Dr. Maliika Chambers reviewed the staff report and a PowerPoint presentation.

Council and Staff discussed the aggressive schedule planned for the remainder of the year, what comes next, why it is important to extend the terms of the current committee members, clarification on the sunset clause for the committee, the need for a permanent equity/diversity committee moving forward, the contract with the National League of Cities, concern regarding the slow pace/progress, and the Race Equity and Leadership (REAL) conferences that staff members attended.

Public Comment:

1. Andre Stewart - Mr. Stewart spoke in support of the proposed resolutions.

Mayor Young discussed support for extending the committee and appointments through the end of the year, but not for an entire year.

Council and Staff discussed the committee evolving after the sunset, support for continuing the work for one more year, and conditioning the motion with saying a body or structure to continue the work after the committee sunsets to incorporate the recommendations of the study.

Council would like to see a report after 6 months to provide an update on the committee's progress with their schedule.

The resolution was approved with direction to Staff to look into having a body or structure to continue the work after the committee sunsets to incorporate the DRAFT

14 recommendations of the study, and for Staff to provide an update on the committee's progress in six months.
