EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
At its meeting of January 12, 2026, the City Council directed the City Manager to provide a status update on the Simms Park Stormwater Capture Project including current design status, update on additional funding requests and provide a preliminary timeline for construction activities. Funding applications are progressing, and the Public Works and Parks and Recreation Departments will present an update to the City Council for discussion and possible further direction.
RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL
1) Receive and file staff update; or
2) Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to this item.
FISCAL IMPACT
None at this time.
DISCUSSION
The Simms Park Stormwater Capture Project represents an opportunity for the City to contribute to the regional water quality efforts of southeast L.A. County and will also provide for significant modernization of the Simms Park sports field area. Final design of the project is near completion, but a funding gap has been identified as it relates to construction costs and applications have been submitted to the regional Watershed Steering Committee and to the L.A. County Measure A Parks Grant program for additional funding to fill the gap. Decisions on those applications are expected to be forthcoming. Staff’s presentation will provide an update on these funding requests and also provide a preliminary timeline for project construction activities for discussion by the City Council.
