Dear Mayor Friedman and members of the city council:
Several months ago, at the mayor’s initiative this council consented to allow the mayor, at his sole discretion, to delay hearing from certain public speakers until the very end of the meeting. At that time few people will be listening and maybe that’s the point.
However I always want to hear what my neighbors have to say to city council. And I think they should have the opportunity to do so at the beginning of the meeting. Also I would like to see the council get on to the people’s business at 7pm.
May I respectfully suggest that city council consider deferring ceremonial presentations to the end of the meeting? At that time viewers can tune-in if they choose. Then after the council dispenses with city business I will be happy to tune in for the festivities.
Sincerely,
Mark Elliot

Dear Mayor Friedman, Vice Mayor Nazarian and City Council Members Mirisch, Wells, and Corman, Thank you for your efforts regarding SCE’s utter failure to address our many, many power outages and failing infrastructure. At this point there are too many to count.
To the members of SCE who are present tonight, enough is enough. You cannot continue to pretend there have been upgrades and everything is ok. It’s not.
I have lived here almost all my life and have never seen anything like this. It is heartbreaking to see our elderly neighbors suffer when the power goes out. We have neighbors who rely on life saving machines who face multiple challenges when the power goes out over and over again.
People are getting trapped behind their gates and garage doors with no way out. Neighbors are throwing refrigerators and freezers full of food out consistently.
This has happened in summer’s hottest heat and winter’s coldest moments. Each and every time there is some sort of excuse as to why the power has failed.
This is a basic right. You cannot deny us of that basic right. You feel comfortable enough to continue raising prices and complacent enough to give us the worst service possible.
In addition, you have no issue offering coupons and discounts on backup power and generators. That is quite ridiculous.
Fix the problem please. No one should live the way we have been forced to live by you and SCE.
This has got to stop. No more excuses.
Thank you,
Kathy Melamed

Dear Mayor Friedman, Vice Mayor Nazarian, Council Member Mirisch, Council Member Corman and Council Member Wells:
I am unable to attend the City Council meeting on Tuesday night but I wanted to make sure that my voice was heard regarding the situation with Southern California Edison in the Trousdale area.
We all rely on uninterrupted and reliable electricity in this day and age and it is unacceptable that we incur these constant and persistent power outages which have become more than an inconvenience but are now a life safety hazard. Because the electrical service has been so unreliable, we have now invested in large batteries, power banks and a backup generator and have considered a whole house Generac System that would be extremely expensive.
We encourage SCE to expedite all improvements, immediately, that are necessary to improve reliability to the grid.

Dear Members of the Beverly Hills City Council,
I am writing regarding Agenda Item A-1, which concerns memorializing the victims of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel. I strongly urge the council to take action on this important matter.
The horrific events of the October 7 attack shocked the entire world. Our community is still reeling from the loss of so many Israeli and American citizens, among many other nationalities. It is crucial that we honor the memory of those lost and stand in solidarity with their loved ones. A memorial serves as more than a tribute; it provides a space for us to grieve together and show our support for one another.
I understand that budgetary constraints may be raised as a potential impediment to establishing a memorial.
However, I urge the council to consider that the value of such a memorial far outweighs its monetary cost. Beyond the comfort the memorial may bring to those affected, a memorial symbolizes unity. It becomes a powerful testament to our shared values and our commitment to combating hatred and violence. The impact on our community's spirit and, importantly, the education of future generations are immeasurable.
Moreover, there are various options available that can be tailored to fit within budgetary limitations:
1. Placing Israeli flags in Beverly Gardens Park is a cost-effective yet powerful visual statement.
2. Designating an honorary street or intersection is a lasting tribute that requires minimal financial investment.
3. A memorial, whether temporary or permanent, could be funded through a combination of city allocation and community fundraising efforts.
I respectfully urge the council to approve a permanent memorial without delay. Its significance transcends financial considerations. Let us demonstrate that Beverly Hills stands firmly against terrorism and in support of its diverse community of residents.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I deeply appreciate your dedication to our community and your commitment to honoring the victims of this tragic event.
Sincerely,
