INTRODUCTION
The Police Department intends to maintain periodic sobriety enforcement operations during Fiscal Year 2026-27 by conducting DUI and driver license checkpoints, DUI saturation patrols, and special enforcement operations. Under this grant, OTS has agreed to reimburse the City for overtime and travel expenses incurred for conducting authorized grant activities.
DISCUSSION
The City has implemented a public education campaign and enhanced traffic enforcement related to driving while impaired, intoxicated, and/or distracted. Prior grant funding through OTS has supported sobriety and driver’s licensing checkpoint operations. This grant funding will continue to supplement the Police Department’s public safety efforts.
Meeting Date: October 20, 2026
Last year’s OTS grant resulted in the following enhanced enforcement efforts:
Two (2) DUI and driver license checkpoints at various locations in the City Seven (7) DUI saturation patrols
Seven (7) dedicated traffic enforcement details
Numerous traffic safety related media releases
FISCAL IMPACT
An appropriation of $79,000 in the Police Grants Fund (Fund 190) is requested to fund police sobriety enforcement operations, other OTS traffic operations and travel. The City will be reimbursed by OTS for authorized expenditures. No net fiscal impact is anticipated.
