RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that City Council move to accept the described work by Mehta Mechanical Company, Inc. dba MMC, Inc. in the final amount of $2,819,933.89 and authorize the City Clerk to record the attached Notice of Completion.
INTRODUCTION
This report provides information to City Council for the acceptance of the contract work in the final amount of $2,819,933.89 and authorization for the recordation of the Notice of Completion by the City Clerk with the Los Angeles County Recorder.
DISCUSSION
On May 4, 2021, a contract in the amount of $2,634,250 was awarded to Mehta Mechanical Company, Inc. dba MMC, Inc. on the basis of sealed competitive bids received after public advertising for the Equipping of La Cienega Well No. 1 (LCW-1) project.
Additionally, a contingency of $265,750 (10.1%) was approved, for a total purchase order amount of $2,900,000. This project provided for equipping of a new potable water well, LCW-1, located at 1956 Chariton Street in Los Angeles. Major work included construction of a well building, bladder surge tank, piping, concrete pavement, HVAC system, PLC system, electrical/instrumentation system, landscaping, and irrigation. per week to the treatment plant for processing and distribution. This resource adds to the City’s continual efforts for water reliability and independence from Metropolitan Water District.
Public Works Engineering Division staff inspected all the work and is satisfied that the work was completed according to the contract documents approved for this project.
FISCAL IMPACT
The original construction contract purchase order (which included a contract amount of $2,634,250 plus a $265,750 contingency amount) was $2,900,000. The final contract amount is $2,819,933.89, leaving a purchase order balance of $80,066.12, which will be returned to the Water Fund balance.
The current amount paid on the contract is $2,678,937.20 with a retention balance of $140,996.69 due to be paid 35 days after the recordation of the Notice of Completion.
