Dear members of the Beverly Hills City Council,
I am writing regarding the discussion of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) at your August 4 City Council meeting.

I respectfully request that the City allow tenants of legally permitted ADUs located in single-family residential neighborhoods to obtain both daytime and overnight residential street parking permits.

Currently, residents of multifamily residential areas in Beverly Hills are eligible to obtain residential parking permits. However, tenants living in ADUs within single-family neighborhoods are not afforded the same opportunity, even though they are legal residents of the City.

This difference in treatment creates an unnecessary hardship for ADU tenants who often have no practical parking alternatives. As the City continues to allow the development of ADUs, these residents should receive reasonable access to residential parking.

If parking permits are available to residents in multifamily neighborhoods, I respectfully ask why the same privilege should not be extended to residents of legally permitted ADUs in single-family residential areas. Providing equal opportunity to access daytime and overnight parking permits would promote fairness, support the City's housing objectives, and improve the quality of life for ADU residents without changing the character of the neighborhoods.

I respectfully urge the City Council to amend its residential parking permit program to include tenants of legally permitted ADUs in single-family residential areas.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and service to our community.

Sincerely,
Rebecca Ghandy
