SUBJECT: Consideration and possible action to receive and file submission of fiscal year 2025 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (“JAG”) funding for law enforcement services.
DATE: March 23, 2026
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Each year the City applies for grant funding through the JAG program which assists with supporting our law enforcement services. Our portion of JAG funding for fiscal year 2025 is $29,865. As part of the grant requirements, public review by the City’s governing body is required. Funding for fiscal year 2025 has been substantially delayed and is normally released in August of each year.
RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL
1) Receive and file the JAG program submission for funding; or
2) Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to this item.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding provided by the grant is $29,865.
DISCUSSION
The City has been applying for and receiving yearly JAG program funding for over 10 years to support its law enforcement services. Funding for FY 2025 has been delayed for months and is now being opened for application submissions. Grant rules require the governing body of each jurisdiction who is receiving JAG funds to review and make available for the public to review the application for funding. The City is eligible for a predetermined allocation amount of $29,865 which will be used for two grant deputy positions the City has contracted with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for.
It is recommended the City Council receive and file this report.
