Dear Beverly Hills City Council,
As a long-time resident of (digging the new sharrows!), I bike in Beverly Hills daily. It's where I conduct almost all of my business. I am in STRONG support of bike lanes on Doheny, and I hope you will approve staff's recommendation for the bike lanes on Doheny.

I also hope you will go further. While this plan is a good start, what Doheny (and Beverly Hills streets need in general) are physically protected bike lanes. If Beverly Hills made the space for a network of physically protected bike lanes, you would literally see an explosion of Beverly Hills residents using them. Imagine people biking to/from dinner, running their errands, perhaps even kids biking themselves to school! Everyone I know in Beverly Hills owns a bike and would love to use it in more practical ways.

Beverly Hills is very car oriented today, but it doesn’t have to stay that way. Given the relatively compactness of the city, there’s tremendous potential for residents to get around without having to use a car each time.

Best,
Olga Lexell

I am all for bikes and bike lanes, but it is dangerous to add them on busy streets, especially where there are limited lanes, like Doheny Drive, and where people also have to get in and out of their driveways.

I asked my husband what he thought about bike lanes on Doheny, and he answered, “Good for lawsuits.”  Meaning personal injury lawsuits.

It would be better if we had bike paths or even raised bike paths, although that would be very expensive.

I wanted to urge Beverly Hills to add badly needed bike lanes. I use my bike often to avoid traffic jams and for recreation. I am 75 years old and a resident of BH for over 26 years.

These lanes would go a long way towards making BH safer and more bike friendly. Thank you

Dear Beverly Hills City Council,
As a Beverly Hills resident, I am in support of bike lanes on Doheny. Beverly Hills is a fairly compact city, and most car trips are under 3 miles. If the city built out a safe and comprehensive network of bike lanes, we could get many cars off the road, as well as help residents patronize local businesses without the stress of traffic or looking for parking.

I encourage city council to approve staff's recommendation for bike lanes on Doheny. I also hope the city will go further in the future:
1 - Build protected intersections for both pedestrians and cyclists - intersections are when cyclists (and pedestrians) are at the highest risk. Protected intersections physically protect them from cars, and the bike lane shouldn't drop before intersections just to preserve car space.
2 - Continue the bike lane on both sides of the street including through intersections - the parking along Doheny is rarely full, and if we just had parking on one side of the street, it would open enough room to physically protect the bike lanes without detracting from residents ability to park. This would likely result in more people using the lanes.

Thank you,

City Clerk… City Council,
All you have to do is drive down Doheny Drive and you will understand why bike lanes are not a good idea. The firetrucks and rescue units literally fly down the street in the course of their important work. It will be a matter of time before someone is killed….and then there is day to day heavy traffic on top of
The city council hasn’t listened to most of the constituents on issues of crowding and traffic but maybe you will pleasantly surprise us this time.

I ride my bicycle despite my wife's fear that she will lose me to a traffic accident, and I would ride my bicycle more if it were safe to do so.

Beverly hills should be as bike friendly as Amsterdam. It would improve the quality of the air and the opportunity for exercise would improve the cardiovascular health of Beverly Hills residents

To whom it may concern,
I have been a Beverly Hills Resident for over 22 years, and I bike through and in and out of Beverly Hills several times each week. I am in total support of the proposed bike lanes on Doheny Drive.

Despite the fact that my wife, Sharon, is Chair of the BH Traffic and Parking Commission, as a citizen of BH, I still have the right to vote on this issue. And I support the proposal.

Sincerely,
Lou Ignarro

1 ??? I personally like what you did at Roxbury Park where the bike lane is separated by the parked cars on one side and the curb on the other. The idea is to keep the distance from vehicular traffic and will enhance the safety and ridership. 2 - Build protected intersections for both pedestrians and cyclists - intersections are when cyclists (and pedestrians) are at the highest risk. Protected intersections physically protect them from cars, and the bike lane shouldn't drop before intersections just to preserve car space.

Dear Sirs or Madame:

A a Beverly Hills resident, I am in support bike lanes on Doheny. However, I wish the city would go further than this plan:
1 - Build protected intersections for both pedestrians and cyclists - intersections are when cyclists (and pedestrians) are at the highest risk. Protected intersections physically protect them from cars, and the bike lane shouldn't drop before intersections just to preserve car space.
2 - Continue the bike lane on both sides of the street including through intersections - the parking along Doheny is rarely full, and if we just had parking on one side of the street, it would open enough room to physically protect the bike lanes without detracting from residents ability to park. This would likely result in more people using the lanes.

Beverly Hills is a small city. If you give people safe non-car options to get around, we can actually help get people get out of their car.

Cars should be on the outside of communities not within, build more affordable & market-rate housing above the stores in the area.
