Assistant Director of Community Services, Patty Acuna, presented a historical timeline recapping the steps in the process, from the point of deinstalling the piece because of damage, to the current progress made on the refabrication of the Yayoi Kusama, Hymn of Life: Tulips sculpture.
- City Council approved the original agreement with Art Bronze in August 2019 to fabricate a new stainless-steel sculpture.
- In July 2019, City Council approved loaning the original sculpture to New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) for a Kusama exhibition in 2020 while the new sculpture was created. - NYBG Botanical Garden Kusama exhibit was postponed in early 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic. Exhibit was rescheduled for April 2021.
- April 21, 2021, Art Bronze went out of business and the city entered into a new agreement with The Big New to continue the fabrication. Fabrication work returned slowly due to pandemic restrictions.
- July 2021 – December 2023 production work continued.

o First site visit by Ena Morita and Megumi from Ota Fine Art Studio. o Viewed stainless steel molds and made various amendments to flower stems. o The Big New staff worked with city staff on preliminary engineering drawings and permits.

- Initially installed flush with the ground on a level cement pad, the piece sustained damage due to public interaction.
- To protect the artwork, it was deinstalled, restored, and reinstalled on a newly designed base, consisting of six pillars with dense landscaping to obscure the posts and mitigate public interaction.
- Immediate concerns were observed after the piece was installed. The top clear coat sealant started to peel at different locations.
- A protective fence was installed around the piece to avoid further damage. - The City and Artist are currently in conversation to discuss the next steps. - Covid-19 pandemic put the restoration of the artwork on pause. - Earlier this year representation for the artist reached out to provide a list of preferred fabricators for the restoration work.
