INTRODUCTION
This item is submitted for City Council information. Since 2006, the City has held an annual all employee training and development day, which is observed on Columbus Day also known as Indigenous Peoples’ Day. This year, the Employee Development Day event will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025.
DISCUSSION
The focus of this year’s event will be Emergency Preparedness related training and education. Employees will have an opportunity to attend two sessions, one on the topic of evacuations and a second on active shooter awareness. Training will be facilitated by subject matter experts from the City’s Police and Fire Departments. These important topics will further prepare employees for different kinds of emergencies, including preparation for an emergency, their role before, during and after an emergency and guidance on critical steps and procedures in emergency situations.
These training opportunities will be held in locations within the Civic Center complex, including the Library Auditorium and Fire Department Headquarters. As in past years, City Hall will be closed from 7:30 am – 2:00 pm. City Hall will reopen for business at 2:00pm.
FISCAL IMPACT
The Human Resources Department annual training budget has funding allocated for this event. The budget includes related costs associated with training, refreshments, and other training related materials.
