Since Gov Newsom has previously said the shutdown was 'good' for their agenda (not his exact words but his clear intention), and since the current virus is much, much milder than previous viruses (my husband and I are in our 70's, got the virus in December and again in June-the December virus was much, much worse than the second one... my husband did get a high fever with the second virus but was treated with Tamiflu and it got him back to health quickly and fever free), and since we know that most masks don't work, and most people with severe comorbidities are at most risk and there are many approved medicines since the first virus, I see no reason for masks. wash your hands frequently, watch who you are around, take vit d and zinc and, you should be fine if you catch it-like we catch other sicknesses and do not shutdown or mask. btw, when one is sick, they are the ones who quarantine, not the whole population.
Thank You Sheldon and Karen Andrizzi

Hi Huma,
Would you kindly read my comment in my absence?
According to the L.A. Times, Los Angeles is the most populous county the nation. With that come risk factors for the spread of coronavirus. For one, overcrowded housing is a risk factor that is higher here in our county. Two, L.A. has the highest rate of poverty. People who live in low income areas are more likely to be hospitalized or die from Covid19. This means that when a wave hits, our county is more likely to be harder hit. And as you know, more people from outside Beverly Hills, including neighbors within our county, visit our city each day, than those who reside here.
Would masks help? Despite debate on this issue, the scientific community is in general agreement that yes, wearing a high quality mask indoors will help control the spread of coronavirus and prevent infection. According to Barbara Ferrer when people are masked indoors, safety is enhanced as less virus is circulating or penetrating the physical barrier of a mask. The Times also reported that as of Thursday July 14, 2022, L.A. County hospitals were caring for 1,223 covid positive patients, that is double the number than just one month earlier. Finally, Ferrer stated wisely, “You cannot predict with any degree of certainty whether, if you get infected, you’re going to be one of the luckier ones that ends up with mild illness or one of those that ends up with severe illness.” I believe it is safer to manage risk than to gamble and roll the dice with fingers crossed. Based on the above, I do support the proposed July 29 mask mandate given the current numbers reported.
Thank you,
Cathy Baker

Dear Mayor Bosse and City clerk,
Congratulations Mayor Bosse on your 3rd term. This will be your last term serving our beautiful city, which has suffered a great deal in the last few years.
I am hoping that you will approach all our issues with an open mind and out of the box mindset as you clearly show, in your leadership regarding local businesses and mental wellness.
I would have to say the Board of Supervisors for LA County have been absolutely wrong and have overreached with their mandates,
which is not law as you know.
Masks do not prevent the spread of the Covid viruses, as we have NO conclusive reports that show that.
Masks are in contrast, harmful to our health and mental wellbeing as well.
We have to learn to live with the virus and its many variants, especially since they are not as virulent as the initial one.
Please convince your entire City council that Beverly Hills must lead independently and boldly and not follow the
misguided lead of LA County.
If someone wants to wear a mask for whatever reason, so be it but if others don't, we must give them that
option and not force it on them.
It is time we let our local businesses thrive, our school children go to school and socialize normally with their classmates and teachers, and it is TIME for all of us to live and all go back to normal, whatever that may be for everyone of us!!
I will be at today's meeting and am open to reading this out in person if possible.
Thank you,

Hello Council Members,
As a resident of Beverly Hills I am concerned with the idea that masks could be making a return. At this point, it is not about being anti mask it’s about the mandate not being justified by science. Many of the case numbers have been shown to be greatly inflated and proven by USC medical. USC has shown that most people hospitalized are not hospitalized for COVID reasons. I do not believe that bringing the masks back in July of 2022 two years after the pandemic started is a smart decision. I know that many people will not want to go back to these mask mandates that clearly should have been left behind when widespread vaccine rollouts began in 2021. We also see that the LA health supervisor Barbara Ferrer who wants to bring back these mask mandates two years after the beginning of the pandemic has also been seen at the MLB all star game this past week, maskless and in a crowd of 50,000 people which means that even she isn’t worried about the cases. I ask the City of Beverly Hills to push back against LA county. This is not to being anti mask I just believe that if you want to wear a mask you can do as you please but not force those who don’t want to wear one to wear one.
Best Regards,
Concerned Resident

Hello, wonderful City Council members of Beverly Hills. I am a resident of this city and believe that we thrive by valuing our businesses, residents, public safety, and more.
Evidently, all aspects of our community have been threatened by LA County’s senseless government officials. It is unfortunate that this emergency Council meeting is to discuss another unjustified mask mandate brought upon by LA County when our city is seeing a tremendous surge in crime, violence, and homelessness. Just last week, our City Council was discussing an appalling power grab by the LA County Board of Supervisors to remove the Sheriff by a four-fifths vote on the November ballot. Just that alone, proved the lack of credibility and intelligence of the Board of Supervisors. How can we trust these unconstitutional individuals to guide us when they continue to demonstrate ignorance? This mask mandate brings about the same feelings of an over-breach of government, especially with the absence of logic, facts, and science in decision making. I believe over two years into this pandemic, no person or city should be mandated to wear a mask indoors against their will. COVID19 is here to stay, and forcing individuals to mask up indoors makes absolutely no sense on any level. It is our job to protect our businesses and residents from LA’s deceitful officials and policies. Our city has been tremendously targeted throughout this pandemic, and we must no longer be bullied by the County to cause further damage. An indoor mask mandate is only going to place a deeper burden and distraction on our community. Our city has and is doing its part to successfully navigate throughout this pandemic, especially with the ongoing progress of the #OpenBH program. Beverly Hills is a city that should lead by example as we always have in our proactive efforts. Now is the time to come together as a strong community, and show that we value and encourage free will. Masks should remain optional, as we move to return our community to normalcy in these already challenging times.

Hello,
My name is Lorig Kaveh and I am the parent of 3 BHUSD students, ages, 7, 10 and 14.
I’ll keep it brief, the purpose of my email is to have on record that I as an active, involved parent vote against masks in school. Not indoors, not outdoors. No student should be mandated to wear a mask while in school. This hinders learning in all forms. My 7 year old has speech and learning disabilities that have been exasperated due to masking in classrooms and on playgrounds. As for my older children, it stands as an obstacle for children to feel engaged and connected to their instructors. There is a lack of interest in looking at the teacher while they’re teaching when their entire face is covered.
Therefore I am 100% against masks. This is not a pandemic for children and therefore they should not be bearing the weight and burden of the affects of a pandemic for adults.
Furthermore, with the vaccines and medications now available, Covid is no longer threatening nearly as many lives as it did when we first were faced with it.
Leave out kids alone.
Thank you,
Lorig Kaveh

No ! Masks don’t work as the vaccine and booster don’t work either - or why wd people still be getting sick! People need to boost their immune systems!’ Vaccines cause adverse side effects and even death. Life insurance companies say that claims have gone up 40 % for people who have died during the prime of their lives! This has never happened before , refer to famous Lancet medical journal for info on adverse effects! The govt is lying to us and the press has been bought off by the pharmaceutical companies who buy their ads - and who are becoming ultra rich with phony vaccines which do not stop infection nor transmission. And there are therapies which if taken early can sure Covid it’s got a 99.7 survival rate!! People who have a comorbidity get sick . So we all have to suffer for those who pretty much could be well but chose to eat junk food - many are overweight!! Diabetes can be controlled by diet and exercise !

Hello,
As a concerned parent I’d like to make sure that children are not going to be masked indoors when school starts. As per July 29 indoor masking ( by LA Co Public Health)this needs to be avoided and put to a stop. Our children are already behind in school. The masks cause psychological and emotional damage to our children. Also studies show that masking has emotionally caused trauma to our children. We all know children are not affected by Covid-19 so please fight for our children. We would love your support to end all masking in the city of Beverly Hills.

Dear Beverly Hills City Council,
The proposed health order issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Health for indoor masking is ridiculous. it has been established that masks are ineffective unless it’s M95 and worn properly. There is not a chance to be certain that everyone can wear M95 AND that everyone wear those masks properly; especially for children.
Even so, the masks only protect the wearer. So there is no benefit to the public to coerce people to wear a mask when they don’t mind having covid which is just like a severe cold now. Further, there is no state of emergency as the hospitals are not overwhelmed with Covid patients.
Three years into this and 4 vaccines later, we should not be enforcing masking again.
Everyone who wanted to protect themselves has had a chance to vaccinate and may wear a mask. There is no need or benefit to enforce masking on everyone.
The city of Beverly Hills should Not be enforcing this arbitrary health order on July 29th.
Thank you for listening.
Sincerely,

Hello, regarding the upcoming meeting where masking is on the agenda, I’d like to comment against a masking mandate. I live in South Beverly Hills. Masking has had a negative impact on my two year old who has severe speech delay and covering mouths is confusing for him. My four year old isn’t old enough to understand wearing his mask properly or keeping it clean and is instead wearing a mask with nasal discharge and crumbs inside by the time he gets home and clearly it is not being worn in a way that would provide any meaningful medical impact. Also, the masking mandates encourage criminal activity. If everyone wears a mask all the criminals covering their faces blend right in. Please care for our children and safety and do not require masks. Thank you, Grace Tassa Sent from my iPhone

Public comment
There is significant evidence that children do not need to wear masks. It is widely accepted that children are at significantly lower risk from COVID-19 than adults and have a lower chance of being infected by and transmitting the virus to others.
When balanced against the physical, mental and emotional harm that is now becoming evident, it is clear that masks do more harm than good. Studies have found that masks cause anxiety and depressive feelings, and impair a child’s social development and ability to communicate.
In a news conference on July 13, Brad Spellberg, the chief medical officer of Los Angeles County and University of Southern California Medical Center, and epidemiologist Paul Holtom, said that there have been no changes in the transmission levels of COVID-19.” “Our Covid situation – it’s just the same. It has not changed,” Spellberg said. He showed a graph and said, “it’s plateaued and has not gone down.” Dr. Spellberg said they are seeing thousands of people with Covid, “but it is mild, and they go home,” he said.
He said of the patients who are admitted to the hospital, “90% of the time it is not due to Covid. Only 10% of our Covid-positive admissions are due to Covid.” The two doctors dismissed L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer’s claims that masking will likely be necessary by the end of the month, and said the Public Health Officer’s assessment doesn’t match the data and actual numbers.
“We’re just seeing nobody with severe Covid symptoms,’ Holtom added.

MASKS DON'T EVEN WORK!
When the whole mask debacle began last year, I ignored the politicians' advice (including and especially that coming from Tony Fauci) because they ALL HAVE AN AGENDA.
So instead, I consulted an old friend who is a longtime ER nurse about the efficacy of masks. Of course, as an average American citizen and my friend, she had no agenda nor any reason to lie to me...and perhaps every reason to tell me the truth. Here's what she told me:
Only a certain type of mask works, and then only if it is applied and used by a trained professional. Yes, it's true that medical professionals use masks, BUT THEY HAVE SPECIFIC AND EXTENSIVE TRAINING IN MASK UTILIZATION! My friend (the ER nurse) then sent me the training video from which medical professionals learn to correctly use a mask. Bottom line, it takes about 10- 20 minutes to put a mask the correct way so that it will be of use. Then another 5-10 minutes to remove the mask in order not to contaminate oneself.
Finally, the mask must be carefully disposed of.
And if this procedure is NOT followed, the mask can actually become contaminated and become a source of Covid infection.
And the only mask that works (but only when applied properly) is an N95 which is thick, stiff, bulky, unattractive, hot, unbreathable and very uncomfortable.
DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO USES MASKS WHO FOLLOWS THIS VERY STRINGENT PROTOCOL? DO YOU FOLLOW IT, OR EVEN KNOW ABOUT THE PROTOCOL?
The conclusion MUST BE that our "leaders" are either incredibly ignorant to insist on mask use (especially without any mention of any of the above protocol for use), OR THEY ARE INCREDIBLY CONTROLLING AND MANIPULATIVE. OR MOST PROBABLY they are BOTH ignorant and controlling..
Our "leaders", with their mask mandates, are taking away our freedom without any bonafide reasons WHATSOEVER.

To whom this concerns:
We are now well into the 3rd year of this pandemic, we now have more published knowledge, corroborated research, factual data and information about Covid19 than we did in 2020 and 2021. At this point, most of us have gotten the Covid19 virus at least once if not several times. Most of us our vaccinated. Masks have proven time and time again to not protect from this virus. Given herd immunity, this virus and it's variants are similar to the common cold. High risk elderly have survived this virus. We now also have multiple medications that treat Covid19 within less than a few days.
Why are we wearing masks? What are we protecting from? For what reason? We weren't wearing masks before with different sars covid virus that have mutated and are continuing to mutate. So why are we wearing masks now?
I've had countless conversations with Principals, Teachers and Staff at BHUSD that the students are behind and they are having a hard time understand and grasping the lessons and concepts no matter how much teachers are working after hours to figure out why students are not learning. Why aren't we concerned about or focusing on this topic? Our children are completely behind academically, socially, developmentally, emotionally and nothing is being done about this. Learning is acquired through visual, auditory, sensory, audio-visual, tactile and in many different ways. Students cannot understand what teachers are even saying when they are wearing masks. Students can't read or see their Teachers' lips.
The Teachers can't see or read emotions on their Students' faces to confirm that the students actually understand and grasp the concept that's being taught. This is serious. This needs serious attention. Why isn't anything being done about this?
It's time to take a stand. Enough is enough. Our children's overall health and well-being are dependent on all of this. Our children have survived and will continue to survive the common cold virus. They will not survive their emotional, psychological and academic impairments and setbacks due to all the Covid19 mandates and restrictions imposed on them. Our community at large will not survive the setback that our children are being faced with everyday because of all these futile mandates.
Please take a stand for our community. Enough is enough! Jasmine Y. Yadegar, PhD

I second Dr. Hemmati.
No mask mandates.
No mandates.
Except for vaccinating the elderly and the medically ill, all our interventions have caused more harm than good.
Respectfully.

I second all the below. I may not be a Beverly Hills resident, but I have a longstanding affection for your city generally and for your city government specifically — my first job out of high school nearly forty years ago, when I was a first year student at UCLA — was working camera for Beverly Hills City Council meetings. It furnished me a front row seat on how a city ought to conduct itself. To this day, you remain the model for the rest of the county and I would urge you to once again pick up the baton where Los Angeles has dropped it and help lead us out of this nearly three-year-old fog of fear, irrationality, superstition, pseudoscience, misinformation and deeply misplaced good intentions.
A strong statement from Beverly Hills would give numerous other smaller cities the moral and administrative direction to follow suit.
Regards,
wm
