RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council appoint both Jason Grant and Joshua Greer to the Planning Commission to fill a current and an upcoming vacancy on the commission.
If approved, both candidates will be appointed for an initial two-year term based on the terms provided. Mr. Grant and Mr. Greer will also be eligible for reappointment to a second term of four years per Beverly Hills Municipal Code Section 2-2-105. Mr. Grant will be a mid-year appointment and will follow the July 2026 rotation schedule.
INTRODUCTION
This report transmits a formal request to appoint the following to the Planning Commission for the terms provided:
Mr. Jason Grant
Term: July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2028
Midterm Appointment – Seated Immediately
Seat: Former Commissioner Myra Demeter (Term concluded: June 30, 2026) Mr. Joshua Greer
Term: July 1, 2027 – June 30, 2029
Seat: Outgoing Commissioner Gary Ross (Term concludes: June 30, 2027) Meeting Date: September 22, 2026
DISCUSSION
Staff presented the Planning Commission Interview Panel report to the City Council at the Study Session of September 22, 2026.
With City Council approval, Mr. Grant’s appointment will begin on September 23, 2026. It should also be noted that his initial term will be shortened by three months due to the midyear appointment for this commission.
Mr. Greer will begin his term on July 1, 2027, upon the conclusion of Commissioner Gary Ross’ term. Both candidates are required to attend all Planning Commission meetings leading up to their formal appointments.
The Planning Commission interviews were conducted in an open meeting per the requirements set forth in the Brown Act. This action will approve the appointments presented to the City Council at this meeting.
