3. FINE ART FUND
Senior Recreation Supervisor, Paul Paolone, will provide an update on the Fine Art Fund.

Senior Recreation Supervisor, Paul Paolone, provided the most recent financial updates to the Fine Art Fund as of April 30, 2025.
o Total current fund balance: $2,686,708 (an increase from the previous month). o One new In-Lieu Fee received:
▪ $10,350 for 469 N Canon Drive
o Fiscal Year 2024/2025 Year-To-Date In-Lieu Fee Revenue totals $422,553.

4. ACC WORK PLAN (FINE ART)
Assistant Director of Community Services, Patty Acuña, will provide an update for Yayoi Kusama’s Hymn of Life: Tulips sculpture restoration project.

Assistant Director of Community Services, Patty Acuña, provided an update on the sculpture restoration project.
o The fabricator submitted photos of the red flower to Ota Fine Art and Kusama’s representatives for approval.
o Final photos of the red flower were shared, and updates on the purple and yellow flowers will be provided next month.

Commissioners appreciated the updates and photos and inquired about reinforcing the community’s connection to the artwork. Commissioners suggested having the restoration project featured in the media to showcase the restoration process and generate excitement, including creating a poster for the fall Art Show with progress photos of the piece.

Staff will explore these suggestions and provide further updates at the next meeting.

5. ACC WORK PLAN (FINE ART)
Arts & Culture Program Associate, Brandy Scott, will provide a report for Carol Bove’s IO located in Beverly Gardens Park.

Arts & Culture Program Associate, Brandy Scott, reported on the history and recommendations of Carol Bove’s IO, located in Beverly Gardens Park. Key highlights include:
o Selected in 2014 and installed on a cement plinth in 2015, the sculpture was damaged shortly thereafter. In 2019, the City Council recommended reinstalling it on pillars surrounded by landscaping to minimize public interaction; however, the artist demanded the piece be deinstalled and returned to the original flat cement base. A chain link fence was installed in 2020 pending resolution of the base issue, and in 2024, Gagosian Gallery contacted the City regarding future options for the piece. o Staff will present options to the City Council on May 20, 2025:
▪ Restore and reinstall the sculpture on the original plinth at its original location. ▪ Restore and reinstall the sculpture on the original plinth at a less accessible site.

Commissioners appreciated the presentation and supported the piece being returned to the flat concrete base.

Staff confirmed that the flat concrete base is necessary for reinstallation. Due to landscape maintenance needs, the artwork cannot be flush with the ground. Therefore, if the sculpture is removed from the pillars, it would need to be re-installed on the flat concrete base.

Recreation Supervisor, Corrina Lesser, will provide a presentation to discuss the 2025 Festival Beverly Hills.

Recreation Supervisor, Corrina Lesser, presented a summary of suggestions submitted by the Commissioners before the meeting and initiated a discussion on additional recommendations for the 2025 Festival Beverly Hills.
o The third-annual Festival Beverly Hills will be on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Beverly Gardens Park.
o Strategies include engaging audiences with pop-up performances, collaborating with the Los Angeles Consular Corps, and partnering with regional cultural organizations. o Programmatic priorities include:
▪ Maintaining a multicultural focus and showcasing new cultures. ▪ Coordinating marketing efforts with the CVB and local hotels to boost tourism. o The 2024 festival featured 25 unique performances with an honorarium budget of $25,000.

Commissioners engaged in a robust discussion, providing the following suggestions:

Multi-Cultural contributions
o A Multicultural Festival: Commissioners recommended showcasing a diverse array of cultures, including Thai, Swedish, Scottish, Singaporean, Balinese, Indian, Italian, Mexican, Indigenous, European, and celebrations representing the Chinese New Year. They proposed incorporating culinary arts with cooking sessions and a recipe cookbook that highlights dishes from these cultures, including outreach to local restaurants for contributions. Additionally, Commissioners suggested showcasing fashion and cultural attire as a way to reflect the community's diversity and represent the 51 languages spoken by Beverly Hills High School students.

Performance troupes or cultural organizations
o Cultural and Community Partners: Commissioners recommended identifying additional organizations to enhance the festival's offerings. They emphasized establishing partnerships with groups that could benefit Festival Beverly Hills, with World Events like the upcoming Olympics, and local connections in mind. Suggested partners included local cultural organizations, such as Body Traffic, Wallis, MUSE-ique, Music Center, and the Spotlight Awards. Outreach to the Chamber of Commerce and local supermarkets was also recommended to engage community businesses in the event.

Specific performers
o Artists and Performers: Commissioners are aiming for over 25 balanced performances across various genres for the festival. Suggested acts included a photography exhibit, Flamenco performances by Temo Numez, holograms, and dance groups such as the KGB Salsa Dance Group and K-Pop groups. Additional recommendations included Bob Baker Marionettes, various drummers, a Tahitian dance and drumming group, a Cuban band, and showcases of viral dance trends from local academies to enhance the entertainment lineup.

o The Spring Series included four 1-hour guided ArtWalks, with participant enrollment increasing throughout the series, totaling approximately 41 unique guests. o Docent feedback was positive, highlighting diverse age participation. Suggestions included adding registration questions asking how attendees learned about the ArtWalk and offering QR codes for maps. They recommended exploring new tour routes, noting that each tour is unique based on docent interactions. o Outreach ideas included engaging local youth and high school arts programs to enhance knowledge about city art pieces.
o Design options for commemorative keepsakes include "Beverly Hills Heart Art" or "Beverly Hills Heart The Arts" for use on tote bags or baseball caps. o Branding and licensing standards were discussed, including trademark requirements. o Virtual designs and physical samples will be presented at the June meeting.

Vice Chair Beck suggested involving Beverly Hills High School students as assistant docents to lead ArtWalks.

Chair Gordy Bristol preferred the plural "arts" for broader event activations.

Staff will research past Beverly Hills memorabilia and potential partnerships with Beverly Hills High School. They will review the municipal code regarding using the terms "arts" versus "art" and how that can potentially affect the use of Fine Art Fund resources for promotional materials.
