Attachments: Pickleball Letter.pdf
This email is being addressed to Amanda McVey, the City Clerk of Brentwood, CA. I am cc'ing the Brentwood City Council, Acting City Manager Terrance Davis, Parks and Recreation Director Harith Aleem, and Parks Manager Aaron Wanden.

I would like to make a public comment for the City Council Meeting that will occur at 7:00pm on Tuesday October 13. This comment relates to the Creekside pickleball courts.

I urge the city council to put the Creekside pickleball courts on the agenda for the next city council meeting (October 27), as the City Council voted on Sept 21 to immediately close the Creekside Pickleball Courts without providing appropriate notice to the public and opportunity for public comment.

Both a plain reading of the agenda for that Sept 21 meeting and a careful, technical reading of that same agenda, would lead a reader to believe that the items under consideration were (A) a new pickleball facility with 6 permanent courts and (B) possible changes to creekside courts once those 6 new pickleball courts are built.

There is no mention in the agenda of temporary courts at Sunset park and no mention of the possibility of immediately closing the pickleball courts at Creekside. The many Brentwood citizens who enjoy the pickleball courts at Creekside park (myself included) would have a lot to say about both of those issues, but we did not know that either of them was under discussion or consideration.

Please put the pickleball courts at Creekside on the agenda for October 27 and allow the public the opportunity to provide appropriate input regarding the near term future of the Creekside Pickleball Courts.

I am attaching to this email a letter that I wrote to the city council with more details about what was written in the agenda for the Sept 21 City Council Meeting and what could have been different if the agenda had provided notice that immediate closure of the Creekside pickleball courts was a possibility. Please include that letter as part of my public comment so it can be part of the public record.

Additionally I urge the City Council and staff to find ways to allow memebers of the pickleball community to work positively and productively with the city regarding near-term and long-term pickleball endeavors.

Thank you for your service to our city.

All the best,
Aaron Hill
Dear Members of the City Council,
On Monday, September 23, the City Council of Brentwood voted to immediately close the Creekside pickleball courts. There are two aspects of this process that I find extremely concerning.

1. The public did not receive notice that the courts could be immediately closed.

On the morning of September 23, I learned that one of the agenda items for the Brentwood City Council meeting that evening involved pickleball. Here is the text of that agenda item.1 I also read the 9-page document prepared by the Parks and Recreation department about that agenda item, which also appears in the City Council Agenda2. The majority of that document focuses on the possible construction of a new pickleball facility with 6 permanent courts on Elkins way3, but there is a small section at the end about the future of the Creekside courts. Here is the entirely of that section.4
It was clear to me that the City Council might make important decisions about the future of Creekside park, including removing the courts, but that such action would be taken after the 1See page 3 (of 400) of the City Council Agenda for Sept 23, 2026 2See pages 355-363 of the Agenda
3See pages 358-363 of the Agenda
4See page 363 of the Agenda
construction of the new pickleball courts. Everything in the 9 pages written in the Parks and Recreation document led me to believe that the “new pickleball facility” mentioned in that section was the 6-court permanent complex which was the main focus of the document (not a sloped, asphalt parking lot with painted pickleball lines).

I had previous plans with my wife and daughter for the evening of Sept 21 (to see the USAF Commanders Jazz Band in Antioch). The three of us voted on whether to attend the concert we had been planning on or to instead attend the Brentwood City Council Meeting. The majority voted to continue with our concert plans. If I had known that the City Council was considering the immediate closure of the Creekside pickleball courts, I would have attended the meeting and made a public comment.

2. Options that balance the concerns of all community members were not considered.

I can understand that not every person experiences the same joy that I do when hearing the ping of a pickleball paddle making contact with the pickleball. In all seriousness, I think the house on the corner closest to the Creekside courts gets the worst of that sound. I sympathize with their complaints. That said, there are so many possible ways that the concerns of some neighbors could be balanced with the positive benefits of the Creekside pickleball courts. Here are just a few of them. • Reduce the hours of operation to 7:00am to noon, daily. • Close the courts Monday - Thursday, but open them Friday - Sunday. • Forbid plastic pickleballs, only allowing quiet foam balls, which are nearly silent.

These options (and others) have pros and cons. They all strive to balance the wholesome benefits of exercise and community that the courts currently offer, while greatly reducing the noise that some neighbors have been complaining about. None of these options were considered by the Council before their vote to immediately close the Creekside pickleball courts.

A Path Forward:

Is there a good way forward? I believe so. First, the City Council should revisit the current status of the Creekside courts. This should happen because the public was not given adequate notice about the possibility of immediately closure and because good alternatives, which balance the concerns of some neighbors with the benefits of the existing courts, were not given adequate consideration. I hope the City Council will put this as an agenda item for the upcoming meeting on October 13.

Second, there should be ways that the pickleball community can work together with the city in a positive and productive way. Perhaps there could be a town hall where this item was discussed and all voices who wished to be heard could have their say. Perhaps some members of the pickleball community could sit down with the Mayor and discuss the pros and cons of various options. Perhaps we could meet with staff to discuss the feasibility of implementing various options.

I hope that as time moves inexorably forward that we can move forward in positive collaboration as citizens and leaders of a city and community that means a great deal to each of us.

Subject: Against Closure of creekside pickleball court
Date: Monday, October 12, 2026 12:54:42 AM
Dear Mayor and City Council Members,
I am writing as a local resident, I formally log my strong opposition to the proposed closure of the Creekside Pickleball Courts. While I acknowledge the grievances raised by a small number of adjacent neighbors, a complete shutdown of this facility would allow a few isolated complaints to override the immense, life-changing health and social benefits enjoyed by the vast majority of our community—including the youth and seniors.

The profound value of pickleball lies in its universal accessibility—it is one of the rare sports that brings everyone together. For residents like me, the Creekside courts provide a safe, positive, and affordable place to stay active, hang out with friends, and connect with neighbors of all generations. On any given day, you will see youth playing alongside seniors, sharing their knowledge about the sports, and building a real community. In a time when everyone says teenagers/youth spend too much time on screens, taking away a thriving outdoor space that keeps us healthy and engaged would be a massive step backward for our city's youth.

Furthermore, living adjacent to a public park comes with an inherent, well-understood tradeoff: you enjoy beautiful green spaces, but you also accept the ambient sounds of community life, sports, and recreation. The Creekside park and its recreational footprint existed long before these homes were purchased. The complaining residents chose to buy property next to a public park with full knowledge of its purpose. It is fundamentally unreasonable for a few homeowners to expect a bustling civic asset to act as their private, silent backyard.

Capitulating to these demands sets a highly dangerous and destructive precedent for municipal planning. If the City shuts down these courts due to noise complaints, it opens a slippery slope where any park activity becomes vulnerable to erasure. It paves the way for future demands to silence children playing on playgrounds, dogs barking at the dog park, or cheering crowds at youth sports games. Public parks are meant for public activity, not enforced silence.

The Creekside courts are a highly utilized, vital hub serving over 300 active local residents.

These courts represent a significant investment of taxpayer funding allocated for public recreational use. Closing a publicly funded asset that serves the greater community to satisfy a handful of complaints constitutes a clear misuse of community resources. It penalizes a vibrant, active majority rather than constructively managing shared public space. Rather than allowing a total shutdown, I urge the City to implement actionable, proven compromises that protect the peace of nearby homeowners without stripping the broader public of a cherished resource.

Democratic governance of public spaces should favor the maximum benefit for the community while reasonably mitigating localized impacts. I respectfully request that this letter be entered into the official public record for the upcoming council session, and that the City choose a balanced compromise over an outright closure.

I respectfully ask that you reconsider the September 21st directive, meet directly with the players and neighborhood stakeholders at the park, and choose a path forward that protects our public investments and honors the entire Brentwood community.

Sincerely,
Angeli Pepito

The council’s 3 reasons to close Creekside park pickleball courts (opened Aug 2024, 14 months old) are fixable for $55k at real city pricing. Not $1.7M and not 2 years with zero courts at 2251 Elkins Way vacant lot.

CLAIM 1 - Parking:Claim: Residents complain about parking.

Fix: $20k - City owns lawn west of lot. It's not big, but you can fit 2-3 pull-in spaces 20ft in. $3k grading + $8k concrete + $2k striping + $7k permit/prevailing wage = $20k real city cost. Not 12 spaces, honest 2-3 spaces for 5pm-8pm peak. Shows good faith. Done in 1 week.

CLAIM 2- Noise (even with subtle music):Claim: Too loud for residents Fact: Pickleball even with subtle music = 60-65 dB at homes. Playground next to the same homes = 70-80 dB screaming daily. Tennis same homes, same hours 7am-9pm = same dB as pickleball. Playground louder and stays open. Tennis is the same and stays open.

Pickleball quietest and only one being closed. Selective enforcement.Fix: $30k - Acoustic sound blanket on 120ft east fence facing homes (Martinez uses this) + acoustic windscreen north + arborvitae buffer. Drops 60-65 dB to 45-50 dB - quieter than normal conversation.

Materials fix, not demolition fix. Aaron Hill public post 9/24 (100 members): "Council did not seriously consider noise-reduction without closing" CLAIM 3 - Sneaking Over After Hours:Claim: 21 police calls juveniles climbing fence.

Fact: 21 calls July 2025-July 2026 = 1.75/month. Only happened AFTER you locked gates March 2025 7am-7pm. You created the problem by locking a free public park.Fix: $5k - 2ft anti-climb fence topper + 2 solar cameras + "Monitored" signs + better gate light. $5k with install and prevailing wage. Stops climbs. Cheaper than 1 police callout per month.

MATH:$20k parking (2-3 spaces) + $30k noise blanket + $5k anti-climb/camera = $55k total. Even if double to $110k with city overruns, you still save $1.59M vs $1.7M for vacant lot with no sewer/water/electric/shade/restrooms.Vice Mayor Pierson you said: "To take away something without a future date seems punitive" - You are right.

These reasons also keep the walking and biking culture active. And they keep the actual pickleball culture that was built here, even before the courts became permanent.

My name is Bill Alahuzos, and I am a Brentwood resident, living in District 1.

I am writing to request that this email be shared with the city council and entered into the public record for the upcoming city council meeting.

Please reconsider any plans to close the Creekside Pickleball courts. These courts serve as a vital hub for our community because they promote physical health, mental well-being, and social connection for residents of all ages.

Closing them would be a significant loss to our city.

Rather than a total closure, the pickleball community as a whole would welcome the opportunity to work with the city on alternative solutions, such as implementing reduced court hours, mandating sound-dampening measures, and/or creating a permit-only parking area during the hours of 7 am-7 pm.

We ask that the Creekside Park pickleball courts remain open while the new courts are being constructed.

We urge the city to hear our voices and come to a fair compromise.

Thank you for your time, as well as ensuring our voices are heard.

Respectfully,

Dear City Council members,
I am writing to ask to please keep the pickle ball courts open.

I understand that some neighbors have concerns and I respect their feelings.

Before making a decision to close the court, could the city clarify whether it surveyed all nearby residents and court users?
It would be helpful to understand how many residents support keeping the courts open and how many have raised concerns.

Is closing the court the must appropriate solution when the complaint may be limited to only a few neighbors? Pickle ball help people to stay active, healthy and connected with the community. A place to exercise and enjoy time together.

I believe we can find a way for players and neighbors to share the community peacefully.

Hopefully there is a way I’m okay even with closing some days and reducing hours to 5Pm.

Thank you for listening to our concerns and considering our request.

Subject: FORMAL NOTICE: Brown Act Violation / Urgent Appeal to Reconsider Creekside Park Pickleball Closure Date: Thursday, September 24, 2026 1:08:44 PM
Attachments: FORMAL NOTICE OF BROWN ACT VIOLATION.pdf
Dear Mayor, Members of the City Council, City Clerk, and City Attorney, Please find attached and incorporated below the Formal Notice of Brown Act Violation and Demand to Cure and Correct regarding the unexpected vote to close the Creekside Park pickleball courts.

While our legal notice addresses the procedural defects of the agenda item, we also want to speak to you directly as members of the community you represent.

Why Creekside Park Matters Beyond the Courts
Before deciding the final fate of a facility that received an approx. $408,719 investment as recently as 2024, we ask every council member to take just two minutes to watch the community video on our website: http://savecreekside.com.

That video captures what numbers on a spreadsheet cannot. It shows the true heart of Brentwood. Creekside Park is a healthy, vibrant community hub that unites people across generations, races, and orientations. On these courts, politics disappear. People of all backgrounds come together to share pure joy, stay active, and escape the heavy stresses of the real world. For many in our city, this is their primary outlet for physical and mental wellbeing.

We Want to Partner with the City
The Brentwood Creekside Pickleball Community does not want to be at odds with our local government—we want to work collaboratively with you. We recognize the city’s desire for thoughtful recreation planning, and our community is eager to partner with the City of Brentwood to enhance, maintain, and support these courts so they remain a point of pride for our city.

We respectfully ask that the City Council honor the legal cure-and-correct process, preserve the physical status quo of the courts, and sit down with us to find a constructive path forward.

Thank you for your time, your public service, and your willingness to listen to the community.

SUBJECT: FORMAL NOTICE OF BROWN ACT VIOLATION, DEMAND TO CURE AND CORRECT, AND DEMAND TO

PRESERVE STATUS QUO PENDING LEGAL REMEDIES
Dear Mayor, Members of the City Council, City Clerk, and City Attorney, This letter serves as formal legal and administrative notice that the action taken by the Brentwood City Council to vote for the permanent closure of the Creekside Park pickleball courts violated the open meeting requirements of the Ralph M. Brown Act (Gov. Code § 54950 et seq.).

Specifically, the City Council took final, binding action on a matter—the complete closure and dismantling of an active public recreational asset—that was not adequately or fairly described on the posted agenda.

I. The Agendized Description Failed to Provide Lawful Notice The agenda for the meeting in question described the item strictly as follows:
"Staff recommends that the City Council (1) receive the annual update on pickleball operations at Creekside Park and (2) provide direction to staff regarding whether staff should continue preliminary planning and conceptual design for a six-court pickleball facility at 2251 Elkins Way, including the preferred development option and potential funding approach, and regarding the long-term use of the existing Creekside Park pickleball courts."
Under the Brown Act (Gov. Code § 54954.2), an agenda must specify the action to be taken and provide the public with clear, fair, and meaningful notice of matters under consideration so that affected citizens can attend and be heard.

The terms "receive the annual update," "provide direction to staff regarding preliminary planning," and a vague reference to "long-term use" do not reasonably notify the public, stakeholders, or users that the Council intended to vote on an immediate or permanent closure of courts that received a substantial approx. $408,719 municipal capital investment as recently as 2024.

Furthermore, the Parks and Recreation recommendation text explicitly stated under the Agenda of September 21, 2026 on Page 364: "staff requests City Council direction on the long-term role of the Creekside Park pickleball courts if a new facility is ultimately approved and becomes operational." This framing left the public under the clear and justified assumption that an immediate or premature closure of the existing courts was never under discussion, making the subsequent vote an impermissible surprise action that blindsided the community and suppressed public participation.

II. Demand to Cure and Correct
Pursuant to Government Code Section 54960.1, the City of Brentwood is hereby formally requested to cure and correct this illegal action.

To remedy this violation without the necessity of formal legal proceedings, the City Council must:

1. Nullify and void the vote taken regarding the closure of the Creekside Park pickleball courts at the September 21, 2026, meeting due to defective agenda noticing.

2. Re-calendar the item for a future properly noticed meeting under a clear, unambiguous agenda title explicitly stating: "Discussion and Potential Action Regarding the Permanent Closure of the Creekside Park Pickleball Courts."

3. Allow full, open public testimony on the explicit question of closure, taking into proper account the community impact, regional growth trends, and the 2024 capital investment.

III. Demand to Preserve Status Quo and Warning of Injunction Please be advised that pursuant to California Government Code Section 54960(a), any interested person may commence an action by mandamus, injunction, or declaratory relief to stop or prevent violations or threatened violations of the Brown Act.

We hereby demand that the City of Brentwood, its departments, contractors, and agents maintain the absolute status quo at Creekside Park. The City must refrain from taking any physical action, including dismantling nets, modifying fencing, locking gates, posting closure notices, or initiating any demolition or alteration of the pickleball courts.

If the City proceeds to alter, close down physically, or destroy the court infrastructure while this Brown Act violation is pending resolution—or prior to the expiration of the statutory cure period—we will immediately seek an emergency judicial injunction in the Contra Costa County Superior Court to halt such actions and preserve the asset, while seeking recovery of legal costs and attorney's fees as authorized by law.

We look forward to your prompt response confirming receipt of this notice, acknowledging the preservation of the status quo, and outlining the City's intended corrective course of action within the statutory 30-day window.

Good afternoon Mayor, Council Members, and City Clerk,
I emailed the city clerk last week requesting to have Pickleball on the agenda for this evening’s meeting. I have not received a replyand it looks like it’s currently not on the agenda for this evening‘s meeting. I would like someone to reply and tell me how to get on the agenda for tonight. My city council member is Javita. It’s my understanding that emails sent to [email protected] by 3:00 p.m. on meeting day are distributed to the Council before the meeting, posted for public inspection, and summarized in the minutes.

I respectfully ask the Council to pause any action to dismantle or convert the Creekside pickleball courts until the Council has fully reviewed the original purpose of the project, the use of DIF funds, the public investment already made, and all reasonable alternatives have been researched.

I understand that residents have legitimate concerns about noise, and I believe those concerns deserve an objective, professional evaluation. At the same time, pickleball provides important physical, mental, and social benefits to our community.

I am not asking the Council to disregard residents’ concerns. I am asking that we make a fully informed decision that fairly considers everyone affected and protects the public’s investment.

Will the Council please consider keeping the courts open while the City gathers the necessary information and evaluates alternatives before taking irreversible action?
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hello, I am writing to you to support our pickle ball community here in Brentwood. Pickleball is good for me and for my mental health and especially my weight. I started in January of this year and have lost 30lbs. I’m in a better mood daily and have made new life long friends. I find myself drinking less beer because of pickleball. The pickleball community I found to be a no judgement zone. Rich or poor, old and young come together to play and enjoy each other’s games and company. Creek Side park serves as the perfect atmosphere because of the trees and green grass.

Thank you for your time and service. Much respect and Aloha to you and your staff.

Dear City Clerk,
My name is Don Quan and I live at Trilogy at The Vineyards in Council District 3.

At the October 13th City Council meeting, I would like to request the Brentwood City Council to keep the Creekside Pickleball Courts open to the community.

These courts serve as a vital location for our community promoting physical health, social connection and recreation. Taxpayers dollars should be used responsibly and every effort should be made to preserve facilities that serve the public. The city has already invested over $400, 000 of taxpayer’s money in these courts.

I urge the City Council to explore all reasonable alternatives to closure and commit to keeping these courts accessible to the community. Our community deserves transparency about the decisions being considered, the funds already spent, and the options available to keep this facility operating.

I kindly request that the pickleball discussion be agendized for the next available City Council session.

Please forward this email to the Mayor and City Council members for consideration.

Thank you for your attention and helping ensure this issue receives serious consideration.

Dear council,
Please reconsider the closing of the Creekside pickleball courts. It provides a place where young and old can play and move their bodies. It provides a sense of community and it would be such a waste of money to destroy something that the public values so much. I think we can come up with a suitable compromise that keeps the courts open and yet address the concerns of a small minority of neighbors. A recent poll was taken from brentwood residents concerning the closing of the courts and overwhelmingly supported to keep them open. Let's exhaust every option before we do something so final. The community has spoken to keep them open until a suitable replacement has been established. The proposed temp courts have no lights which further limits the amount of play due to daylight savings time. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Hi, my name is Herman Navarrete. I’ve been a Brentwood resident for the past 27 years.

I’m requesting that this message is entered into the public record for the upcoming city council meeting.

Please do not close our pickleball courts at Creekside. Young and old people depend on the courts being open to stay physically and mentally healthy. I have people come to me and tell me that playing at Creekside has changed their lives in a positive way. People have told me that they have lost from 20 to 30 pounds. One person told me that focusing on pickleball helped him stop drinking alcohol. One person even shared with me that his suicidal inclinations had disappeared.

Please help us out and keep Creekside courts open.

Hello,
For city council, and public record, please.

Creekside pickleball has saved my life.

With the welcoming people, and Dave’s patience to teach me how to play, I have now quit drinking! The sport gives motivation to be at the courts after work, and not going to the bar. In addition, i have subloquently lost 13 lbs. I feel better, and have new goals.

If Creekside closes, and Brentwood not having any other safe courts, I'm not sure of my next direction.

The courts have been open for some years, formally on the old basketball court, and there was never any complaints? Then, thankfully, the city saw the need for public courts in their city, and made the investment! Now, the city has a successful community park, and you're thinking of closing it?? Im confused, wasn't this the goal, to have a park utilized to the fullest extent? Bravo on the City's efforts and decisions, it worked!! But now? This feels like a black-eye on the city.

My suggestion: try and save the park at a lower cost, rather then spend the money to build brand new courts. I recently traveled to Denver and played at one of their half dozen courts. It is right in the middle of a nice neighborhood, and their secret is "Sound proof padding" on 3/4 of the courts. They are over an inch thick, and send the sound up, not out. It works.

Good luck on your decision, and I will stay hopeful.

Thank You

To our City Council,
I am grateful to live in a democracy. I believe you all to be reasonable people with a sincere desire to serve the community. I also believe you care a lot about the future of Brentwood and the history of Brentwood. I am in support of the Creekside pickleball courts remaining open, but I am also in support of the right of others to disagree. Discussion and compromise should happen in our city.

My family moved to Brentwood in May 2019. At that time, there was already a local group of pickleball players regularly using the basketball court area for pickleball. We used portable nets that were set up and cleaned up each time. We intentionally bought our home near the park for access to recreation, including wholesome activities like pickleball. My family of six have spent YEARS playing pickleball at the Creekside location (before the permanent courts were built), with full knowledge of the city and of the neighbors.

I am very bothered by neighbors who make claims that pickleball noise and traffic suddenly appeared when the courts were built. It is false that pickleball only began at that location when the courts were opened in 2024. I believe those who made decisions regarding using city money to build permanent courts at this specific location were acting in good faith.

The concerns of neighbors are valid. I know they have expressed many concerns. But there are reasonable ways to address every complaint that I have heard from them.

There are a great number of concerns for the city that you deal with. I suppose pickleball seems like a minor issue. I hope you are getting some sense of how many people care about these courts and the community of players. I do not know how curious you have been about learning all sides of the issues surrounding these specific courts. I ask that you please not continue with the decision to permanently close the courts until you have learned enough to defend whatever vote you make. I think it is fair to expect that you more fully explain your position and your vote to the people of Brentwood.

Whenever I have written to the city council in the past, I have not received acknowledgement of receipt of my messages. I sincerely hope this message is read and considered.

Thank you,

Subject: Request to provide Quality Temporary courts or Reconsider the Closure of the Creekside Pickleball Courts Date: Tuesday, October 13, 2026 10:21:19 AM
Respected
The Honorable Susannah Meyer, Mayor, City of Brentwood.

I am writing as a Brentwood resident and regular user of the Creekside pickleball courts to respectfully ask the City to provide Quality Temporary courts or reconsider their closure. These courts are far more than a place to play a game. They are one of the few spaces in our city where neighbors of every age and background meet as equals.

Community: On any given day, the courts are full of people who might otherwise never cross paths. Friendships formed there carry over into neighbors checking on one another, organizing events, and welcoming newcomers. Spaces like this are hard to build and easy to lose.

Diversity: Pickleball is easy to learn and inexpensive to play, so it draws people of all ages, incomes, cultures, and abilities. Creekside reflects the full diversity of Brentwood, and that kind of inclusive gathering place is rare.

Seniors' well-being: For many older residents, these courts are a source of regular exercise, social connection, and purpose. Staying active and socially engaged supports physical health, balance, and mental sharpness, and it helps reduce isolation and loneliness. Losing the courts would take away a routine that many seniors depend on.

Connecting generations: Creekside is where grandparents play alongside their grandchildren, and where teenagers and retirees laugh over the same rally. These are moments that strengthen families and give young people positive connections with older generations.

For these reasons, I request the city to keep Creekside open or provide alternatives that preserve it.

If the closure moves forward, I request that the City make the temporary courts a safe and high-quality replacement. At a minimum, I request:

1. Proper sports surfacing: A cushioned, sport-rated court coating that is easier on feet, knees, and joints and reduces slip and fall risk, especially for older players.

2. Wind barriers: Windscreens around the courts so that play is not constantly disrupted.

3. Court-to-court fencing: Dividers between courts to keep stray balls from interrupting neighboring games and to improve safety.

These improvements would help keep our community active and connected during the transition.

Thank you for your time and your service to Brentwood.

Respectfully,
Karthik

Pickle Ball Letter Katelynn Dickey.pdf
Hello,
Please find my attached letter to support the community pickleball court located at Creekside Park.

Sincerely,
Date: October 11, 2026
To: Brentwood City Council and Mayor Susannah Meyer
Subject: Save the Creekside Pickleball Courts for Brentwood Families Dear Mayor Meyer and Members of the City Council,
My name is Katelynn Mann, and I live at here in Brentwood. As a 35-year-old mom with a 4-year-old child, I am writing to ask you to reconsider the closure of the pickleball courts at Creekside Park and look for a compromise instead.

I completely understand that the nearby homeowners are frustrated by the noise and traffic, and their peace of mind matters. However, entirely shutting down the courts takes away a beautiful, active space from hundreds of families like mine who rely on public parks to keep our kids healthy and engaged.

Right now, I am just starting to teach my 4-year-old how to play pickleball. It is one of the very few sports that is accessible enough for a toddler to try, while still being a game that grandparents can play alongside them. When we go to the courts, my child gets to see a wonderful, vibrant reflection of our town. The courts are a true multicultural hub where people of all different ages, backgrounds, and ethnic groups interact positively. It is exactly the kind of inclusive environment I want my child to grow up in.

If the city shuts these courts down completely, it robs the community of an essential, healthy outlet. I strongly urge the Council to invest in noise-dampening acoustic fences, enforce equipment rules, or adjust the hours so neighbors get relief without families losing this vital park space.

Please don't close the door on the hundreds of residents—and the next generation of young players—who love this community space.

Thank you for your time and for considering the families of Brentwood.

Sincerely,
Katelynn Mann

Subject: CREEKSIDE PICKLEBALL COURTS
Date: Saturday, October 10, 2026 5:39:09 PM
Dear City Clerk,
Ahead of the upcoming City Council meeting, I am calling on the City Council to take immediate action to keep the Creekside Park pickleball courts open. Closing these courts is not an acceptable solution for a community that values public recreation, health, and quality of life.

The City has already committed taxpayer dollars to these courts. Closing them would disregard the public investment already made and deny residents continued access to a recreational facility intended to serve the community.

Taxpayers deserve accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship of their money—not the loss of a valued public amenity without a thorough examination of alternatives.

I urge the City Council to reject closure, direct staff to pursue workable solutions, and make every reasonable effort to keep these courts open and accessible to the public. Residents who use and support this facility deserve to have their voices heard and their concerns taken seriously before any decision is made.

Please ensure this request is forwarded to the Mayor and all City Council members before the meeting.

Keeping Creekside Park’s pickleball courts open should be the priority. I am asking the Council to take meaningful action to protect this public investment and preserve this important community resource.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
Kelly Reddell

Subject: Please Keep Creekside Park Pickleball Courts Open Until Replacement Courts Are Ready Date: Saturday, October 10, 2026 6:53:07 PM
Dear City Clerk,
Please forward this email to the Mayor and all City Council members before the upcoming meeting and include it in the public record.

I am writing to urge the City of Brentwood to reconsider closing the Creekside Park pickleball courts before the new courts at Sunset Park are completed and ready for use.

I understand that nearby residents have legitimate concerns about noise, and I support working toward a reasonable compromise. Reduced playing hours, sound-dampening measures, and other practical solutions should be considered before taking away an established recreational facility.

My biggest concern is player safety. The proposed temporary alternative of playing on uneven asphalt in a parking lot is not equivalent to a properly constructed pickleball court. Uneven surfaces can increase the risk of trips, falls, and injuries, particularly during the quick lateral movements that are part of the game. Players should not have to choose between giving up their recreation and playing on a potentially unsafe surface.

Creekside also provides exercise, friendships, and a sense of community for people of different ages and backgrounds. Closing it prematurely would disrupt those benefits and leave regular players without a comparable place to play.

I respectfully ask the Council to keep Creekside’s courts open until the replacement courts are fully completed and available, while working with residents and players on reasonable noise mitigation in the meantime. I also ask the City to explain the timeline and safety standards for any proposed temporary facilities.

Thank you for your consideration and for including this message in the public record.

Sincerely,
Kevin Musto

Subject: Public Records for upcoming city meeting
Date: Saturday, October 10, 2026 8:52:37 PM
I am writing to request at this email be shared with the city council and entered into the public record for the upcoming city council meeting.

To ensure transparent community dialogue and proper evaluation, we urge the City Council to agendize this vital pickleball discussion for the upcoming meeting.

I’m writing to you after the councils vote to close the Creekside pickleball courts, and honestly, I’m heartbroken and disappointed.

For me personally, Creekside has meant much more than pickleball. I struggled with depression and loneliness, and working from home made that sense of isolation even harder. Finding this pickleball community gave me something I didn’t realize I was missing; a place to show up, connect with people, laugh, be active, and feel like I belonged.

I know I’m not the only person who has found that sense of belonging at Creekside. More than 350 active pickleball members and their families use these courts as a place to stay active, connect with others, and build community. For many of us, this isn’t just about playing pickleball. It’s about our mental health, physical health, friendships, and having a place where we belong.

I’ve personally seen 3 year olds and 90 year olds playing. I have played pickelball in several different communities and Brentwood’s Creekside Park has been the most welcoming, positive, respectful, uplifting community I have experienced. I’ve watched middle and high school students play with people 50 years older than them, learning from one another, encouraging each other, and building relationships across generations.

What other activity creates that kind of natural mentoring and connection? When the new courts first opened, I saw younger players sometimes swear and stick only with their own age groups. But as the pickleball community grew, something incredible happened: we became a community. People of different ages, backgrounds, and skill levels started mixing, teaching one another, and looking out for each other. That is what I believe communities are supposed to do.

The courts were only built a few years ago, at a cost of $480,000 to the city. Given that significant public investment, I believe it is important to make sure every possible solution has been explored before deciding to permanently close them.

It doesn’t seem fiscally responsible to make that decision without first working directly with the community that uses the courts, fully understanding the concerns, and seeing firsthand what this community has become.

When the new courts first opened, I saw younger players sometimes swear and stick mostly with their own age groups. But as the pickleball community grew, something incredible happened: we created a culture of respect. Because these are family friendly courts, players learned that swearing isn’t part of our culture, and the youth have grown to understand, respect, and uphold that expectation.

People of different ages, backgrounds, and skill levels began mixing, teaching one another, and looking out for each other. That is what I believe a community is supposed to do: set positive expectations, hold each other accountable, and grow together.

That’s why I was shocked when I reviewed the meeting notes and saw our community characterized as having police called to the Creekside courts 22 times. We followed up directly with the police department, and we were told there are ZERO police reports on file for the Creekside courts. If a claim like that is going to be made in a public meeting, there needs to be documentation to support it.

Statements made in a public meeting have consequences. They shape how our community is perceived and can create a false narrative about the very people who have worked hard to build a positive, family friendly environment. Please do your due diligence and have the documentation to support claims before presenting them as fact. Our community deserves accuracy, transparency, and fairness.

Before walking away from a $480,000 investment and a community of more than 350 active members, please give us the opportunity to be part of finding a solution.

I understand that there are concerns that need to be addressed. But what is difficult to accept is that this community is being taken away without first giving us an opportunity to be part of the solution.

Other cities have worked with their pickleball communities to address concerns before permanently closing courts. I am asking Brentwood to do the same.

Before a permanent decision is made, could we:

Conduct an objective noise study/test at the courts?
Give the pickleball community an opportunity to address the findings? Explore noise-reduction materials or barriers around the courts? Allow the community to raise funds to help pay for noise mitigation if needed?
Look at other solutions that have worked in communities facing similar concerns?
Give us time to work collaboratively with the city, residents, and court users to find a solution?
Please don’t make a permanent decision before you’ve given the community a genuine opportunity to be heard and before you’ve explored reasonable solutions.

Come see us. Talk to us. Test the noise. Let us raise money for mitigation if that’s what it takes. Work with us.

You invested $480,000 in these courts. Let’s make sure that investment serves the Brentwood community rather than becoming a facility we simply walk away from.

I have always seen Brentwood as a community that wants to build community.

Not break it apart. Please give us the opportunity to prove that we can find a solution together.

Please reconsider closing the Creekside courts without first allowing the people who use them and care about them to help find a solution. We aren’t asking you to ignore the concerns. We’re asking you to let us help solve them.

Give this community a chance to do what we’ve already proven we can do:
come together, listen, and find a way forward. We are ready to be a part of a safe solution.

Dear City council,
Obviously pickleball has changed many of our lives and positive ways.

I live in Antioch and go out to Creekside as it has the only outdoor pickleball courts in Bay point, Pittsburg, Antioch and Brentwood.

It is a great sport which has helped people lower their blood pressure, cholesterol and overall body fat health.

It also provides confidence, skill and allows us to meet new friends.

There are a few songs created called "Brentwood Pickleball at Creekside".

Just like most sports it creates good morale and teamwork. I'm guessing the money used to create Creekside pickleball courts came from the taxpayers and that's us. Which is now money wasted. Please reconsider closing Creekside pickleball courts at least until the new ones are created next year or whenever they'll be ready.

Thank You,
Laura Martinez

Subject: Creekside Pickleball Court/Letter address to the Mayor Date: Sunday, October 11, 2026 12:27:23 PM
Dear City Clerk,
I am writing with a heavy heart ahead of the upcoming city council meeting. I respectfully request that this letter be shared with the Mayor and City Council members, and formally entered into the public record as an urgent plea to reconsider the complete closure of the Creekside Park pickleball courts.

While I deeply empathize with the neighbors and fully acknowledge their right to peace and quiet, completely dismantling the Creekside courts feels like a devastating blow to our community. For many of us—especially our seniors, families, and young people—these courts are the beating heart of our neighborhood. It is where we find connection, combat isolation, and maintain our physical health. This is not just about a sport; it is about a vibrant, inclusive sanctuary that brings people together in an increasingly disconnected world. To lock the gates on October 26th will leave a profound void in our daily lives.

Beyond the emotional toll, we must look at the immense fiscal reality. The city has already invested over $400,000 of taxpayer money into building and maintaining these specific courts. Walking away from this investment feels like a painful waste of public funds, especially when a new facility will cost an additional $1.7 million or more.

The community deserves a chance to save this investment. Rather than a total shutdown, I urge the Council to explore an empathetic compromise that respects the neighbors without punishing the public. Please consider:

Acoustic sound-dampening fencing to drastically reduce the decibel levels.

Restricted, strictly enforced hours (e.g., 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM) to protect the peace of nearby homes. No Sundays.

Please do not give up on Creekside Pickleball Court. I urge you to vote for a solution that preserves both the neighborhood's peace and this invaluable community treasure.

Thank you for your time, your empathy, and your willingness to listen to the hearts of the residents you serve.

Sincerely,
Leah Pepito

Subject: Public comment for Agenda item F.2 - downtown specific plan Date: Monday, October 12, 2026 4:08:35 PM
Dear Mayor and Members of the Brentwood City Council,
I am writing as a Brentwood resident from District 4 to express my support for updating the Downtown Specific Plan that will allow licensed tattoo studios within the downtown district.

Brentwood has worked hard to create a vibrant downtown. Today's tattoo studios are clean, licensed, appointment-based businesses that can bring additional visitors to downtown, benefiting nearby restaurants, coffee shops, and retailers.

I respectfully encourage the Council to support this proposed language change. I believe it is a positive step forward that aligns with Brentwood's vision and we really need to move on to other city items already.

Thank you for your time and your service to our community.

Sincerely,

Subject: Please Keep the Creekside Park Pickleball Courts Open Date: Monday, October 12, 2026 7:49:07 AM
Dear Brentwood City Council Members,
My name is Lynh Rangel, Brentwood resident in District 3. I am writing on behalf of myself and my family to respectfully ask the City of Brentwood to reconsider any plans to close the Creekside Park pickleball courts.

I started playing pickleball in May, and since then, I have been playing consistently five days a week. Pickleball has quickly become an important part of my life, helping me stay physically active, improve my health, support my mental well-being, and build meaningful friendships within our community.

Closing these courts would be a significant loss to my health and overall well-being, as well as to the many community members who rely on these courts for regular exercise, stress relief, and social connection. Pickleball brings people of different ages and backgrounds together, creating a welcoming community where people can stay active, make friends, and improve their quality of life.

I understand that the City must consider the needs of nearby residents and address concerns such as noise. However, I sincerely hope the City will explore reasonable compromises, such as adjusted playing hours or sounddampening measures, rather than permanently closing a valuable recreational resource.

I also ask that the Creekside Park pickleball courts remain open while the new courts are being constructed so that our community does not lose access to a place that has become such an important part of our daily lives.

Please consider the positive impact these courts have on our physical health, mental wellness, and community spirit. For me personally, pickleball has become a consistent and meaningful part of my healthy lifestyle, and losing access to these courts would be truly disappointing and detrimental to my well-being.

I respectfully urge the City Council to listen to the voices of pickleball players and community members and work toward a fair solution that allows everyone to enjoy the park.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and commitment to the health and well-being of the Brentwood community.

Sincerely,
Lynh Rangel and Family

Subject: Public Comment for 10/13 Meeting - Opposition to Creekside Park Pickleball Closure Date: Monday, October 12, 2026 3:47:45 PM
Dear Mayor and Members of the City Council,
RE: Public Comment for 10/13 Meeting - Opposition to Creekside Park Pickleball Closure
I am writing to express my profound disappointment regarding the Council's recent unexpected vote to close the Creekside Park pickleball courts, which received a $408,719 municipal capital investment as recently as 2024.

Creekside Park is far more than just a sports facility; it is a vibrant, inclusive community hub that unites residents of all ages, races, and orientations. As captured on our community website (http://savecreekside.com and http://sfbaypickle.com), these courts foster genuine joy, active health, and deep community comradeship, bringing people together while helping them escape the stresses of the real world. Dismantling such a successful and valued asset—especially after the public was led to believe under Agenda Item E.1 that closure was not under discussion—undermines public trust and harms our community.

The Brentwood Creekside Pickleball Community does not want to be at odds with our local government; we want to work collaboratively with you to enhance and support these courts.

I respectfully urge the City Council to place this item back on the calendar, honor the formal request to cure and correct the unnoticed vote, reverse the decision, and work with us to keep the Creekside Park pickleball courts open.

Sincerely,
Mario Aguilar

Statement for City Council Public Record
From: Mary Warner
Please share this statement with the City Council and enter it into the public record for the upcoming meeting.

I respectfully ask the Council to reconsider its plans to close the Creekside Pickleball courts. This decision will significantly affect a large group of people who gather there daily and weekly not only for exercise, but for meaningful social connection.

I recently moved here and didn’t know anyone. When I began playing at Creekside, I quickly grew to love the people I met. At the time, I was struggling with depression and grief after losing my daughter. I felt homesick and negative about most things. By showing up to play, I connected with others who had also lost loved ones, and they helped me find a local group of mothers who meet monthly. My circle of friends has grown, and this community has given me a healthy outlet to socialize, heal, and feel comfortable in my new home. For the first time since moving here, I feel like I belong, and I no longer feel homesick.

Creekside is a wonderful community of diverse, sincere, and genuinely kind people. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Creekside Pickleball community.

I ask that you reconsider the decision to temporarily move us to the parking lot courts and allow us to continue playing at Creekside until the new courts are built. It would be unfortunate to remove courts that were recently funded and constructed, especially when they are so heavily used and appreciated.

In the meantime, we are more than willing to compromise by using sound‑dampening paddles and balls. We are eager to work with the city and appreciate your kind consideration of this matter.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Sincerely, Mary Warner

Subject: Creekside Pickle Ball Court Closure
Date: Monday, October 12, 2026 8:20:09 AM
Dear City Council/Parks and Recreation Board,
I am writing to express my strong concern regarding the proposed closure of the pickleball courts at Creekside. As healthcare workers, my husband and I deeply value the positive impact these courts have on our community's health and well-being.

The Creekside courts uniquely serve a remarkably diverse group of residents. On any given day, you can see people of all ages utilizing the space, from high schoolers and young children to elderly residents, including individuals managing health conditions who actively play and inspire others. Closing this facility would deprive our community of accessible recreation and waste the significant taxpayer funds used to build it.

I urge you to consider the overwhelming physical and mental health benefits these courts provide to the majority of our residents, rather than focusing solely on the complaints of a few.

I strongly request that you keep the Creekside pickleball courts open for the continued wellness of our community.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Melissa Amores

Thank you for taking the time to read this email. Please forward to City Council members as well as the Mayor.

I am asking you to reconsider the closing of the Creekside pickleball courts. The courts are a big part of a lot of people’s lives. Some of the nicest and friendliest members of the city of Brentwood play at these courts. Closing these courts without a comparable place to play is not the right thing to do. I have lived here for over 15 years and I always brag about the town I live in and the people who make the decisions in this town.

By closing these courts, I am having second thoughts about the leaders of our community. Too many people use these courts and too much money was spent on them to just close them because of a few neighbors who don’t like the noise of people enjoying themselves.

I am asking you to place this topic on the upcoming agenda and to meet with some members of the Brentwood Pickleball club to discuss some alternatives to closing these courts.

Thank you again for listening and considering other options to immediate closing of these courts courts.

Pat Reddell.

Subject: Request to Reconsider Closure of the Creekside Pickleball Courts Date: Monday, October 12, 2026 10:08:53 AM
Dear City Council Members,
My name is Paul Zamora, and I am a proud supporter of the Creekside Pickleball Courts. I am writing to respectfully request that the City Council reconsider any plans to close these courts.

Through Creekside, I have had the privilege of meeting many wonderful people, including Dave Smookler, who first introduced me to the game of pickleball. Since then, the Creekside courts have become much more than a place to play. They have become a gathering place where friendships are formed, neighbors connect, and a true sense of community thrives. Players of all ages and backgrounds come together to enjoy healthy recreation, relieve daily stress, and welcome newcomers with open arms.

I would like to personally invite the City Council members and nearby residents to visit the courts and join us for a game. I believe you will quickly experience the camaraderie, friendship, and positive atmosphere that make Creekside such a special place for so many members of our community.

The City invested approximately $500,000 to develop these courts. Rather than abandoning that investment, I encourage the Council to explore practical solutions that address concerns while preserving this valuable community asset. One such solution is the installation of sound-mitigation barriers, which many cities have successfully implemented to reduce pickleball noise impacts while keeping courts open for public use.

Information regarding pickleball sound barriers can be found here:
https://www.google.com/search?q=pickleball+courts+sound+barriers Common sound-reduction solutions include:

Quilted Acoustic Fence Blankets that attach to existing fencing and can significantly reduce noise transmission.

Acoustic Glass Walls that provide substantial sound reduction while maintaining visibility and aesthetics.

Mass-Loaded Vinyl (MLV) Barriers that effectively block sound from traveling into neighboring residential areas.

Acoustic Curtains and Baffles that absorb sound and reduce reverberation.

Studies and real-world implementations have shown that properly designed sound barriers can substantially reduce noise levels, especially when combined with quieter equipment and appropriate operating practices. These solutions offer a reasonable compromise that addresses neighborhood concerns while preserving a recreational facility that serves so many residents.

The Creekside Pickleball Courts are more than just courts. They are a community gathering place that promotes health, wellness, social connection, and inclusion. Closing them would mean losing a valuable resource that brings people together and enhances the quality of life in our city.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and commitment to our community. I respectfully ask that you consider alternative solutions before making a decision to close the Creekside Pickleball Courts.

Sincerely,
Paul Zamora

Subject: Opposition to Closure of Creekside Pickleball Courts – Proposed Compromises Date: Sunday, October 11, 2026 2:22:18 PM
Dear Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council,
I am writing as a resident to formally request that this correspondence be entered into the public record for the upcoming City Council meeting and distributed to all council members.

I strongly urge the City Council to reconsider the planned closure of the Creekside Park pickleball courts. While we respect that a very small number of neighbors have raised concerns, a total closure unfairly penalizes the vast majority of community members who rely on and deeply value this space.

Closing these courts entirely represents an unnecessary and significant loss to our city for several critical reasons:
•Overwhelming Community Benefit vs. Isolated Complaints: The Creekside courts are an incredibly popular, heavily utilized asset that brings joy, fitness, and connection to hundreds of local residents. The broad, positive impact this facility has on the community vastly outweighs the few complaints received. A thriving public space should not be dismantled due to the grievances of a select few, especially when the overwhelming majority of neighbors love and support it.
•The Mitigation Gap: While I appreciate the city's forward-thinking plans to build new courts, closing the existing facilities before the new ones open leaves a massive gap in our community's recreational infrastructure.

We fully acknowledge the challenges regarding court usage, but a total closure is an extreme measure when viable, intermediate solutions exist. The pickleball community is eager to partner with the city on immediate, actionable compromises that address the few complaints without punishing the happy majority:
1A Phased Continuity Plan: Keeping the Creekside courts operational exclusively until construction on the new courts is 100% complete. 2Acoustic Management: Mandating the installation of industry-standard sound-dampening acoustic fencing panels around the perimeter to directly answer noise concerns.
3Strict Operational Restrictions: Implementing reduced court hours (e.g., locking courts after 7:00 PM) to ensure nearby residents enjoy peaceful evenings.

We urge the city to choose collaboration over closure and to support the large, active community that wishes to keep these courts alive. Let us work together on a fair compromise that keeps our community active while respecting the entire neighborhood.

Thank you for your leadership, your time, and your dedication to hearing the voices of your constituents.

Sincerely,
Teofilo Pepito, Jr.

Dear City Clerk,
I am writing as a Brentwood resident to kindly request that this email be shared with the Mayor and City Council members, and considered for discussion during the upcoming City Council meeting.

I respectfully request that the City Council place the Creekside Park pickleball courts on the meeting agenda for open discussion, aiming to explore constructive, collaborative paths to keep the courts open and accessible while long-term park planning takes place.

Pickleball has brought immense positive value to Brentwood, creating a welcoming, active environment where residents of all generations connect, exercise, and build meaningful relationships. Dedicated, high-quality courts are essential for ensuring our community can play safely, stay active, and continue strengthening local neighborhood ties.

I deeply value the City’s ongoing investment in recreational facilities and understand the importance of community harmony. Rather than moving toward closure, I kindly request the Council discuss practical compromises—such as exploring sound mitigation options and effective court management practices—so that we can maintain a safe, quality recreational space that respects both players and neighboring residents.

Thank you very much for your time, consideration, and dedication to our city, and for ensuring this item is brought before the Council for discussion.

Warm Regards

Dear Mayor Meyer and Members of the City Council,
I am writing to you today as a resident of Brentwood and an active participant in our local recreational community to respectfully ask the City Council to reconsider its recent decision to shut down the pickleball courts at Creekside Park. While I understand and respect the noise and crowding concerns raised by nearby homeowners, a permanent or immediate closure eliminates a critical community asset.

The impact of these courts extends far beyond the 160 oƯicial members of Creekside Pickle Ball Club Every week, hundreds of non-member players, working families, seniors, and youth utilize this space to stay active, healthy, and connected. For many residents especially those new to the area this public space has been their primary source of belonging and mental well-being.

Furthermore, pickleball is uniquely beneficial because of how accessible it is to everyone.

Our courts have naturally evolved into a vibrant, multicultural hub that successfully integrates people from all ethnic groups, backgrounds, ages, and skill levels. At a time when city leadership should be fostering social cohesion and civic unity, the Creekside courts stand out as a rare space where diverse community members organically meet, play, and build friendships.

Instead of a total shutdown or forcing a sudden relocation, we ask the City to explore reasonable compromises. We can protect our neighbors' peace while preserving this vital public space by implementing sound-dampening acoustic fencing, introducing quieter sound-reduced paddles/balls, or enforcing stricter limited playing hours.

Creekside Park is a public recreation area designed for the health and vitality of Brentwood's residents. Please work with the pickleball community to find a mitigation strategy that preserves this inclusive space for the hundreds of us who rely on it every day.

Thank you for your time, leadership, and consideration.

Sincerely,
Rick Mann

My name is Scott Behring and I live in Brentwood. The proposed closure of the pickleball courts seems very unreasonable to me on many issues. First and foremost is that these courts have given me a new family of friends that I did not have before. I have lived in Brentwood for 20 years and these courts have opened up a community of friends that I could not have achieved otherwise. It has helped me mentally and physically and given me a new excitement on life. Closing these courts will shatter the sense of a pickleball family that is so important to the pickleball players that play there. Surely their are concessions that can be made to keep these courts open whether it be shorten hours or perhaps sound barriers to help cancel the noise. This pickleball community is very special and to break it up is a crime to the Brentwood Community. Everyone enjoys playing with everyone and I have never met such a wonderful group of people. It saddens me beyond words what you are proposing . Once these courts are closed this sense of family will no longer exist as many will go their own ways wheither it be Discovery Bay , the proposed new courts or a gym. You can not reinvent what is such a great thing that now exists.

Please listen to our words because this is a very special group of people that help bring the Brentwood Community alive and thriving.

Hello,
This is my second email regarding the closure of the local courts. It is deeply disappointing that the city decided to close these courts without providing a viable alternative. Our area also lacks private courts; the closest facilities are in Concord.

The temporary courts in the parking lot are unsafe and pose a significant liability for the city due to their improper setup. I strongly urge you to keep the current courts open until a suitable, permanent alternative site is available, such as near Sunset Athletic Park or the Sand Creek Sports Complex.

Thank you,

Dear Mayor and Members of the Brentwood City Council,
I respectfully request that the city reconsider closing the existing Creekside pickleball courts.

For many of us who play almost every day, pickleball is much more than a sport. It is an essential way to relieve work-related stress, support our mental health, stay physically active, and maintain meaningful social connections.

The temporary courts in the parking lot are not a suitable or safe alternative. Playing on a parking lot surface may increase the risk of slips, falls, and stress on our legs and joints, potentially leading to injuries.

Creekside has built a wonderful community, and losing these courts would significantly affect our physical and mental well-being.

We sincerely ask the city to reconsider the closure and explore alternatives that allow us to continue using the existing courts. These courts are not just a place to play; they are an important part of our daily lives.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Dear City Council Members,
My name is Sugi Harto, a 25-year Brentwood resident in District 3. I am writing to request that this email be shared with the City Council and entered into the public record for the upcoming meeting.

Please reconsider any plans to close the Creekside Park pickleball courts. These courts serve as a vital hub for our community, promoting physical health, mental well-being, and social connection for residents of all ages. Closing them would be a significant loss to our city.

We ask that the Creekside Park pickleball courts remain open while new courts are being constructed. We welcome the opportunity to work with the city on alternative solutions—such as reduced court hours or mandated sound-dampening measures—rather than a total closure.

To foster open collaboration and explore these alternatives, we kindly request that the pickleball discussion be agendized for the next available City Council session. We urge the city to hear our voices and reach a fair compromise.

Thank you for your time and for ensuring our community is heard.

Best regards,

Subject: Closure of Creekside Park Pickleball Courts
Date: Monday, October 12, 2026 11:04:46 PM
Dear City Clerk,
I am requesting the council to take action to remove the closure of the Creekside Park Pickleball Courts.

Since I started playing pickleball at Creekside, it has added and brought so much joy to my daily routine. The pickleball community at Creekside has not only been welcoming, but it has fostered conversations and gained new friendships. It has made a difference in our lives, a wonderful mental escape, and I am not only speaking for myself but for those who I have conversations with that it has reduced their stress and boosts the mood. Its physical activity offered pain relief, reduction of anxiety, experienced feeling of euphoria and overall mental wellness. The game even made non-athletes without experience in any sports become a pickleball enthusiast.

Now to relocate to play to an alternate location without a structured settings like the Creekside Park Pickleball Court is potentially not too inviting and may not be a safe surface area which will reduce the numbers of players the community of Creekside has created and possibly bring physical and mental decline. Our hearts and mind always look forward to playing at Creekside and to play at an alternate location of subpar structures is like amputating an extremity from our body.

I respectfully urge the city council to reconsider the closure of the Creekside Park Pickleball Courts and to understand the players perspectives and the benefits it brings to the community of players by keeping the Creekside Park Pickleball Courts open.

I am also requesting to put the Creekside Pickleball Courts on the Agenda for October 27.

Thank you for your time and ensuring our concerns are heard.

Sincerely,
Tess Sanchez

I'm a Brentwood resident within City Council District 2.

Please share this email with the Mayor and City Council Members before the upcoming City Council meeting and ensure my email is included in the public record.

I ask that the Creekside Park pickleball courts remain open.

These pickleball courts provide interaction between a wide range of Brentwood residents (age, background, and ethnicity).

The present hours are 7:00 am to 7:00 pm; which are customary hours of activities within our community.

Closing these pickleball courts would be a significant step backward for providing recreation for Brentwood residents.

The Creekside Park pickleball courts were converted from an underutilized basketball court in 2024; which was a great economical decision for providing recreational opportunity for Brentwood residents.

Closing these pickleball courts will represent very poor judgement by Brentwood City Council.

Thank you for your time and response.

City of Brentwood, California
Subject: Formal Objection to the Proposed Closure of Creekside Pickleball Courts Dear Mayor and Members of the City Council,
As a 33-year resident of Brentwood, I am writing to formally express my strong objection to the proposed closure of the Creekside Pickleball Courts. I have been part of this community for more than three decades, and I believe the decisions we make about our public parks and recreational facilities should reflect the needs of the residents who live here and make this city what it is today.

Pickleball has become an important part of our community, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds. Creekside is more than just a place to play a sport. It is a gathering place where families, friends, and neighbors stay active, build friendships, and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Removing these courts would take away a valuable community resource that residents rely on today.

I am particularly concerned about the proposal to close Creekside and offer temporary courts on an asphalt parking lot while new facilities are being developed. A timeline of two years or longer is a substantial period to ask residents to go without the established courts they currently enjoy. An asphalt parking lot is not an adequate substitute for properly designed pickleball courts, and residents should not be expected to accept an inferior temporary arrangement when better planning alternatives deserve serious consideration.

Brentwood has a growing demand for pickleball facilities. Restricting playing hours and then proposing to close an existing facility only adds to the problem. Providing a limited number of replacement courts elsewhere may not adequately address the demand or preserve the accessibility and community atmosphere that Creekside provides.

I urge the City Council to reconsider this proposal and explore alternatives that would preserve the Creekside courts while the city develops a long-term plan for additional facilities. I would also encourage the city to consider a larger, purpose-built pickleball complex with proper court surfaces and lighting to accommodate the growing number of players in Brentwood.

If the city is committed to investing in our community, then let us invest in a solution that expands recreational opportunities rather than eliminating existing ones. We should be looking for ways to provide more courts, not forcing residents to lose access to the courts they already have.

After 33 years in Brentwood, I believe our residents deserve thoughtful planning, meaningful public input, and decisions that protect the recreational assets that make our community a great place to live. I respectfully ask each member of the City Council to reconsider the closure of Creekside Pickleball Courts and work toward a solution that keeps these courts available while meeting the city’s future recreational needs.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope you will take the concerns of Brentwood’s pickleball community seriously and make preserving and expanding these facilities a priority.

Subject: Downtown Specific Plan Amendment SPA 25-001
Date: Tuesday, October 13, 2026 2:52:11 PM
Dear Mayor and Members of the City Council,
I am writing in support of lifting the ban on tattoo studios in downtown Brentwood (Downtown Specific Plan Amendment SPA 25-001).

As a member of this community, I believe downtown Brentwood should be a place that welcomes creativity, supports small businesses, and reflects the people who live here. Tattoos are a meaningful form of personal expression and art, and tattoo studios deserve the same opportunity as other businesses to become part of our community.

Modern tattoo studios are professional, safe, and regulated businesses. Allowing them downtown would create more opportunities for local artists, support small business growth, and help make our downtown more welcoming and diverse. Concerns about too many shops can be managed through existing zoning regulations.

I believe it is time to move past this outdated restriction and give tattoo artists and business owners a fair opportunity to be part of downtown Brentwood. I encourage the City Council to lift the ban and support a downtown that reflects the creativity and diversity of our community.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
A resident who supports lifting the ban

I’ve been following Agenda Item, F.2 since January of
2025.

I understand that policy & bylaws have to be in place in order to contribute to our beautiful city of Brentwood. We already have several established restaurants, bars,
boutiques, but what we don’t have is a tattoo studio, but we do have two permanent cosmetic businesses already
operating in our downtown area. Tattoo studios today are considered art, self expression, are no longer considered taboo. Its freedom of speech and freedom of expression for an individual.

There is absolutely no difference between a traditional tattoo and permanent cosmetics. They use the same ink,
they use needles, Whether the ink is darker or lighter, or the needles are smaller...they are still the same process.

As a 30 year Brentwood resident. I've seen so much
growth throughout the years.

I believe it is essential for the City Council to vote Yes in order to help revitalize the downtown area. People from all walks of life enjoy what Brentwood has to offer. Allowing tattoo studios within the downtown area will bring in not only more people, those people will also patronize the
restaurants, boutiques, bars...and that only brings in more revenue for the city of Brentwood.

Make the change that is needed and allow tattoo studios to operate in the downtown area and do away with the ancient ban. Make the change to update Personal Service and
Body Art facilities as an acceptable form of business in the downtown area.

Subject: F2-Public Comment amending Tattooing
Date: Monday, October 12, 2026 7:39:48 PM
Good evening Mayor and Council Members,
I am writing to address the ongoing delays regarding the approval steps for Golden Heart Tattoo Gallery.

As the council is aware, multiple businesses in the area offer similar specialized services without issue. Golden Heart Tattoo Gallery operates with all required licensing, certifications, and an exemplary safety record. Beyond their standard services, they have a long history of investing in Brentwood’s youth. As a former student at Liberty High School, I personally benefited from completing my art academy internship at the shop when it was formerly CalPunk, which taught young artists like myself the responsibilities of running a professional business and learning first hand what it takes to become a tattooer.

Failing to support this reputable, family-friendly business harms our local economy and discourages small business growth in Brentwood. I urge the council to move this item forward without further delay. It has been shared before that this wasn’t the issue, rather an outdated zoning amendment. If this is the case what’s holding the city back if you also agree it’s outrageous and outdated?
Finally, I want to emphasize the importance of professional conduct during these proceedings. It is vital for the community to feel heard and respected when participating in civic meetings. I ask that all council members—specifically Council Member Jovita—maintain a respectful, unbiased, and professional attitude toward constituents, ensuring our local government remains collaborative and welcoming. It is very clear to us residents when unprofessional behaviors and biases come out.

Thank you for your attention to these matters.

Hello,
I am writing to express my strong support for allowing tattoo shops to operate in downtown Brentwood.

As a local resident living within walking distance of the downtown area, my family and I frequently visit and support the local businesses. I believe that excluding body art establishments from this area is unfair and unjustifiably restricts viable businesses from thriving. I see no issue with welcoming these creative establishments into our community.

Thank you for your time and consideration of this matter.

Best regards,
Beth Cox

Dear City Council Members,
I am writing to express my support for having a tattoo studio in our downtown area. I believe a tattoo studio would be a positive addition to our community by bringing in more customers, supporting local business owners, and adding to the variety of businesses available downtown.

Tattoo studios can provide a professional, creative space for artists while giving residents a convenient place to receive these services locally. With proper licensing, health standards, and sanitation practices, a tattoo studio can operate responsibly and contribute positively to the community.

I hope the City Council will consider the benefits of allowing a tattoo studio downtown and supporting opportunities for small businesses to grow.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Cynthia Vazquez

Subject: Downtown Specific Plan Amendment-Tattoo Permitted Use Date: Tuesday, October 13, 2026 9:47:34 AM
Dear Mayor and Members of the City Council,
I am writing you in support that the City Council lift the current zoning restrictions that prohibit tattoo studios from operating in downtown Brentwood (Downtown Specific Plan Amendment (SPA 25-001) – Tattoo Permitted Use). The existing ban is outdated and fails to reflect the reality of modern community standards, artistic expression, and local commerce.

Tattooing has evolved into a widely accepted form of meaningful, personal artwork worn by individuals across all professions and demographics. Modern tattoo studios are professional, safe, and heavily regulated spaces. They are not magnets for misconduct, nor do they negatively impact surrounding retail establishments. Furthermore, concerns regarding an overwhelming influx of shops are unrealistic; commercial zoning restrictions rarely result in an overwhelming influx of a single business type, regulating the density of any specific business type downtown.

Regards,
A citizen who fully supports lifting the ban

My name is Joseph,
I know there are talks of opening a tattoo shop downtown. I think it would be an extreme benefit to have something new other than bars and restaurants. As a tattoo collector and a tattooer. I feel that adding some art to the downtown area would be great. Especially since the majority of the people I know who live here are tattoo and art collectors. The business this shop would bring to other businesses around downtown would be beneficial as well.

When people go get tattooed they will usually go to the restaurants in the area either before or after. Especially if they are from out of town. The artists do have clientele from other cities that travel. Speaking from experience. Despite what certain council memebers say about tattoo shops not bringing business, which is completely false. Again speaking from experience in the tattoo business. Most businesses around a tattoo shop benefit quite a bit. And a big majority of my clientele travel to me from other cities and even other states.

So while they are in downtown they will visit other businesses in the area while they are there. The artists from this shop specifically are respected and well loved by the community.

They are a family just trying to have a successful business.

The amount of time this has taken is ridiculous and unfair to this family.

Thank you

Dear Mayor and City Council Members,
I am writing to express my support for allowing tattoo studios in downtown Brentwood.

Tattoo studios are legitimate, regulated businesses and deserve the same opportunities as other small businesses. They contribute to our local economy, attract customers, and support surrounding businesses.

Decisions about which businesses belong downtown should be based on reasonable regulations, not outdated perceptions of an industry.

What is most frustrating is how long this issue has dragged on. After well over a year, there is no reason for continued delays. Business owners and residents deserve a decision and a clear path forward.

Thank you for your time.

Subject: Public Comment for Agenda Item F.2
Date: Monday, October 12, 2026 9:36:25 PM
I’ve been following Agenda Item, F.2 since January of
2025, as a longtime Brentwood resident seeing so much
growth in our city, we need to ensure that the city moves forward with diversity in mind. In order to move with the times, we need to continue to find ways to make
Brentwood an all inclusive city. One way to do this is to approve the Downtown Specific Plan and update the
Personal Services and Body Art under one umbrella
and allow tattoo studios in the downtown area.

Thank You,
Richard Perez

To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express my strong support for allowing tattoo and body art studios to operate in downtown Brentwood.

As a resident/community member, I believe a modern, professionally run tattoo studio brings clean, creative energy and positive foot traffic to our downtown core. Patrons visiting these establishments naturally frequent neighboring downtown restaurants, coffee shops, and retail stores before and after their appointments.

Furthermore, treating body art with a fair administrative licensing process aligns downtown Brentwood with contemporary standards of personal care businesses—much like salons and day spas—while supporting local small business owners.

Thank you,
Rosalee Perez

I support this business. They are amazing people and I think a tatoo shop in downtown Brentwood would bring in more business for everyone around there.
