Police Department Report
Acting Captain Renato Moreno introduced Lieutenant Andrew Myers who will be reporting at future Commission Meetings. He informed the Commission that all local school graduations have concluded with no incidents. He was asked to investigate the feasibility of a red-light camera at Robertson and Charleville due to a recent incident. He relayed the accident statistics of the area but did not get the information to make a final determination. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

The Commission commented on the Red Light Camera and Cell Phone Violation statistics and dangerous behaviors of pedestrians that should be noted and enforced. The Commission identified specific locations to be investigated for possible modifications of signage, the use of ebikes and other motorized vehicles, and the increase of Waymo and traffic issues.

Monthly Educational Speaker Series
Transportation Planner Martha Eros introduced Program Manager Tiffany Smith from Vision Zero Network, a national non-profit that helps communities’ advance vision zero, a strategy to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on the roadways and increase safe and equitable mobility for all types of road users. She encouraged all to view previous webinars from her group, listed on their website, for more in depth information. She reviewed speed related and roadway deaths emphasizing the racial and income disparities, and top strategies to manage speed. They led an initiative, received input, and partnered with numerous groups to develop a set of recommendations to promote equity in speed safety camera programs. The report covers prioritizing design-based safety, implementing income-based fine structures or alternative penalties for low-income drivers, monitoring and evaluating the equity impacts, and specific guidelines for speed safety programs. She discussed speed cameras and their data informed placement.

The Commission thanked her for her presentation and agreed with the alternative means to educate about speeding, the use of cameras to manage speed, and the goal of reducing speed limits.

Assistant Director of Public Works/City Engineer Daren Grilley presented a proposed lane striping project designed to improve roadway safety. Resident concerns have reported their Traffic and Parking Commission Regular Meeting Synopsis June 5, 2025
concerns over accidents due to unsafe driving. The enhanced striping will deter excessive vehicle speeding by clearly defining the travel lanes. The Commission commented on the ability to make left-hand turns, the traffic and collisions in the area and considerations for increased enforcement and additional calming measures.

Motion: MOVED by Commissioner Ignarro, SECONDED by Commissioner Geller, to endorse the proposed plan for striping and add some evaluation of the right turn at Tower Drive (4/1).
