Lori Cook Brentwood, CA 94513 – Resident since August 2000 ATTN: CITY COUNCIL - PUBLIC COMMENT 01-13-26
RE: Urgent Request for Traffic Calming Measures at intersection of Central Avenue/Valley Green Drive, intersection of Minnesota Ave/Central Ave and Central Avenue to Balfour Road.
Dear Mayor, City Council Members
I am writing to you as a concerned resident of District 1, specifically of Valley Green Drive at Central Avenue intersection, the intersection of Minnesota Avenue and Central Avenue and Minnesota Avenue from Central Avenue to Balfour Road. I formally request immediate attention to the escalating issue of excessive speeding and red light running in our area. Over the past year, residents have observed a significant increase in vehicles and E-bikes traveling well above the posted speed limit, running the red light at Minnesota and Central Avenue, creating a dangerous environment for pedestrians, cyclists, and families.
Our neighborhood serves as a vital space for young children walking to and from school. Currently, the lack of effective traffic controls has allowed Central Avenue at Valley Green Drive, intersection of Minnesota Ave and Central Ave to Balfour Road to be used as a high-speed road for commuters, E-bikes, etc.
To address these safety concerns, I urge the City Council to consider the following solutions:
A Traffic Study: Conduct a formal evaluation of vehicle speeds and volumes in our neighborhood to document the extent of the problem.
Traffic Calming Measures: Implement physical interventions such as speed humps, lighted crosswalk and/or speed feedback signs.
Increased Enforcement: Request targeted patrols by the Traffic Division during peak speeding hours before and after school and general commute times.
Improved Signage: Install additional signage or highly visible speed limit markers.
We want to ensure our streets remain a community asset where residents feel safe to socialize and move freely.
Thank you for your time and your dedication to the safety of our community.
Sincerely,
Lori A. Cook

RE: Urgent Request for Traffic Calming Measures on Central Avenue, Valley Green Drive, Minnesota Ave from Central Ave to Balfour Road.
Dear Mayor, City Council Member Faye Maloney (District 1) I am writing to you as a concerned resident of Valley Green Drive at Central Avenue intersection, the intersection of Minnesota Avenue and Central Avenue and Minnesota Avenue from Central Avenue to Balfour Road. I formally request immediate attention to the escalating issue of excessive speeding in our area. Over the past year, residents have observed a significant increase in vehicles traveling well above the posted speed limit, creating a dangerous environment for pedestrians, cyclists, and families.
Our neighborhood serves as a vital space for young children walking to and from school. Currently, the lack of effective traffic controls has allowed Central Avenue at Valley Green Drive to be used as a highspeed road for commuters, parents taking their kids to school, residents and guests. We live on the apex at the corner of Valley Green and Wildberry. This is a blind corner for drivers travelling NW-N towards Central Ave. Many times speeders travelling the corner make it dangerous for us and our immediate neigbors to exit our driveway safely. In addition, we often like to walk our grandchildren to the neighorhood park at Stonehaven Dr acrossed Central from Valley Green Dr and it is scary and difficult to dodge traffic travelling on 4 lanes of Central Ave with no crosswalks or traffic controls.
To address these safety concerns, I urge the City Council to consider the following solutions:
A Traffic Study: Conduct a formal evaluation of vehicle speeds and volumes in our neighborhood to document the extent of the problem. I would like to see the posted speed limit on Valley Green Drive be reduced to 20mph instead of the currently posted 25mph.
Research indicates that slower vehicle speeds significantly increase the survival rate of pedestrians in the event of an accident. We want to ensure our streets remain a community asset where residents feel safe to socialize and move freely.
Thank you for your time and your dedication to the safety of our community.
Sincerely,
Mark Reitz

I am requesting a crosswalk with a light Similar to what they have at the trail on Central. The flashing light quickly shows that there’s someone who will be crossing and allows the vehicle to stop in time.
Research indicates that slower vehicle speeds significantly increase the survival rate of pedestrians in the event of an accident. We want to ensure our streets remain a community asset where residents feel safe to socialize and move freely Thank you for your time and your dedication to the safety of our community.

Tracy Kasamoto
I have previously written an email giving a heads up with our attention to attend the 1/13/26 meeting.
We have two people (maybe 3) who will be addressing specific recommendations as to Valley Green.
As previously mentioned, there is a city wide problem. Perhaps, with the lack of police potrol, they get used to reckless driving without consequence.
I realize that police can't be everywhere however, I am curious how many tickets are issued. I am not criticizing the police at all. They are very responsive and professional. I appreciate them . However, there's only so much they can do if they are short handed.
I don't understand how it got this bad. I have only been here 3 years and I have NEVER seen such behavior as much as I routinely see in this city. It's mind blowing.
