MEETING
DATE: August 11, 2022
TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council
FROM: Erica Stephenson, City Clerk/Director of Human Resources SUBJECT: Approval of a City Manager Employment Agreement
BACKGROUND
On April 4, 2022, the City Council authorized a Professional Services Agreement with Peckham & McKenney for the recruitment of a City Manager. That action initiated an extensive recruitment effort to permanently fill the City Manager position. At the end of July 2022, the City Council interviewed several qualified candidates and have selected the finalist to fill this vital City position.
Since then, the negotiation process for the City Manager employment agreement has been underway, and the final proposed agreement is being drafted as the agenda packet is being prepared. Therefore, the completed employment agreement will be made available for public review at the time of convening open session. Pursuant to the Ralph M. Brown Act, the City Attorney will also orally present the proposed compensation package during the City Council’s open session meeting.
FISCAL IMPACT
A City Manager position is included in the FY 22-23 adopted budget. Sufficient funds are available in the City’s current budget to cover any unanticipated costs associated with this employment agreement (that were unknown upon City Council budget adoption in June 2022), due to salary savings attributed to staffing vacancies throughout the organization.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
None requiring review under California Environmental Quality Act.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that City Council authorize the Mayor to execute the City Manager employment agreement.
