STAFF REPORT
Meeting Date: March 18, 2025
To: Honorable Mayor & City Council
From: Huma Ahmed, City Clerk
Subject: Traffic and Parking Commission Interview Panel Report
INTRODUCTION
The Traffic and Parking (TPC) Interview Panel met on Thursday, February 20, 2025 to interview 5 (five) applicants for one immediate vacancy on the commission. The panel consisted of Vice Mayor Sharona R. Nazarian, PsyD, Councilmember John A. Mirisch, TPC Chair Karen Afra-Maghen and Vice Chair Hadar Geller.
DISCUSSION
The interview panel has recommended Ms. Shabnam (Shelley) Azizi to be considered for the immediate opening on the TPC. She will be installed once the City Council provides formal approval. The new commissioner will take the place of an unscheduled vacancy left by former TPC Commissioner Ron Shalowitz.
The term of the appointment will be for an initial two-years with an opportunity to be reappointed for an additional four years should the City Council approve at that time. Ms.
Azizi’s term will be 3 months longer than the usual so that the commission term can return to its normal cycle.
RECOMMENDATION
It is requested that the City Council approve the recommendation. With the concurrence of the Council, a formal report will be prepared for adoption at the March 18, 2025 City Council Regular Meeting. A background check has been completed for the recommended applicant. Commissioners are expected to schedule their time accordingly and attend meetings at Beverly Hills City Hall.
Interested members of the public are encouraged to apply for upcoming vacancies.
Applicants should also consider participating with the popular Team Beverly Hills program to learn more about City government.
