Schedule A PT23089
1. PROBLEM STATEMENT
Beverly Hills is a 5.7 square mile city with a total population of approximately 33,274 persons and a population density of 5,829 persons per square mile. We also have an annual population of 8.85 million tourists visiting our city. Due to the high density of people, Beverly Hills Police Department targeted enforcement is primarily focused on DUI drivers and PCF (Primary Collision Factor) violations that causes traffic crashes. These violations include unsafe speed, right of way violations, and unsafe turning movements.
In 2021 (January-December) we had 350 injury and 3 fatal traffic crashes. We also had a total of 30 DUI Traffic Crashes during this time frame and 118 DUI Arrests.
Currently, Beverly Hills Police Department officers are working over 100 traffic complaints throughout our city. Many of the afore mentioned traffic complaints are focused on the unsafe driving habits that have been plaguing our city for several years including speed, stop sign and right of way violations. In addition, a significant number of the new traffic complaints are a result of changing traffic patterns related to the construction of two new Metro subway stations in the city. The construction related to the Metro project will be continuing for the next 2-3 years.
The Beverly Hills Police Department is committed to proactively working to create the safest possible driving experience for our residents, business community and visitors. The OTS grant funds will be utilized to accomplish this objective.
