INTRODUCTION
The Arts and Culture Commission Interview Panel composed of Vice Mayor John A.
Mirisch, Councilmember Mary N. Wells and Arts and Culture Commission (ACC) Chair Pamela Beck and Vice Chair Maralee Beck met on September 11, 2025.
The panel interviewed 13 (thirteen) applicants for two upcoming vacancies on the Arts and Culture Commission.
DISCUSSION
The following candidates are recommended for City Council consideration:
• Anthony (Tony) Krantz
1Former Commissioner Liliana Filipovic (Term end: June 30, 2026) Midterm Appointment Date: October 1, 2025
• Roxana Rastegar
Former Commissioner Deborah Frank (Term end: December 31, 2024) Midterm Appointment Date: October 1, 2025
Per the Commissioners’ Handbook (page 30): “The start and end dates of an appointment will fall on either a January or July schedule.” Since the July appointment date recently passed, the two recruitments will result in midterm appointments. Their terms will align with the July schedule as outlined in the Handbook.
With City Council approval, their initial terms will begin on October 1, 2025. As these are midterm appointments, their terms will be three months shorter than the standard twoyear cycle. As mentioned earlier, they will follow a July 1, 2025 appointment schedule. 1 After being reappointed to an additional four-year term, Former Commissioner Liliana Filipovic’s seat became vacant due to an unplanned departure effective June 30, 2024.
Meeting Date: September 30, 2025
Both candidates will be eligible for a four-year appointment upon the conclusion of their initial terms. They have also successfully completed the City’s required background check. Mr. Krantz is recommended for the most senior vacancy, filling Former Commissioner Liliana Filipovic’s position.
FISCAL IMPACT
None.
RECOMMENDATION
The interview panel recommends that the City Council appoint Anthony (Tony) Krantz and Roxana Rastegar to the Arts and Culture Commission. Due to the midterm appointments, a formal report has been included for adoption on Consent at the September 30, 2025, City Council Formal Meeting.
All the candidates are thanked for their thoughtful and compelling answers to the questions posed by the interview panel. The City of Beverly Hills is fortunate to have an extraordinary applicant pool and the applicants are encouraged to re-apply for upcoming vacancies. Applicants who have not participated in Team Beverly Hills are urged to apply and complete the resident-based education program.
