INTRODUCTION
This report provides information and requests City Council’s acceptance of contract works indicated below and authorization of the City Clerk to record the Notices of Completion (Attachments 1-3) with the Los Angeles County Recorder.
DISCUSSION
Police Facility Digital Evidence & Records Remodel Project As an effort to create program efficiency and streamline security protocols, the Police Department Records Bureau operations was determined to require adjacency with the Digital Evidence Unit. The records bureau is located on the third floor, and the old digital evidence office was located on the first floor of the Police Facility. The co-location of the two offices has eliminated the need for staff to go between the third and first floors of the building in order to carry out inter-dependent duties.
The project has reconfigured unused space at the records bureau and has created an integrated and secure digital evidence office within the records suite. New public and staff service counters have been installed, supervisors have been moved from open cubicles to a newly remodeled shared office and the cubicles have been transformed into a new secure file storage room containing a high-density shelving system. The project has been inspected by the Fire, Community Development and Public Works Departments, and staff are satisfied that the project complies with all applicable codes and are satisfied that work has been performed consistent with construction documents.
Building Demolition Project at 1959 S. La Cienega Blvd.
The building demolition project consisted of removal of a 5,039 square foot two-story wood framed building, built in 1950. The site is adjacent to City’s water well structure to the west and a 16,000 square foot two story office tenant building currently leased to Maple Counseling Center on the north side. Demolition of the building will allow adequate space for future water well infrastructure or well reconstruction staging area and additional parking to serve the office building when not in use for water infrastructure purposes.
The new parking lot site development design and construction documents have been prepared, permitted and bids have been received. Bid results and the low responsible bid will be presented to the City Council for consideration and approval.
Staff from Public Works inspected the work and are satisfied that work has been performed consistent with construction documents.
Library Carpet Replacement Project – Phase 2
The flooring at the library was original to the last major remodel circa 1990s. The carpet material was a broadloom carpet making the replacement very difficult when soiled or damaged. Since the flooring had reached its life expectancy, a new project was identified to replace carpet in all public areas. A carpet tile material was selected, which makes replacement easier and more efficient to maintain. Due to the large size of the project and to minimize disruption to library operations, the project was divided into two phases. Phase 1 carpet replacement scope covered first floor public areas, customer service staff area and was completed in 2023. The second phase of carpet replacement is complete now; the scope of work included the bookstore on the first floor, public areas, meeting room, auditorium, and library support staff offices on the second floor.
Staff from Public Works and certified manufacturer’s inspector inspected the work and are satisfied that work has been performed consistent with construction documents.
