SUBJECT: Consideration and possible action to approve the reappointment of Chamber of Commerce’s nominee Larry Wehage to the Southeast Los Angeles County Workforce Development Board
(SELACO WDB) for the term ending June 2028.

RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL
1) Approve the reappointment of Chamber of Commerce’s nominee Larry Wehage to the SELACO WDB for the term ending June 2028; or
2) Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to this item.
FISCAL IMPACT
Private Sector Directors receive $75 for each meeting of the Policy Board attended, up to a maximum of $75 per month per Resolution No. 03 -14 adopted April 14, 2013. Funds are budgeted in Account No. 010-41210-1000.
BACKGROUND
Each participating city has two Private Sector Directors on the Southeast Los Angeles County Workforce Development Board (SELACO WDB), which serve staggered, two-year terms. WDB Private Sector Directors meet bi-monthly on the third Tuesday of the month at 12:00 noon, location varies, (SELACO WDB Offices are located at 10900 East 183rd Street, Suite 350, Cerritos). Private Sector Directors must be nominated by local business organizations and business trade associations (e.g., the Chamber of Commerce), and must be representatives of business in the local area who:
1) are owners of businesses, chief executives or operating officers of businesses, and other business executives or employers with optimum policy -making or hiring authority; and
2) represent businesses with employment opportunities that reflect the employment opportunities of the local area.
Bellflower’s current representatives are Jennifer Beech and Larry Wehage. The Directors of the Chamber of Commerce have requested that Larry Wehage be reappointed to serve as Bellflower’s Private Sector Director on the SELACO WDB for the term ending June 2028 (correspondence attached).
