Dear Brentwood City Manager, City Council, City Clerk, and Planning Commission:
For more than 100 years, the Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building has stood as the lone designated facility in the city where residents can gather to honor the history of the brave men and women who sacrificed their well-being and lives to defend our democracy at home and humanity around the world. On behalf of the Marine Corps League, Detachment #1122, I ask that you consider renovating or building a fire station at a location different from where the current Veterans Memorial Building stands today.
The Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building also serves as a venue to promote patriotism and foster youth development. Members of the Brentwood community are welcome to celebrate private and public events such as weddings, funerals, memorials, reunions, and retirements, which will unite the community for many more generations to come. None of this can be done at a fire station.
Brentwood community members of the American Legion and Marine Corps League care for the Memorial Building not for the desire of money or vocational benefit; they do it to honor the legacy of those who have served our nation in the past and for those who will serve it in the future. Please confirm your commitment to leaving the Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building intact at its current, historical location.
Thank you, and Semper Fidelis,
Gary Bondaug

CAUTION – EXTERNAL SENDER
Hello Brentwood City Councilpersons,
I'm writing today to regarding Business Item H.3., the review of the Design Review of Fire Station #94. I ask you to choose Option #1 - deny the Project and uphold the Planning Commission's decision.
As you know, the Council has appointed the Planning Commission to analyze projects in Brentwood for compliance with all codes, laws, ordinances, specific plans, etc. Our Planning Commission has exhaustedly analyzed the Project to build Fire Station #94 at 739 First Street, Brentwood, and concluded it does not comply with the aforementioned policies.
During the planning stages of Fire Station #94, there has been a growing number of residents who have expressed their opposition to this Project's location. There is no doubt we need and will build a second Fire Station in the City of Brentwood, but a location other than squeezing the station into an already tight downtown, affecting the normal day-to-day operation of downtown businesses, impacting the Veteran's Hall footprint, and adversely affecting design compatibility as well as the numerous activities that the residents plan for and enjoy downtown - parades, farmer's market, city-wide celebrations, special events - you name it, it just doesn't make sense to build a fire station in the location of 100 years ago. Why are we always expected to consider alternatives for most new builds and yet ConFire has dug in their heels on this location. We have the chance to make it right - let's take that time.
With today's newest fire-fighting apparatuses and personnel, why not choose a location that can grow with Brentwood? Since Sacramento is forcing us to build more and more housing, and with the ever-growing commercial and industrial growth we have long sought coming to fruition, we will eventually have three fire stations. The locations that should possibly be considered right now for the downtown location are: 1) The previously planned location for our Police Station once slated for the corner of Central and Walnut, adjacent to the bus parkn-ride; 2) the planned location on Sand Creek near the Mary Casey Black Elementary School; and 3) perhaps the vacant lot next to the Brentwood Post Office on Oak. All three locations are very close to downtown, but afford more space for the station and less impact on the surrounding area.
At this time, I urge you to deny the Project to build Fire Station #94 at 739 First Street, Brentwood, and uphold the Planning Commission's decision. They have done their job as you expect them to do. You should stand with their decision in this matter.
Thank you,
Kathy Griffin

CAUTION – EXTERNAL SENDER
Dear City Clerk,
The most important issues in deciding where to place a fire station are coverage and response time. Fire Station 94 fails on both. While providing some new areas of fire protection, part of station 94’s coverage overlaps coverage already provided by Station 92 thus leaving parts of Brentwood without sufficient fire protection. It provides little protection for the fastest growing parts of Brentwood. In contrast, the Sand Creek site increases the area of coverage and provides fire protection for the newest and fastest growing parts of Brentwood.
While Fire Station 94 provides a nostalgic, twentieth century solution to a twenty-first century problem, the Sand Creek site positions Brentwood with superior fire protection for the twenty-first century and beyond through increased coverage and better response times.
Thanks,
David Miller

Dear Mayor, And City Council,
I would like to present my opinion on the Downtown Confire Fire Station #94. I have watched many of the comments on zoom in the recent past, about the Downtown Fire Station# 94. The Planning Commission has made many valid points about the denial of the application, and I agree with that decision. Cramming a new Fire Station into a parcel that is a little over 1/4 acre , in a downtown district is absurd. We residents and taxpayers of East Contra Costa County and Brentwood deserve a Fire Station to be functional, comfortable, and serve a purpose for those firefighters who protect us. I don't understand why those in power in Confire, agree to this abomination of a fire station. Ms. Burgis is playing the Veteran Community, Fire District, the City of Brentwood and Contra Costa County all against each other. I believe there are other locations nearby that are more suitable and have better access to the entire East side of Brentwood, that are ALREADY prepped for service to East Brentwood/County residents. This is OUR taxpayer money, we should have a say in where the Fire Station #94 is built.
Sincerely,
Ron

CAUTION – EXTERNAL SENDER
City Council,
I ask the Council to uphold the unanimous vote of the Planning Commission and deny the design review application based on objective criteria for failing to meet Brentwood Municipal Code Section 17.820.007.
What should be a simple procedural matter has been blown out of proportion because of the special interest political status of the applicant.
The rule of law applies to all or to none.
Every applicant should be subject to the same standards of review. It should not matter if the applicant is the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, a church, a real estate developer, a charity group, or a random John Doe. All applicants should receive the same treatment and be required to adhere to the same requirements to obtain approval.
The planning commission went to great lengths to remove the political nature of this item and focus solely on objective design review criteria.
The planning commission voted 4-0 because the application did not meet Brentwood Municipal Code Section 17.820.007.
Any other applicant would be advised to modify the application to address the deficiencies and try again.
However, this is not a regular applicant. Instead of following the procedures required they have decided to use their special interest status and make this a political issue regarding safety. They have used their contacts and resources to provide multiple news stories filled with inaccuracies in an attempt to sway public opinion regarding this design review.
Despite all of their protesting regarding the planning commission ruling there is a glaring flaw in their position which has not been addressed.
The only arguments in favor of this application are based on the special interest political status of the applicant. None of the arguments in favor of this application have attempted to address the problems identified by the planning commission.
When you review this item I ask that you make your decision without giving special status to the applicant.
It should not matter that the applicant is the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District The rule of law applies to all or to none.
Thank you,

Esteemed City Manager, City Attorney and City Council Members, We have recently become aware of the intention to build a new fire station in downtown Brentwood and after researching the plan, we have decided to voice our opinion and concern regarding this endeavor:
1) The location does not seem the most desirable given the environment of the already narrow streets being filled with people attending events (Farmer's Market, Boogie Nights, Concerts, Parades, etc.). This could not only be dangerous but result in slower response times.
2) It is my understanding that the land in question was given to the Veterans specifically for their use. Is there an issue of legality if the land is taken from them? 3) Apparently there is a location on Sand Creek Road that was previously prepared for a station but because of lack of funds the station was not built. If this location is no longer viable, certainly there should be a consideration of placing the station a little further removed from the station on John Muir Road.
4) Brentwood is continuing to grow, and we have not seen any evaluations addressing which area of the city presently requires the most assistance from personnel at the fire station. Perhaps that should be a prime consideration in determining location.
5) We most definitely need another fire station, but I would like the population to be made aware of what measures have been taken to ensure that we are receiving the best location and function for our investment.
Thank you,
Walt and Suzanne Cook

Dear Mayor and Members of the Brentwood City Council,
I am writing as a concerned resident and strong supporter of the Brentwood Planning Commission's unanimous 4-0 decision to deny the permit application for Fire Station 94 in its currently proposed downtown location.
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District's application failed to comply with key provisions of the Brentwood Downtown Specific Plan — a plan developed through years of public input, professional analysis, and careful policymaking to guide responsible development in our city.
In addition to these planning violations, I want to bring your attention to a critical legal issue:
the proposed project requires the County to violate state law by taking land that was legally dedicated exclusively for veterans' use. This land was acquired under a special tax provision and deeded with restrictions for a veterans' memorial and meeting place. The Brentwood Planning process does not currently include mechanisms to uncover such legal dedications, but veterans have made the City aware of this serious oversight.
To approve an application that not only violates adopted planning standards but also infringes upon property reserved for veterans would be a grave error — one that invites legal challenges and undermines public trust in both city and county leadership.
I fully support the Planning Commission's diligent, thoughtful, and legally appropriate decision. I urge you to uphold their vote and stand with Brentwood residents, our veterans, and the rule of law.
Please protect our city's sovereignty, our planning integrity, and our moral and legal commitments to those who have served.

Good day all
First I'm excited to tell you that I had a conversation with a RESPECTED Oakland Fire Chief regarding his thoughts on the proposed fire station
He looked at the property. He looked at the alternative site. To say he was dumbfounded is an understatement. I explained to him the process of submitting his comments to each of you individually and through this email. I expect him to give you his PROFESSIONAL comments.
He's not only been a Fire Battalion Chief, but he has personally been involved in a firehouse retrofit and on the FRONT LINES of the Oakland Hills fire Now, my comment
Before I begin, I want to make this clear. My comments, both here and other public and private forums are mine and mine alone. I am not obligated to any organization. Nor do I speak upon any single individual. Any organization or individual who agrees with me, either whole or in part, is solely their prerogative
My thoughts are on the record. This comment is to address the only thing the council body has to decide
Whether or not the Planning Commission was correct in their decision to deny CCC Fire's design as submitted on May 26th
Specifically to Mr Oerlemans. Again. This agenda item is STRICTLY geared towards the commission's decision regarding any and all pertinent information provided by staff, CCC Fire, or any other agency PRIOR AND UP TO MAY 26th
Not to any design submitted AFTER May 26th
Not another SITE location
Not the Veteran's grievances
Not any or all pressure from the supervisor and the Back Room ELITES from CCC Fire, the union, or anyone else
The Design is only your concern. It was the decision of denying the design was the reason Mr Oerlemans pulled the item for EXPEDITED REVIEW
The OVERALL parameters contained and constraints provided by CCC Fire. This is what your commission, the people YOU appointed, denied. To discuss anything outside of these parameters may be construed as evidence that you do not respect your commission, your constituency, or the statutes and other appropriate standards approved by the City of Brentwood
Any attempt to steer the conversation outside of the commission's decision may be used as evidence of violations of your oaths of Office. Any attempts to use alternative locations, previous and current concerns between the veterans and county, and other out of scope rationale will be immediately reported to the appropriate governing body, irrespective of your decision

Dear Mayor and Members of the Brentwood City Council,
As a Veteran who works directly with those who have served, I can attest to the fact that many veterans face significant challenges upon returning to civilian life. Whether those struggles are physical, emotional, or social, organizations that serve veterans play a critical role in providing the support systems they need to reintegrate and thrive.
I was heartened to learn that Brentwood has a facility dedicated exclusively to veterans—open to all, regardless of when they served or under what circumstances. Spaces like these are not only vital lifelines for those struggling with PTSD, depression, or isolation, they are symbols of our community’s respect and gratitude.
What deeply troubles me is the County’s current effort to repurpose a portion of this veterans‐dedicated property for a fire station. This violates the intent and restrictions of the California Military and Veterans Code, which was designed to ensure that land dedicated for veterans remains in their service. This is not a minor administrative oversight, it is a breach of trust and law.
I urge you in the strongest terms: uphold the unanimous decision of the Brentwood Planning Commission. Protect the integrity of our veterans' property and the rights of all who depend on it.
Respectfully,

I’m writing as a proud trans woman and the sister of a transgender veteran who served this country with honor and integrity—despite facing discrimination and hostility both during and after his service. Like so many LGBTQ+ people, my brother endured rejection, threats, and even policylevel exclusion from the very institutions he swore to protect. He stayed anyway, because he believed in the ideals America could stand for.
Now, I’m watching our local government prepare to take land that has been sacred to veterans for over a century—land that was promised, dedicated, and built for their healing, their connection, and their community. This isn’t just a parcel on a map. This is a place where veterans can feel seen. And for trans veterans—who are often marginalized even within the veteran community—places like this are essential.
Let’s not forget: after World War I, spaces like the Brentwood Veterans Hall became a refuge for those suffering from what we now understand as PTSD. These places saved lives. Today, we’re in another crisis—one of veteran suicides, of loneliness, and yes, of systemic mistreatment of trans people. My brother has endured all three.
Please don’t let this building and its grounds become collateral damage in a rush to approve a project that has viable alternatives. The Sand Creek site exists. It was made for this. But this Hall? This was made for veterans.
All of them. Including trans veterans—past, present, and future.
I hope this Hall is still here in another hundred years, standing strong for the next generation of warriors who need a place to feel safe. Please protect it now.
Respectfully,
Chloe Hester

CAUTION – EXTERNAL SENDER
City Clerk,
Please include the following the Public Comment For the June 10 Meeting.
For 9 years I was a Director for the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ECCFPD), during which time I participated in the negotiation with the County to annex ECCFPD into Con Fire. Part of that negotiation included a commitment to establish 6 fire stations in the ECCFPD area. There is no question of the need for Station 94 (formerly known as 54); the question is where it should be located.
The current Station 94 location was established in the 1920s when Brentwood was not yet incorporated, and the area population was about 7,500. I am sure that was a great step forward at that time. However, today much has changed. The Town of Brentwood has a population of approximately 65,000 people, many of whom do not live downtown. While the current Station 94 location is in the center of town, it must serve more than the downtown area. I do not believe the current location is the best location for today's needs:
This site is small and does not meet the ECCFPD standards established for new stations.
The location is an impaired-access location.
Adjoining streets are frequently closed due to farmer’s markets, Parades, celebrations, etc.)
There are often very populous events causing traffic and pedestrian congestion.
Liberty High School causes access constraints.
The Town Hall located close by is a frequent center of well-attended gatherings impacting traffic.
The need for and locations of stations was studied in 2006 and 2016. Both studies looked at various locations for Station 94. The options considered and recommended were somewhat constrained by the financial condition of ECCFPD and urban limits. While a definitive answer was not forthcoming, there was some indication that moving southeast may be beneficial.
I believe the best step forward is to update these outdated studies and determine the best location for Station 94 under today’s conditions. I urge the City Council and the County to move forward together, by updating the response study to reflect the current conditions, identifying potential sites that are of adequate size with better accessibility, and providing the best response to the entire service area.
Thank You,
Joe Young

CAUTION – EXTERNAL SENDER
Dear Mayor and Members of the Brentwood City Council,
Tonight, you face a critical decision: whether to uphold or overturn the Planning Commission’s unanimous vote to deny the design permit for Fire Station 94. While the application is framed as a design issue, this matter runs much deeper.
As veterans and taxpayers, we are compelled to speak up because:
The proposed design does not comply with the Downtown Specific Plan.
The fire district has failed to conduct meaningful, forward-looking planning.
The design requires the taking of land dedicated exclusively to veterans, a clear violation of the original purpose and legal dedication.
This is not just about design, or we wouldn't be talking about alternate locations like Sand Creek.
Why mention Sand Creek?
1. Because we don’t want to offer problems without solutions.
2. Because it's wrong to frame this as a false choice between public safety and legal/ethical obligations — Sand Creek allows us to protect both.
3. Because Sand Creek is shovel-ready, city-planned, and positioned for the future growth of Brentwood.
About the planning process:
The Citygate report, often cited in defense of the downtown location, is outdated and incomplete.
It fails to account for 15,000 new residents since 2014, and the 10,000 more expected soon.
It does not consider changes to downtown street configuration, traffic flow or future congestion.
It creates overlapping 4-minute response zones with Station 92, while neglecting major parts of Brentwood, including central and northwest neighborhoods.
While in operation, fire station 54 had the slowest response times.
As a taxpayer, I find this level of planning unacceptable. East County deserves first-rate emergency services, not second-best shortcuts.
Why are the veterans leading this?
Because we were entrusted with stewarding this property for future generations. And we are alarmed to see:
The County and Fire District ignoring legal land use commitments, pushing the City to ignore its own rules.
The taking of land that was legally and morally dedicated to veterans’ use, without compensation, process, or transparency.
We provided a letter from our attorney explaining that the County violated state law by transferring the property to the Fire District.
We started this journey trying to protect the legacy of veterans. What we discovered was a bureaucracy willing to bully, cut corners, and ignore its own rules.
If you vote to overturn the Planning Commission:
You are voting against veterans (California Military and Veterans Code).
You are voting against the Downtown Specific Plan.
You are voting against Brentwood taxpayers and the long-term best interest of public safety.
You are voting for an ill-planned project that avoids accountability.
We urge you — uphold the Planning Commission’s 4-0 decision. Show our community that Brentwood respects the rule of law, responsible planning, and its veterans.

CAUTION – EXTERNAL SENDER
Dear Mayor and Members of the Brentwood City Council,
I am writing as a concerned resident and strong supporter of the Brentwood Planning Commission's unanimous 4-0 decision to deny the permit application for Fire Station 94 in its currently proposed downtown location.
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District's application failed to comply with key provisions of the Brentwood Downtown Specific Plan — a plan developed through years of public input, professional analysis, and careful policy making to guide responsible development in our city.
In addition to these planning violations, I want to bring your attention to a critical legal issue: the proposed project requires the County to violate state law by taking land that was legally dedicated exclusively for veterans' use. This land was acquired under a special tax provision and deeded with restrictions for a veterans memorial and meeting place.

Sincerely,

Honorable Mayor and City Council,
The Design review for Fire Station 94 could quite possibly be the most contentious item for this council for the remainder of the calendar year. This weight carries a heavy responsibility to ensure all factors are considered within the scope of the decision. Questions you may ask yourselves may be:
- Is the design consistent with all applicable documentation from the city? (General Plan, Downtown Specific Plan, Commercial and Industrial Design Standards, etc) - If not, what design aspects are incompatible and why? For those in disagreement with non-compliance design aspects, state your case as to why. Stay on topic. - Are you considering using an "emergency urgency" argument similar to that of the Patriot Act, Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, or Reagan's Immigration Amnesty act? (i.e. We need more fire service now so look the other way on some other issues) If so, how heavy are you weighing the short term fulfillment of more immediate fire services over a potentially permanent structural impediment in the Downtown Core region? - How do you sit with the dispute between the County and the Veterans? Does it factor in your decision? If so, find the strongest argument against your understanding and see how it fits.
After speaking with a few Walnut Creek residents yesterday, I have it on good authority that a "yes" vote will help earn an unknown councilmember a seat at the county supervisor's table in the future. There are a few likely possibilities in my mind between Councilman Oerlemans (for pulling the item so willfully sought after by Supervisor Burgis), Vice-Mayor Pierson (current position as support staff of Anamarie Farias, very well connected to Burgis), or Councilwoman Maloney (Appointed to the CCC Women and Girls commission after losing the D1 election to Councilwoman Mendoza in 2020). If any of this carries even an ounce of merit, we will find out and the furthering of your political career will become steeper than any slope imaginable.
Remember, this decision is a Design Review. This is about the compatibility of the design with a series of documents. You can think of it literally like a grammar school equation; plug in the numbers and see if it equals out. The Planning Commission highlighted many relevant facts based on design reality and not scare tactics from either side (I want the 3 hours of my life back after watching that). Keep the discussion simple and limited to the design only.
Brentwood has the opportunity to shine tonight. Go forward and represent your community with pride. Please don't disappoint us.
P.S: I saw the video Mr. Dohrman posted about Councilman Oerlemans' questions to the planning commission appointees this year. All the city documents are the law, even if they disagree with your personal beliefs. Let's see how you negotiate your own purity test.

Dear Honorable Members of the Brentwood City Council,
On behalf of the San Jose Fire Fighters, I write to express our strong support for the immediate construction of Fire Station 94 in East Brentwood.
Many of our firefighters and their families live in Brentwood. While we proudly serve communities across California — protecting lives, homes, and the environment — we also expect our families, neighbors, and friends to be afforded the same level of protection in their own neighborhoods.
Delaying Fire Station 94 would:
Leave East Brentwood without equitable fire coverage
Push completion to 2029 or later
Increase project costs due to evolving permitting and regulatory requirements This is not merely a development project — it is a critical investment in public safety. Every day this station is delayed increases the risk to lives, homes, and natural resources in the region.
We respectfully urge the City Council to:
Approve the construction of Fire Station 94 without further delay Maintain the planned location and project timeline

As a resident of Discovery Bay I’m writing to express my strong support for the construction of Fire Station 94 in Downtown Brentwood. Currently, Brentwood’s limited fire resources mean that my community’s firefighters are frequently dispatched to cover emergencies there, leaving us vulnerable.
Brentwood’s growing population and high emergency call volume demand additional local fire stations. Without Station 94, our crews will continue to be pulled away, stretching resources thin and risking increased response times for all of us in East County.
Approving this new station is essential not only for Brentwood’s safety but for the well-being of our entire region. I urge the City Council to move forward with this important project.

The personnel for this station have been hired, the engine for the station has been delivered, the property is construction ready AND THE CITIZENS ARE IN NEED.
I recall a pallet yard fire a number of years ago on a windy day, when SIX STATIONS WERE STAFFED and the fire impacted the fire service county wide. We were so short of resources that we had an engine from Tracy covering Discovery Bay and an engine from San Ramon covering Brentwood. Basically, the East end of the County had NO RESOURCES FOR OVER 30 minutes.

Dear Mayor and Members of the City Council,
On behalf of the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce, I am writing to express our strong support for the proposed fire station in Downtown Brentwood. Public safety is a foundational pillar of a vibrant and thriving community, and we believe this project is not only timely, but necessary for the continued well-being of our city.
As outlined in our Public Policy Platform, the Chamber is committed to supporting collaborative efforts to address crime, violence, and property damage in order to ensure a safe and stable environment for both residents and businesses. The presence of a centrally located fire station enhances emergency response capabilities, increases public safety, and supports the infrastructure needed to accommodate our city’s growth.
We are aware that the Brentwood Planning Commission recently denied the proposed design for Fire Station 94. While we respect the process and the importance of thoughtful development, we also urge the City Council to keep the broader vision in mind—one that prioritizes community safety and long-term resilience.
The need for this station is well-documented. As Supervisor Diane Burgis recently emphasized, Fire Station 94 is not just about proximity—it is a critical component of meeting emergency response standards that protect life and property. Delays in emergency response times can have devastating impacts, especially in the heart of our community where residents and businesses are most concentrated.
Furthermore, as an organization representing local business leaders, we encourage the city to engage our members and the broader business community in community-wide safety initiatives.
We believe this station will be a cornerstone of such collaboration, serving as both a practical asset and a symbol of the City’s commitment to public welfare.
We appreciate the City Council’s leadership on this important matter and ask that you consider the broader implications of the project for Brentwood’s continued growth and safety. The Chamber stands ready to partner in advancing this initiative and promoting a shared vision of a secure, connected, and thriving Brentwood.

Dear Honorable Mayor Meyer and Council Members:
The Contra Costa Building and Construction Trades Council, representing 20 affiliated unions with over 35,000 union workers across Contra Costa County, wishes to share our strong support for the construction of Fire Station 94 in Downtown Brentwood.
Simply put, Brentwood is growing, and emergency response demands are increasing every year.
That’s why Fire Station 94 fills a major gap in Brentwood’s emergency coverage and must be built now – and at the planned location. Downtown Brentwood currently has some of the highest number of calls for emergency services in East Contra Costa County. The downtown site under consideration for Fire Station 94 is located in the center of a densely populated area that experiences high demand for emergency services. Building the station at the proposed site will dramatically lower emergency response times by allowing firefighters to rapidly deploy to incidents. Otherwise, the City of Brentwood and all of East Contra Costa County will continue to face even lower response and unequal fire protection which puts the community at risk.
The current location was selected using modern response data. Other locations were in fact studied, but the downtown location was selected by fire professionals as the superior choice.
There’s a reason why this site was in operation as a fire station for nearly 100 years (1929-2014), and that is because the central downtown location is vital to public safety. This isn’t just a construction project – rather, it is the restoration of life-saving services near the core of the city that our community needs today, not years from now. New permitting and design requirements will drive up taxpayer costs and provide inferior coverage. More importantly, redesigning or relocating wastes time and puts lives at risk. The ability to quickly respond to emergencies can be the difference between life and death. In many situations, every second counts for an emergency responder to arrive on scene. The proposed Fire Station 94 will allow firefighters to effectively respond to emergencies to protect Brentwood and save lives.
It is apparent after reviewing the Staff Report that the Planning Commission overreached in its denial of this application. The Staff Report is abundantly clear that this project is consistent with the General Plan (Table 1), Downtown Specific Plan (Table 2), applicable Zoning standards for non-residential uses in the Downtown (Table 4), and Downtown Specific Plan Development Regulations (Table 5). Despite the Planning Commission’s egregious and blatant disregard for Fire Station’s 94 compliance with all applicable guidelines, the good news for the residents of Brentwood and East Contra Costa County is the fact that the Brentwood City Council has an opportunity to correct this error. In addition to your broader mandate which must prioritize public safety, as elected policy makers you have both the responsibility and legal obligation to follow your own General Plan, Specific Plan, Zoning, and Development Regulation standards.
Year after year, we see the devastation wildfires can bring to our communities and the heroism of firefighters up and down the state who responded to the call to protect life and property. Due to the growing danger, it Is becoming increasingly difficult for homeowners and business owners to even secure insurance due to the dangers we are facing. We pray that our community escapes this type of devastation, but we all must be prepared and follow the advice of fire protection professionals who keep us safe.
In closing, the Contra Costa Building and Construction Trades Council strongly urges the City Council to support the Staff recommendation to move forward with the project without further delay. Please vote Yes for the station, Yes for the location and Yes for public safety.

Dear Mayor Meyer;
The Contra Costa Labor Council, AFL-CIO, representing 86 affiliated unions with over 85,000 union workers across Contra Costa County, wishes to share our strong support for the construction of Fire Station 94 in Downtown Brentwood.
Firefighters are experienced professionals who have trained and work tirelessly to keep our community safe in times of crisis. It is our belief that their professional recommendations should be acknowledged to ensure public safety. Now is not the time to play politics or let personal grievances get in the way of the community’s safety.
Downtown Brentwood now has some of the highest number of calls for emergency services in East Contra Costa County. The downtown site under consideration for Fire Station 94 is located in the center of a densely populated area that experiences high demand for emergency services. Building the station at the proposed site will dramatically lower emergency response times by allowing firefighters to rapidly deploy to incidents.
The ability to quickly respond to emergencies can be the difference between life and death. In many situations, every second counts for an emergency responder to arrive on scene. The proposed Fire Station 94 will allow firefighters to effectively respond to emergencies to protect Brentwood and save lives.
For over a decade East Contra Costa has been in desperate need of improved fire protection. That is why in 2020 the Contra Costa Labor Council was proud to work with many different community nonprofits and local leaders to pass Measure X to provide additional funding for fire and emergency response services.
Construction of a new station at the Downtown Brentwood location under consideration fulfills this vision in a timely manner and allows firefighters to meet the growing emergency response needs of the Contra Costa Labor Council, AFL-CIO ⧫ PO Box 389, Martinez, CA 94553 ⧫ (925) 357-9447 community recognized by voters. The location of Fire Station 94 is the fastest and most cost-effective way to reduce emergency response times in Brentwood.
Year after year, we see the devastation wildfires can bring to our communities and the heroism of firefighters up and down the state who responded to the call to protect life and property. We pray that our community escapes this type of devastation, but we all must be prepared and follow the advice of professionals who keep us safe.
Our professional firefighters are telling us the proposed Fire Station 94 at the Downtown location under consideration is essential to improving fire and emergency medical services for the residents of Brentwood. We strongly urge the City Council’s support for the project without future delay.

Dear Council:
Given you have 50 pages of public comments at the time of submitting this, I will spare you a long-winded email as to why the station should be approved. Approve the design review, and lets move forward. Brentwood cannot wait until 2029 until the next station is built given the recent growth and future growth of the area. Personally, the brick is a solid upgrade from the tan building that was their prior.

CAUTION – EXTERNAL SENDER
City Council,
I don’t have a preference as to station location. However, the city worked hard to get Sand Creek Road extended to create a faster route to the Kaiser facility. It would be a shame if the location of the new fire station increases first responder response time and the time it takes to get patients to Kaiser for care.
Thank you for listening.
