Hello, Beverly Hills City Managers: I am a BH resident who uses that section of Doheny at least 3 times per week. Sharrows are fine for bikes but not dedicated lanes in this section of the road. Having the bikes in the middle of the lanes the same as cars is a better idea than eliminating cars from that section, or any section, of roadway. Not everyone can or wants to ride in place of driving so bikers shouldn't be given more consideration than drivers; sharing is a much better idea so we all get equal treatment on the road. Thanks for asking!! Sincerely, Marguerite Benward/

A number of years ago, a coalition of cyclists, most of whom did not live in Beverly Hills, appeared at a Council meeting to discuss the pros and cons of a bicycle path along Santa Monica Blvd.: This rude, crude group shouted down and interrupted anyone disagreeing with their objective. Thus the Santa Monica bicycle lanes were born. Bike lanes I'm told so filled with riders every day, reservations weeks in advance are necessary for you and your speedo to cycle along this symbol of selfish, self centered, narcissism.
Since then, streets (especially narrow and busily trafficked ones), became victim to bike lanes.
It's puzzling to understand why, when this City has much less trafficked and safe, beautifully landscaped, scenic streets above Santa Monica and Sunset Blvds and south of Wilshire that bike lanes were put on many of our most densely trafficked streets. Also had anyone noticed the many park areas in and around the City and something called the Pacific Ocean with bike paths from Canada to Mexico? I wonder how many more Policeman and state of the art crime fighting equipment this City could have gotten with all the money that went into the development and building of the bike lanes on Santa Monica Blvd and the painting of City streets.
I am definitely opposed to bike lanes on Doheny Drive or any other City street between Santa Monica and Wilshire Blvds.
Respectively

Dear Members of the City Council:
Regarding SS Item, please accept this email as an expression of support by my wife and me for the Staff recommendation that the City Council approve Class II Bike Lanes without removal of vehicle travel lanes or on-street parking on Doheny Drive between Burton Way and Whitworth Drive.
My wife, Jodi Cohn, and I would have appeared personally if we had not had to go to San Francisco to babysit our granddaughter, whose mother is out of town.
We both like to ride our bikes but often hesitate to do so due to safety concerns, such as the absence of clearly marked bike lanes.
We reside at
Kindest regards,
Jodi Cohn & Marc B. Hankin

I have been living on doheny for 32 years. It is a street of racing cars, loud motors, and California rolls at every stop sign, not to mention the police cars and ambulances that are constantly going up and down this street. Are you out of your minds to put a bike lane on tis street. It is not wide enough now! Only one car can go in either direction.
We need the street for parking as people have multiple cars. Why do You want to make Doheny an inconvenient street for residents? Bike lanes are an awful idea on this street. Please reconsider. We have enough traffic on this street as it is.

Hi there,
I’m writing to express my support of the bike lane project on Doheny Dr. With gas prices reaching new heights and residents facing the effects of climate change, it is more important than ever that we allow alternatives to driving.
Beverly Hills is the perfect place to implement measures like this - our city is relatively flat, easy and quick to traverse, and we are blessed with wonderful weather all year long. Bike lanes also promote general health, saving money in the long term. Academic analysis has found that the presence of bike lanes also boosts property values and increases sales in local stores - it’s a win/win!
Best,
Ramsay Edwards-McNear

Dear Mayor Bosse and members of City Council:
I support the proposed bicycle lanes for Doheny because I believe any measure to make our streets safe for travelers, no matter the mode we choose, is a positive step for Beverly Hills. Bicycle lanes encourage bicycle use and increase the visibility of those of us who travel by bicycle. That’s a positive.
Indeed whether we drive, walk, ride or scoot, it is important that the city address and improve any street condition that discourages a traveler’s choice of an alternative mode of mobility. We don’t want to encourage any traveler to get in a car to drive a few blocks when a safe and convenient alternative exists.
I want to extend my compliments to Daren and Jess and the Public Works staff who are working within unfortunate constraints to bring us safer streets, if only block by block.
Sincerely,
Mark Elliot

I have read and considered the Staff Report for the proposed Doheny Drive Bike Lanes. It reflects careful, well-informed study and a realistic and pragmatic approach to the serious concerns of public safety and traffic flow. I am writing to say that I strongly support the proposal. As a longtime Beverly Hills resident and bicycle rider who regularly rides Doheny, the proposal is well-designed to increase safety without seriously compromising traffic flow.
The Staff deserves our thanks for their efforts and expertise.
Very truly yours,
Louis Karlin

I write in support of the proposed bike lane on Doheny Blvd. We need to improve bike infrastructure in the city and build a culture of cycling where cyclists can feel comfortable and motorists better accept and respect the presence of cyclists on the street.
Thank you.

I live in Beverly Hills and I support bike lanes on Doheny Drive. Bike lanes are a great help in the safety of cyclist and they send a message to motorist that bikes have a right to be on the road. I’m a cyclist and the hostility for drivers I encounter on roads without bike lanes is far greater then the road with bike lanes.

I support the proposal to make a bike laneslong Doheny. This would provide option to move from the canyons to city proper. This would enable bikes with access to businesses along Doheny, especially restaurants and coffee shops.

Dear Mayor Bosse and City Council,
As someone who likes to get around our small town by foot and bike for health and environmental reasons, as well as pure speed and convenience, I support making our streets safer for people who chose to get around by bike.
A critical North-South bike route on Doheny, as proposed in our Complete Streets Plan passed in 2021, would make our streets friendlier and safer to cyclists.
There are many more cyclists these days. Let's make our Beverly Hills streets safer for them, which in turn, would make it much safer for drivers and pedestrians, too.
Thank you,,
Andrea Spatz
