As residents of the city of Beverly Hills
And refugees and exiles of countries where our rights were dictated by those in power, we are uneasy with the usurpation of our rights by those elected to office. We need to have our checks and balances in place and when a tiny few that are in office decide that they can vote to take out another branch of our civil servants because they are at a disagreement or fir Amy other reason, that’s an overreach of power and takes away the checks and balances that were put into place to protect us, the civilians. We chose this country for those balances of power And this city for its understanding and upholding and sensitivity to our needs as refugees seeking protection, liberty and a safe and balanced system that never over steps it’s rights as the countries we once called home Started gradually doing. Please protect our physical rights as well as our emotional and mental health needs as these actions are evoking our collective ptsd
Thank you

I wanted to express my concern regarding the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors proposal to call for a special election on Nov 8, to vote on an amendment to the county’s charter, granting the Board of Supervisors the authority to remove the Los Angeles County Sheriff by a four-fifths vote. I am vehemently opposed to this - and everyone I’ve spoken to feels the exact same way! I hope that as a city we will come out against this terrible idea.

Respectfully,
Pamela Beck

________________________________
Dear Mayor Bosse and members of City Council:

I urge you to support ASSEMBLY BILL 1713 for three reasons.

First, we want to encourage people to shift their mode of travel from automobiles to whatever other mode is most convenient. That’s exactly what our city plans say we should do. ASSEMBLY BILL 1713 represents an important step toward making alternative modes of mobility like bicycles and scooters more appealing to those who would otherwise add to traffic congestion.

Second, those who travel by bicycle or other mobility device are more safe when drivers expect to see them. That includes when they cross an intersection. While nothing excuses unsafe behavior by any road user, and those who abuse this privilege will find themselves in harm’s way sooner or later, it is the responsible road users whom we should encourage to use our streets efficiently, safely, and joyfully.

Third, ASSEMBLY BILL 1713 should divert the attention of BHPD from enforcing right-of-way violations like rolling stops to instead focus on more serious offenses like signal violations. Where does most of the harm occur? I suspect it is at signalized intersections and high-traffic corridors that are less forgiving for misbehavior like U-turns and speeding.

I don’t expect bicyclists or scooters are causing much harm — although unsafe riders will inevitably cause harm to themselves.

Thank you very much for the opportunity to comment and I welcome our new and returning councilmembers to the dais.

Dear Mayor Bosse and City council,
I would like to express my strong support for AB 1713, which allows cyclists age 18 and older to treat stop signs as yields under very specific roadway conditions. This does not apply to signalized intersections as I have heard one opponent proclaim. It is always important to base decisions upon facts, or as we say in medicine in an "evidenced based" manner, and not on opinions or assumptions.

In this situation, EVERY state or jurisdiction in which such a bill has been enacted, has shown a decline in collisions and injury. Idaho codified such a program in 1982 and this was followed by Delaware, Arkansas, Oregon and Washington. In each jurisdiction safety IMPROVED!! This bill also requires that the California Highway Patrol Commissioner collect safety information and issue a report to the Legislature.

Please support this bill for the safety of our Beverly HIlls multi-modal community!! Thank you,
Sharon Ignarro, M.D.
