SUBJECT: Consideration and possible action to approve Mayor Santa Ines’s appointment of Dan Buffington to the Bellflower Unified School District’s Citizens’ Task Force for the 2026-2027 School Year.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Bellflower Unified School District’s (BUSD) Elementary Education Department oversees and coordinates PK-6th grade programs including curriculum, instruction, intervention, GATE enrichment, Band and Music, and after school programs. BUSD’s Citizens’ Task Force is a committee comprised of parents, community organizations and board representatives. The committee provides community input into the instructional program of the district. Members of the committee are appointed by board members, nominated by school principals and/or authorized community organizations, approved by the Board of Education, and serve as members for a year. A representative is selected by the Mayor annually to serve on this Task Force.
Robert Wilson was the City’s representative on the BUSD’s Citizens’ Task Force from 2013 – 2026; however, he is no longer interested in continuing to serve on the Task Force.
Therefore, Mayor Santa Ines has appointed Dan Buffington to serve in this capacity for the 2026-2027 School Year.
RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL
1) Approve Mayor Santa Ines’s appointment of Dan Buffington to the Bellflower Unified School District’s Citizens’ Task Force for the 2026-2027 School Year; or 2) Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to this item.
