Hi,
While I am unable to be there in person, I am compelled to request that a pending development project - recently passed through the Planning Commission - be “calledup” by the Council to review the decision, and how it directly and significantly impacts the existing tenants.

The development project in question is for 149-159 South Maple.

I have been here for more than 50 years! I believe that I am one of only 8 remaining original “Chapter 5” units in the city. Soon to be 7. Quite alarming.

When BH first embraced rent control measures, high inflation cast a cloud on the housing market, causing rents to sky rocket. Sound familiar? The power dynamic between tenant and owner had swung significantly toward the landlords. Without strict, strong and systemic protections, tenants were at a major disadvantage. But BH stepped up – strengthening tenant protections and conserving rental housing stock.

So I speak here tonight to ask the city to once again step up and protect its most vulnerable – one of the last Chapter 5 units. I am a senior citizen retiree who, again, has been a BH community member for more than 50 years. If the council cannot stand up to developers for me, then we might as well just abandon all Rent Stabilization efforts.

The relocation fees are ridiculously insufficient in this current environment. If they had increased from the 1979 levels at the rate that the actual property values did, the resettlement fee would be around $200,000 – not the 15k which barely covers first, last, security deposit and moving expenses. And all existing tenants should receive at least one full year to find comparable alternatives as again the current housing/rental market is beyond challenging.

Now, I realize that the project will almost assuredly go through. But the city needs to ensure that its most vulnerable are protected and treated fairly in its wake.

The details regarding the length of time existing tenants should get to vacate their units as well as actual fair relocation fees can all be discussed in much further detail once the Council agrees to call-up the project for further review.

Thank you,
Linda Schneider

Hi Chloe,
Thanks for sending us this information. Could you please add the following comment for us (again!) Dear Honorable Mayor Bosse and Honorable City Council members, We are most grateful for all of the time and effort that has been spent clarifying the urgency ordinance that prohibits lot line adjustments across city boundaries. As you are undoubtedly aware, we have been unequivocally supportive of the urgency ordinance and continue to support making the ordinance permanent.

The ordinance will clarify the zoning code and ensure that the processes and procedures related to lot line adjustments are clear and consistent with the General Plan, especially prohibiting split jurisdiction parcels. It will eliminate any confusion as to which jurisdiction controls construction; and, especially here in Trousdale, we will not have a lot that is 1/2 under Beverly Hills jurisdiction and 1/2 in Los Angeles, thus causing a myriad of problems.

Please adopt the proposed ordinance as presented by the Planning Commission.

Thank you

To Whom it May Concern:

We are the owners of the property at 133 S. Spalding. We understand that several parties have complained about the above referenced building holding some very loud parties on the roof over the past 18 months until late at night.

From our perspective, keeping the music volume low and stopping by 11pm are reasonable requests. We are not interested in advocating for a total prohibition of their use of the roof for entertainment just resonable volume control and stop gap hours.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

All the best,

Trousdale residents have been forced to endure repeated power failures, one of which left our residents in the dark for 29 hours. We never have any advance notice. Despite assurances to the contrary, we just had another power failure in the dark hours of November 7. This is unconscionable.

Our residents are asking if we live in a third world country, and they have every right to do so.

Then to add insult to injury, we all got emails about their communication during the power failures. That is ridiculous, because the power knocks out the internet, so unless our residents have completely charged phones with hotspots, they have no way of receiving the email (that normally isn’t helpful and provides a time estimate that is never met).

There are 520 homes in Trousdale and a significant number of them are occupied by people that may not even be internet savvy; and, more importantly, rely on life -saving devices such as oxygen that run on electricity. Many of our residents can’t get their front gates open, causing them to be prisoners in their homes because they can’t get their cars out. Electric cars cannot be charged. Alarms don’t work. People with a lot of technology are also complaining that they constantly need to call for repairs. Not to mention food spoilage, etc. etc. There is no way to plan for these outages, either.

We appreciate all that you have tried to do on behalf of Trousdale and other BH residents that find themselves in the same predicament. Please keep up the pressure on them until they permanently fix the infrastructure so that these power failures cease, including seeking all legal remedies. We also should receive some financial compensation, such as a month credit on each homeowner’s bill.

Best Regards!

We are writing to express our frustration with repeated power failures. Please bring the below to SCE representatives' attention. Thank you!
We have had repeated power failures and we are left with almost $1,000 bill to replace some internet equipment that were fried when the power came back on. The surge in power when the issue is corrected is unacceptable.

The emails about the power failures were not received because when there is a power failure, there is no internet! SCE needs to find a better way to communicate with us during power failures that are expected to last more than an hour. With respect to the last power failure on November 7th which occurred around 5 PM, the expected correction time moved a few times.

SCE needs to do a much better job of estimating the time that it takes to correct power failures. Moving the time several times gives us false hope and makes planning our activities almost impossible.

Perhaps the biggest issue is security. Alarm systems and security cameras don’t work during power failures! Long power outages create significant security risk. How is SCE going to address this risk?
I sense that SCE is being cheap. Instead of upgrading the infrastructure, they use a ban-aid to correct every problem. This is completely unacceptable. If SCE needs to be paid promptly with respect to our monthly statements, we need reliable service.

Respectfully,
Mark and Farah Nehoray

Dear Honorable Mayor Bosse and Honorable City Council Members:

Re: Agenda Item G-2/So Cal Edison
We are writing to you on behalf of the beleaguered residents of Trousdale.

We have been forced to endure repeated power failures, one of which left our residents in the dark for 29 hours. We never have any advance notice. Despite assurances to the contrary, we just had another power failure in the dark hours of November 7. This is unconscionable.

Our residents are asking if we live in a third world country, and they have every right to do so.

In a recent conversation with some employees of Edison that I found in front of my house, I was informed that they were installing little red blinking lights so that they could more easily identify the location of a potential problem. To me that sounded like a “band aid” solution so I asked if that fixes any of the underlying problems and I was resoundingly told “NO”. Why are they wasting their time with little red lights and not fixing the issues so that we can keep our power on?
Then to add insult to injury, we all got emails about their communication during the power failures. That is ridiculous, because the power knocks out the internet, so unless our residents have completely charged phones with hotspots, they have no way of receiving the email (that normally isn’t helpful and provides a time estimate that is never met).

Or we should also consider withholding payment until updates to the infrastructure are properly taken care of.

Again this is completely unacceptable and cannot continue. Something must be done about it immediately.
