CAUTION – EXTERNAL SENDER
Brentwood City Council members,
Thank you for everything you are doing representing your constituents.
I am writing to ask for items F4, F5 and F6 to be pulled from consent calendar for the following reasons:
1. Few years ago city council asked city manager to present high ticket items under business items, not bury them in the consent calendar. This is clearly a sign of insubordination.
2. There needs to be a clear explanation where the funds for these items are coming from. It feels like certain projects will be cut in favor of allocating the funding to the named items, and it is imperative to know what those projects are. You approved a budget and looks like city staff keeps undermining your direction. Some of you mentioned recently that all this type of items are constantly dumped on you and it is hard to keep track of them and make good decisions. Since most of you ran on campaigns on financial responsibility and accountability, this is a good opportunity to show that promises made are promises kept.
3. There are serious questions that arise on item F4 - why is the cost of replacing cameras not included on the allocated police budget? Is there an amortization schedule that can be presented to city council to prove that the current assets reached the end of life? What is the reason why we need more cameras installed, when the borders of the city did not expand, the crime rate did not report significant increase, privacy issues with a third party managing and storing the data need to be explained and also how the data collected will be used, etc.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
