DISCUSSION
Street and Alley Improvements FY24/25
This project is consistent with the City Council Strategic Priorities plan goal to maintain public facilities and infrastructure (Goal 5.1). The City utilizes a Pavement Management Program (PMP) to assess the condition of all streets in the City’s 140-mile network and make informed decisions regarding the timing and type of repairs needed. The condition of each street segment is determined through a formula that produces a Pavement Condition Index (PCI). The PCI ranges from 0 to 100 with 100 representing a new street surface and 25 or less being very poor or failed.
The FY24/25 project focused on major repairs to 16 alleys and two streets — including four alleys in the Business Triangle — encompassing pavement repaving, partial reconstruction where needed, and replacement of water meter boxes for compatibility with planned future meter reading system upgrades.
Staff from Public Works inspected the work and are satisfied that work has been performed consistent with standards and construction documents.
Pedestrian Crossing Improvements Project
The Pedestrian Crossing Improvements project improved pedestrian safety at five locations around the City. The project, partially funded by grants through Metro, is consistent with the Complete Streets Action Plan and City Council Strategic Priorities plan goals to improve pedestrian safety and practice environmental stewardship by increasing mobility options. The locations and summary of improvements are outlined below:
Robertson Boulevard and Chalmers Drive: curb extensions and flashing lights; Wilshire Boulevard and Palm Drive: pedestrian signal; 400 Block of N. Camden Drive: curb extensions and flashing lights; 400 Block of N. Bedford Drive: curb extensions and pedestrian signal; and 200 Block of S. Beverly Drive: curb extensions.
Meeting Date: June 9, 2026
Staff from Public Works inspected the work and are satisfied that work has been performed consistent with standards and construction documents.
Pedestrian Crossing Improvements at the Intersection of Lomitas Avenue, Cañon Drive, and Beverly Drive
The Pedestrian Crossing Improvements at the six-way Intersection of Lomitas Avenue, Cañon Drive, and Beverly Drive project is identified as a work plan item in the adopted City Council Strategic Priorities (WP 7.1.2) and follows City Council direction given in March 2023. The project consisted of installation of 12 curb ramps, six crosswalks and rectangular rapid flashing beacons. The scope was also expanded through a change order to address and replace additional deteriorated sidewalk sections identified during construction.
Staff from Public Works inspected the work and are satisfied that work has been performed consistent with standards and construction documents.
