RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends City Council accept the described contract work with Ramco General Engineering Contractors, Inc. (formerly Emilio Ramirez DBA Ramco General Engineering Contractors) and authorize the City Clerk to record the attached Notice of Completion.
INTRODUCTION
This report provides information and requests City Council acceptance of the contract work indicated below and authorization of the City Clerk to record the Notice of Completion (Attachment 1) with the Los Angeles County Recorder.
DISCUSSION
The Capital Improvement Project No. 00893, Public Works 2nd Floor Remodel, identified a need to accommodate the merger of Transportation, Park Services and Urban Forestry staff with the Public Works Department (the Department). Since 2003, the number of staff has increased, through a few rearrangements of system furniture and utilizing makeshift furniture, workspaces for additional staff were created within the existing floor layout.
However, since the merger of Transportation, Park Services and Urban Forestry staff with the Department, the number of employees has outgrown available square footage. The Meeting Date: March 18, 2024
pandemic enabled telecommuting opportunities for staff; as such, Centralized Customer Relations staff are able to telecommute fully, allowing for the office area to be remodeled and provide expansion area for open workstations. Phase 1 of the remodel project that included the creation of a 115 square-foot lactation room to meet state and federal regulations and a modest remodel area of 2,500 square feet (SF) to expand the open workstations area on the second floor to accommodate a larger quantity of new workstations and interactive meeting area is now complete.
Staff from the Public Works and Community Development Departments inspected the work and are satisfied that all work performed is consistent with construction documents.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding for this work is budgeted in Fund 450, Capital Improvements Projects No. 00893, Public Works 2nd Floor Remodel. The total contract amount is $199,670, which includes a contingency amount of $8,600. Due to existing unforeseen conditions, one change order in the amount of $21,250 was issued. The project cost amounts to $212,320.
The current amount paid on the contract is $201,704, with a retention balance of $10,616.00 to be paid 35 days after the recordation of the Notice of Completion.
