Dear City Council,
My name is Om Gopurala. I am a member of the Medical Science Academy at my high school. I am in favor of Prop 31. I think that tobacco products have become widespread and pervasive throughout America. It is time to make a positive change like the decision that this council made in a groundbreaking ban on the sale of Tobacco Products in Beverly Hills. The negative impact tobacco has on health is well documented. It is the nicotine that keeps users addicted. Now, the new flavors will not only keep adult tobacco users hooked but will attract the emerging generation.
Widespread use of tobacco products leads society to newfound health problems, lifethreatening health issues, and increases in health costs. America was founded on the basis of freedom and independence but this unseen phenomenon of tobacco is threatening this freedom. The list of the side effects of tobacco is endless. Big tobacco is more powerful than any one person or group. That is why I am in favor of Prop 31. Banning flavored tobacco is a massive leap in the positive direction. Thank you for letting me voice my opinion and listening.
Sincerely,
Om Gopurala

Dear City Council,
My name is Rebecca Hauptschein and I am a part of the Medical Science Academy at Beverly Hills High School. I am in support of Prop 31. Advertising and selling e-cigarettes targets my generation and causes detrimental health problems and life-long addictions.
Everytime I go out to a social setting I see every other person has an e-cigarette in their hand and it is sickening to see. Tobacco companies only value their profit and disregard the health of the youth. Flavored tobacco products make it more desirable for teens and banning the sale of flavored tobacco will significantly lower the access to these dangerous products.
Thank you.
Best,
Rebecca Hauptschein

Dear City Council Members,
Hello, I am Sofia Kalepari, President of the Medical Science Academy at Beverly Hills High School. I am speaking in favor of Proposition 31, and the banning of the sale of e-cigarettes at the state level. The Medical Science Academy represented the youth voice when the Beverly Hills City Council made the groundbreaking decision to put the health of their citizens over the greed of the tobacco companies. We aim to continue representing this youth voice as Proposition 31 plans to ban the sale of e-cigarettes state wide. As a student in high school, e-cigarettes are extremely common, and are a rising issue. More kids continue to fall under the influence of the advertising and sale of tobacco companies and become addicted to these e-cigarettes. Proposition 31 would not only be beneficial to all Californians, but would especially be helpful for all the children in California who are susceptible to e-cigarettes.
Thank you so much for your time,
Sofia Kalepari

Dear City Council members,
I am emailing you regarding being in support of Proposition 31, the flavored tobacco products ban referendum. I am a student at Beverly Hills High School, part of the Medical Science Academy and I would like to see the ban of flavored tobacco products to help protect the health of my classmates and friends in our community. Seeing the ban of the flavored tobacco would eliminate much of the smoking scene around teens and youth state wide. The flavors and smells is what attracts the kids, many adolescents wouldn't be as intrigued and prevent future potential young addicts.
Every other party I go to I see the next victim being peer pressured and attracted by the smells of various flavors including bubblegum, blueberry, and endless more. Removing the flavors would eliminate what attracts kids and keep it out of their hands. Currently we are weighing the health of our youth and our citizens against the greed of the tobacco companies. I hope this email helps you understand a more youthful perspective on proposition 31 and why I'm in favor.
Thank you for your time,
Arian Naim

Dear City Council Members,
My name is Liel Yosian and I am a part of the Medical Science Academy at Beverly Hills High School. I have been a part of this class/ organization for three years.
I am writing to you in regards to Prop. 31, I support Prop. 31. I believe flavored tobacco products should be banned state wide. Tobacco companies are targeting little kids and teenagers with these flavors and that is not okay. This leads to addiction and as well as many lives being ruined by the drug.
Although Beverly Hills High School has many rules, regulations, and consequences it is not enough. I experience first hand all of the students who get away from these consequences.
Many students still use these flavored tobacco products all over campus, luckily it isn't as severe as it was. In addition to this, in many social settings the use of flavored tobacco products is heavy. Majority of the students at these events carry one with them. This is not okay. This is why I believe the sale of flavored tobacco should be banned.
The values of these tobacco companies, greed, is not more important than the health of the younger community (young kids and teenagers). They must be stopped!! I support Prop. 31.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Liel Yosian
