1 SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MINUTES
January 28, 2025, 5:30 p.m.
A. CALL TO ORDER & ROLL CALL
Mayor Meyer called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m.
Roll Call found the following members present: Maloney, Pierson, Mendoza, Oerlemans, and Mayor Meyer.
B. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Mayor Meyer led the Pledge of Allegiance.
C. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Mayor Meyer opened public comments.
Melissa Van Ruiten spoke in support of Kris Brand and Rod Flohr being reinstated to Planning Commission.
Sinziana Todor spoke to Council's responsibility when making appointments to the Planning Commission.
Anita Roberts spoke to being consistent with appointments to the Planning Commission.
Carolina Villaseca spoke in support of reinstating Rod Flohr and Kris Brand to Planning Commission and appointing Jeremy Jones.
There being no additional speakers, Mayor Meyer closed public comments.
D. RECESS TO CLOSED SESSION
City Council recessed at 5:43 p.m. and reconvened in open session at 6:10 p.m.
D.1 CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL - EXISTING LITIGATION Mayor Meyer stated there were no reportable actions from Closed Session.
E. BUSINESS ITEMS
E.1 Interview and consider selection of applicants, and, by motion, make appointments to the Planning Commission
The City Clerk spoke to the appointment process.
2 The City Council interviewed seven applicants: Narayana Krishna, Rod Flohr, Shauna Polk, Brayden Haena, Kristopher Brand, and Jeremy Jones.
Mayor Meyer opened public comments.
Sue Harper submitted an e-mail in support of re-appointing Kris Brand and Rod Flohr to the Planning Commission.
Jeffrey spoke to his work experience as a planner and asked how to improve his chances for an interview next time.
Danny Dohrmann spoke to the Council's selection process.
There being no additional speakers, Mayor Meyer closed public comments.

The City Council, by motion, appointed Rod Flohr to the Planning Commission for a two-year term that expires on December 31, 2026.
Ayes (3): Jovita Mendoza, Council Member, Susannah Meyer, Mayor, and Faye Maloney, Council Member
Noes (2): Pa'tanisha Pierson, Vice Mayor, and Tony Oerlemans, Council Member

The City Council, by motion, appointed Kristopher Brand to the Planning Commission for a two-year term that expires on December 31, 2026.

Noes (2): Tony Oerlemans, Council Member, and Faye Maloney, Council Member
