Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.
Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? Having spent almost my entire life as a Burbank resident I'm keenly aware of the challenges the City is facing. As I reach retirement age I have more time to give back to the community. As most of you know I'm strongly opinionated of the state of the City and I'm one who tries to offer solutions to issues not just complaints. I feel I could bring my experiences in life and living in Burbank to help mold the future of the Cities Charter with the next generation of Burbankers in mind. I remember the last Charter Review and how exciting it was to watch fellow neighbors work so hard to craft a Charter that represents the future of the City. I would bring this same enthusiasm to the process and be a new face with new ideas to the process. Please consider not going with the same group of city insiders that populate most of the more important boards and commissions and bring in fresh voices and ideas to this next Review Committee. .

Charter Review Committee
Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.
I have served on the IOB for 2.5 years, and I am currently the chair. I am a non-profit consultant and have served on non-profit boards. In this capacity, I have authored, updated, and reviewed many sets of by- laws. Looking at the city charter, the structure is similar to bylaws, and I believe my background will be beneficial to the process. I also have experience in non-profit budgeting, funding, and oversight. My leadership style is collaborative and working towards win-win as much as is possible.
In my work in non
profits, strategic thinking requires big picture planning, consistently moving towards the goals and mission of the organization, and managing the many projects and people involved. All of this has to be done while considering the viewpoints, experience, and expertise of the stakeholders, and making sure that the finances and investments are done in the best interest of the organization. My main skill set is to be able to take all of this data and information, organize it, and see a path through it. I help non profits achieve efficient, well run, and focussed missions, as well as help them set their goals and make a plan to achieve them.
What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? My goals in serving on this committee would be to work with the other committee members and city staff to thoroughly look at the city charter. Is the current charter appropriate for our growing population and economy, does it allow for appropriate representation in our government for our residents, is there any ambiguous or unclear language, and are there any occasions where the charter currently inhibits our city leaders to address future challenges? I understand that this committee is to determine if the charter needs an update. The goal of this first run through is to see if there are places in the charter that would benefit from a concerted study and discussion.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I want to bring the perspectives of the newest generation of voters to the table. I feel that Gen-Z is severely underrepresented, especially as we will eventually become the largest age block of voters in the United States. Additionally, I want to see what can be done to simplify, streamline, and make more accessible the workings of the city government, such that every resident can easily understand and participate in the process without being saddled with the undue burdens of self-educating in the minutia of every issue. Government manuals should be more all-encompassing, easier to find, and subsequently comprehend. Such a policy must be at the core of our city's design.

Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.
Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I have always been an active voter since I turned 18 and have had pride in everything I voted for.
However, as important as voting in federal elections is, I never felt I was making a true change. My interest in local government is relatively new but I feel this is were I can make the most impact for myself, my friends and family, and my community. It would be an honor to serve the city that I grew up in and returned to. I believe this would be a great introduction to local government and I have confidence in myself that I will succeed.
