STAFF REPORT
Meeting Date: December 13, 2022
To: Honorable Mayor & City Council
From: Elisabeth Albanese, Police Captain
Subject: 2021 Charitable Solicitations Commission Annual Report Attachments: 1. 2021 Charitable Solicitations Commission Annual Report

INTRODUCTION
The 2021 Charitable Solicitations Commission Report is generated to familiarize the City and the community with all of the important accomplishments of the Charitable Solicitations Commission throughout the 2021 calendar year and to provide the financial information related to those charitable solicitations activities. This report is provided for information only.

DISCUSSION
The primary responsibility of the Charitable Solicitations Commission is to ensure the compliance of charitable organizations that solicit donations or funds from the residents of Beverly Hills. Compliance with established permitting guidelines helps to protect our community from fraudulent, fictitious, or otherwise unscrupulous solicitations. It also keeps the community aware of the many charitable events held in Beverly Hills. In close cooperation with the Police Department, the Commission regulates the issuance of solicitation permits, reviews financial statements provided by charities, and maintains a dedicated website for the public to obtain information regarding permitted solicitations.

The attached annual report provides highlights of the Commission’s accomplishments and statistical information related to charitable solicitations. Most noteworthy of these are:

1. A total of 94 permits issued

2. The review of financial statements of 82 monetary drives and charitable events presented during 2021

3. Collaboration with the Human Relations Commission to review and evaluate 31 applications for the Community Assistance Grant Fund for FY 22/23 to determine the allocation of funds based on service needs within the City

FISCAL IMPACT
None.
