Design Review Commission Interview Panel Update
None

INTRODUCTION
The Design Review Commission (DRC) Interview Panel composed of Councilmember John A. Mirisch and Councilmember Lester J. Friedman, Design Review Chair Anthony P. Spann and Vice Chair Terri Smooke met on Thursday, November 3, 2022.

The panel interviewed five (5) applicants for three upcoming vacancies on the Commission.

DISCUSSION
After discussion and careful review, the panel recommended that the interview process be re-opened. The panel was of the opinion that applicants should be better prepared with an understanding of the Design Review Commission’s roles and responsibilities.

Additionally, due to the number of upcoming vacancies for this commission and the timelines associated with the appointments, the panel has requested that the current outgoing commissioners temporarily remain on the commission until their positions are filled.

The following commissioners require City Council approval for a temporary extension of their terms:
- Barry Bernstein (term concludes: December 2022)
- Sandy Pressman (term concludes: June 2023)
- Anthony P. Spann (term concludes: June 2023)
Non-residents can still apply for one seat which requires a licensed residential or landscape architect. The application process has re-opened with a new deadline of Friday, January 13, 2023 at 5PM.

RECOMMENDATION
The interview panel recommends that the City Council approve the aforementioned commissioners to remain seated until their positions can be filled. The City is actively seeking candidates for this commission.

It is strongly recommended that applicants learn about the commissions they are applying for before their interviews. Information is available on the City’s website at www.beverlyhills.org.

Commission applicants are encouraged to apply for the popular Team Beverly Hills program as a way to learn more about local City government.

Huma Ahmed,
City Clerk
