No to the approval of two pot stores. But you don’t care as not in your neighborhood. Just interested in the $36,000 fees. Obviously since why do you need three on top of each other. Even the staff said that few operations in other cities. In last election asked district two candidate Jordan for position on pot stores but never received a response.
So how is this helping the City of Belmont?

Dear Belmont City Council.
I hope you're doing well.
I’m Martta Rajamaki, a 11th grader in San Mateo County, and with Silicon Valley Youth Climate Action (SVYCA), a youthled nonprofit working in local climate policy and education.
I hope you're doing well. We appreciate all the work that has gone into evaluating the proposed cannabis retail businesses in Belmont. As the City moves forward with these approvals, we wanted to ask whether any consideration has been given
beyond the financial and economic impacts—specifically, from a social and environmental perspective.
Given the locations of these businesses, are there any
anticipated effects on the surrounding community, such as proximity to schools, parks, or the mall? Have there been discussions on how this could influence youth engagement, pedestrian traffic, or general neighborhood dynamics?
Additionally, cannabis cultivation and distribution have significant carbon footprints due to energy-intensive indoor growing operations and transportation emissions. Has the City considered potential CO2 impacts from these businesses, and are there any sustainability measures in place to mitigate them?
We’d love the opportunity to better understand the City's thought process on these factors and are happy to meet at any point, even after the Council likely approves the project.
Please let us know if there’s a time that works for you.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Best,
Martta Rajamaki

RE: Cannabis Stores in Belmont 2/11/2025
City of Belmont,
I urge you, please NOT to allow cannabis stores in Belmont. ·Marijuana is a schedule 1 drug still illegal federally ·Marijuana addiction is more likely now as the THC levels have increased dramatically
·THC in Marijuana alters functioning of new memories, impairs balance, posture, coordination and reaction time which causes impairment in driving autos and increases auto accidents.
·Whether a euphoric ‘high’ or ‘stoned’ well-being that people want for emotional pain, it also can cause altered consciousness, sensation & perception of time & space, impaired working memory and memory encoding, impaired motor functioning ·At higher doses distorted body image, auditory and visual illusions, pseudohallucinations, ataxia, dissociative states, acute psychosis and there is more. ·Even higher doses can cause confusion, increased anxiety, panic, suspicion and paranoid thinking & agitation
·30% of all users show some addictive symptoms, teens are the most venerable to become addicted.
·Synthetic Cannabinoids are being manufactured with unpredictable symptoms ·Marijuana and pregnancy is not good with increased risk of low birth rate, brain and behavioral problems in babies, ADD, memory and problem solving hindered, stillbirth. ·Negatively alters the growth of our young people’s brains. It decreases job performance.
·Increase emergency department visits
·New studies show that babies have CBD in their urine from second hand marijuana smoke
·Elton John has been sober since 1990 — and he thinks a recent policy shift might lead more people down the path to addiction. (Gateway Drug) ·The list goes on and on for negatives in use of Marijuana with long-term effects, dental effects, mental effects, psychiatric effects, psychotic disorders.
There is so much more negative information, why would you want our residents to have one in our beautiful city?
There are some medical uses for marijuana and yes it does help some people, Belmont Council should not vote to allow a store in its city.
Even though tax money and a new van for the recreation department is alluring, it is not right for the people of Belmont. There are other places to buy their marijuana, we should not have it sold in our city.
Find the answer in trimming the budget and spending judiciously instead of bringing in negative habits.
Shops are going out of business. Here are some business excerpts from an article from Cannabis Business Times by Tony Lange; August 14, 2024
“The cannabis industry is under economic distress, primarily due to the confluence of heavy federal taxes, lack of access to financial services and heavy state and federal regulation,” WE founder and Chief Economist Beau Whitney said.
Percentage of Profitable U.S. Cannabis Businesses
2022 2023 2024
Profitable 42.40% 24.55% 27.27%
Breaking Even 20.30% 34.48% 40.56%
Not profitable 37.40% 41.07% 32.17%

Subject: Please vote yes on Item 14 tomorrow night - Yes on Measure A Date: Monday, February 10, 2025 8:45:47 AM
Mayor Mates, Vice Mayor Pang-Maganaris, and Members of the City Council:
I am writing to urge you to vote yes on Item 14 tomorrow night, to support Measure A.
I was a supporter of Christina Corpus when she ran, hoping for a Sheriff we could trust, and worked hard to get her elected. But I am so disappointed and feel betrayed, like almost all her former supporters that I know.
She has lost the confidence of all the sworn staff - deputies, sergeants, lieutenants, and captains, including those who she has hired or promoted. We have racked up multiple lawsuits against the county as a result of her alleged misconduct, with more on the way.
The lack of leadership puts our community safety at risk. The toxic work environment puts the health and well being of the employees at risk. They come to work in spite of facing bullying, harassment, and retaliation. Healthy working conditions lead to healthy interactions with the community.
Elected officials asked her to resign last November and December - the entire Board of Supervisors, Representatives Mullin and Eshoo, State Senator Becker, and Assemblymembers Berman and Papan. In the past few weeks, the City Councils of Millbrae, San Carlos, and San Mateo have unanimously voted no confidence. I hope you will join them.
Thank you for your attention.
Nancy
