INTRODUCTION
This report provides information and requests City Council’s acceptance of the contract work indicated below and authorization of the City Clerk to record the Notice of Completion (Attachment 1) with the Los Angeles County Recorder.

DISCUSSION
The existing single uninterruptible power supply (UPS) unit that served the Police Department Dispatch Center was approximately 20 years old and was beyond its usable life. The scope of this project included the installation of a new dual UPS system as backup power in the event of power failure to enable continuous operations in the Dispatch Center, including receiving and responding to 911 calls.

The project scope also included electrical and HVAC upgrades to the existing UPS room, remodel and conversion of the adjacent storage area to house the second UPS unit as well as installation of new electrical panel boards in the dispatch area server room and upgrade of rack-mounted IT server, switch equipment and all dispatch workstations to provide redundant power sources for computer equipment.

The result of this work significantly improves the electrical service reliability for the Police Department Dispatch Center and 911 Call Center.

During the course of construction several unforeseen conditions were discovered; in addition, a temporary UPS unit was furnished due to failure of the original UPS unit. While the contractor was on site, additional work was also added to the scope of work to add the load-serving radio equipment located on the roof to the new UPS units. A total of 11 change orders were issued in the total amount of $120,055.

Staff from the Public Works and Community Development Departments have inspected the work and are satisfied that all work performed is consistent with construction documents and permitted drawings.

FISCAL IMPACT
Funding for this work is budgeted in Fund 405, Capital Improvements Project No. 00922, UPS Equipment Replacement Projects. The total contract amount is $920,427 which includes a contingency amount of $120,055. The total project cost amounts to $917,259; therefore, a balance of $3,168 will be credited back to the original funding source.

The current amount paid on the contract is $871,396, with a retention balance of $45,863.00 to be paid 35 days after the recordation of the Notice of Completion.
