INTRODUCTION
The 2022 Charitable Solicitations Commission Report is generated to familiarize the City and the community with all of the significant accomplishments of the Charitable Solicitations Commission throughout the 2022 calendar year and to provide the financial information related to those charitable solicitations activities. This report is provided for information only.
DISCUSSION
The primary responsibility of the Charitable Solicitations Commission is to ensure the compliance of charitable organizations that solicit donations or funds from the residents of Beverly Hills. Compliance with established permitting guidelines helps to protect our community from fraudulent, fictitious, or otherwise unscrupulous solicitations. It also keeps the community aware of the many charitable events held in Beverly Hills. In close cooperation with the Police Department, the Commission regulates the issuance of solicitation permits, reviews financial statements provided by charities, and maintains a dedicated website for the public to obtain information regarding permitted solicitations.
The attached annual report provides highlights of the Commission’s accomplishments and statistical information related to charitable solicitations. Most noteworthy of these are:
1. Issued a total of 149 permits in 2022, 113 event permits, and 33 monetary drives.1
2. Reviewed 133 financial statements of solicitations that concluded in the 2022 calendar year.
3. Collaboration with the Human Relations Commission to review and evaluate 30 applications for the Community Assistance Grant Fund for FY 23/24 to determine the allocation of funds based on service needs within the City. As a result, a joint 1 Some permits issued in 2022 conclude in 2023; therefore are not included in this report.
decision was made, and a recommendation was submitted to the City Council to approve 26 of the applications.
FISCAL IMPACT
None.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council receive and file this report as it is for informational purposes only.
