curb & gutter will be constructed on the west side and each intersection would include ADA-compliant pedestrian curb ramps.
Option 2 – To enhance pedestrian crossings at each intersection, this option would convert Coke Ave. into a one-way road with vehicle direction moving from the north (Artesia Blvd.) to south (Rose St.). This would allow for pedestrian “bulb-outs” to be constructed at each intersection.
3 4
OPTION 1 – TWO-WAY TRAFFIC
5 6
ONE
WAY
OPTION 2 – ONE-WAY w/ BULB-OUT
7 8
STREET VIEW – SOUTH OF ROSE STREET
9 RECOMMENDED ACTION
Approve one of the two design options for the installation of sidewalk on Coke Avenue between Artesia Boulevard and the south City Limit; or
Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to this item.
